If I’ve got that rebound effect going on I’m just gonna go make myself puke, pound some pedialyte, take some ibuprofen, and pass out on the floor by the shitter. Otherwise the next days gonna be ruined lol.

Hmm. I’m a fan of sideways on the bed, head in trashcan

It’s dangerous to take ibuprofen while or after drinking

Ibuprofen is significantly safer than acetaminophen in combination with alcohol because it targets the kidneys instead of the liver.

Don't start with "it's actually perfectly safe", essentially medical advice, if you're unconfident enough to say "correct me if I'm wrong" lol. Yes you are wrong. Ibuprofen and alcohol puts you at risk of stomach ulcers and other stomach/intestinal distress as well as kidney damage, and it will warn you of this on any bottle of ibuprofen. And Acetaminophen is not an NSAID. You're correct that acetaminophen more adversely affects the liver, though.

Not saying it's deadly or even that I've never done it but "perfectly safe" is a little bold

You be what now?

Acetaminophen is much worse but there are still issues with ibuprofen. It can cause stomach ulcers and other issues.

Another small bit of info, acetaminophen isn't an NSAID! For those who can't take NSAIDs (like myself), tylenol is the only safe painkiller pill that's readily available. NSAIDs are really rough on the linings of your digestive system iirc, so if you're at a risk for bleeding it's not wise to take them, I'd think alcohol only makes that risk worse.

It has to do with metabolites. Your body breaks stuff down by making small changes to the molecules using enzymes. There's usually a few steps in this process. The molecule has several small changes applied to it until it's turned into something you can either use, or pass through into your waste.

These consecutive small changes are called metabolic pathways.

Well, sometimes the enzymes that are used in these reactions get saturated. That means they're all currently busy turning one substance into another. Alcohol is really good at saturating it's pathway because it's consumed in large quantities compared to basically any other drug.

Sometimes, when a pathway is saturated, a different pathway can be used to metabolize the same drug. Ultimately, the enzymes are looking for certain structures within a molecule. They're not necessarily positively identifying one whole molecule vs another. So other enzymes come in and make a different change to the molecule, which sends it down an entirely different pathway.

This is what happens between alcohol and acetaminophen. Alcohol comes in and hogs all of one enzyme, which causes acetaminophen to be metabolized by a different enzyme than normal. The product of that metabolism ends up being highly toxic to the liver.

At least, that's how i remember it. It's been a while since I refreshed that information, so it may have become warped or conflated over time.

Another fun fact that's a part of this: Alcohol can be used as an antidote for antifreeze poisoning. The reason antifreeze is poisonous is because of a toxic metabolite that's created as a part of its normal pathway. Alcohol hogs that pathway, and slows down the metabolism of the antifreeze (ethylene glycol) so that the waste product is created more slowly, and thus can be cleared before it builds up.

Acetaminophen isn't an NSAID, it's just a painkiller. But you're right about the kidney/liver thing.

Are you unaware of ibuprofen stomach issues with alcohol?

I had trips off a DMT pen where this type loop has actually happened. Didn’t like those trips cause at times you would actually get stuck in the loop for a good minute or two and would start getting scary.

Glad I'm not the only one lmao. Haven't drank in... idk, five or ten years, I don't really care enough about it but yeah as soon as that happened I was like oh shit

I was about to go out drinking tonight, but now I’m actually reconsidering. That felt way too accurate.
