Tips & Tricks The satisfaction of being able to make music
Does anyone feel a sense of accomplishment simply being able to make music they like on their DAW?
I remember 4 years ago I thought it would be SO COOL to know how to produce my favourite genre. However, it literally seemed impossible. And then when I finally gave it a try I couldn't believe how difficult it was.
Like many producers starting off, I would constantly ask myself: "why doesn't my music sound as good as ____"
Over the years, you learn bit by bit to a point where you are happy with your stuff, regardless of whether you are famous or not.
It's a lovely feeling of personal contentment that producing has given me.
For anyone still trying to learn to produce/use Logic here are some things I wish I knew:
1) Using a reference track will save you so many hours of painstaking trial and error. I was making the dumbest mixing mistakes for years because I didn't use reference tracks.
2) Study the arrangements of the music you are trying to make. It's easy to think your song sucks but it's just that the structure of the track is off.
3) Learning basic EQ/Mixing will save you a lot of headaches.
4) Sound selection matters a lot. Don't settle for a sound you think is "off"
