What are you looking for? A party grinder. The kind of game where you interact with others players with the intention of teaming up, heading out to a mob spawn, and grinding as a group against actually difficult mobs for EXP and gold.
What games have you previously played? Almost all of them, but I'm open to returning.
What id your playstyle? Semi-Casual. I'll never be a top tier player, but I play more than casually.
Any preferred mechanics? Not really. Decent graphics (think early PS2 era as my minimum) and a good grouping system.
Anything specific you'd like to exclude? Emulators, like Project 1999 and SWGEmu, but I'm open to everything else.

What are you looking for?:
MMO that allows unique characters to be played. Variety of useful skills to choose from, weapons to chose from, the ability to combine different weapon/armor/skills in unique ways and still be useful.
Good graphics and animations. Rift was interesting but I can't stand the character animations.
Open world is good to a degree. I do like some focus and guidance, though if the community is developed enough to have it come from them that's fine too.
What games have you previously played?:
- Anarchy Online for awhile, loved it but it's dead now. EVE, great but everything takes so damn long. I like more accessible and engaging combat. Tried Age of Conan, WoW, and Rift but they didn't stick. I felt too shoehorned into specific builds in the first too, and the animations in the last one were really cartoony.
What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?:
- Semi-casual.
Any preferred mechanics?:
- I loved how I could build exactly what I wanted in Anarchy Online, and I loved how I could specialize in what I wanted to in EVE.
Anything specific you want to exclude?:
- Bad animations, cutesy stuff.

try The Secret World - its b2p with 10 day free trial, no-class system (exactly like you described) , present day setting with magic
1
u/JagoKestral Aug 22 '16
You might like Mabinogi for it's open character progression, however you may consider its art style either too cutesy or too dated. What about Runescape? I haven't actually played but from what I do know it does have a similar skill system to those described.

I'm looking for a game with cosmetic character customization, levelling that is more interesting than "kill 5 monsters then go back to ?", contains coordinated PvE group content (like raids), and action combat that always feels like a matter of reacting to a situation, even in raids and dungeons.
The closest I've found is GW2, but it botches the action combat in coordinated content. Raids need DPS rotations rather than situation assessment, fractals are either too easy or require stacking, and dungeons... They're terrible and Arenanet gave up on them. Aside from that, PSO2 and Dragon's Dogma Online have my interest and look very promising, but those aren't coming to the west any time soon so I'll need alternatives.

u/AboveArcadia Aug 23 '16
TERA has some good action combat, which you might be looking for. Skill goes farther than gear (by far). Leveling in Tera is basically your standard kill X quests, however you can reach cap in less than 12 hours if you solo low level dungeons (might need to be a more veteran mmo player/familiar with action combat for that to work).
Gear grind endgame isn't too bad, even casual players can reach BiS in a short amount of time. Like I said though, skill matters much more than gear in Tera.
Edit: Didn't see the other comment that mentioned Tera. As far as "Tera's questing system is what kills the game for me" goes, do you mean endgame, or leveling? Because they really dumbed down the leveling, to the point where skilled players can reach cap in under 4 hours (there are videos), so it's a very minor part of your experience.
1
Aug 23 '16
It's the levelling. Even if it's 4 hours, it's still 4 hours of gameplay I won't enjoy. Even Wildstar streamlined their quests, but I couldn't get into it anyway.
I've only managed to reach max level in FF14 because of its story and controller support, ESO because it's quests were presented more like adventures (though it did feel like a bit of a slog near the end), GW2 because it had a personal story and some pretty memorable events, and Destiny because I don't know. I absolutely can not do ! And ? levelling.
1
u/AboveArcadia Aug 23 '16
Well you don't have to do quests to level in Tera, you can simply run the low level dungeons to max (actually the quickest way). I will argue that things really pick up endgame, where there is actual challenging content (You can't just get the best gear and expect to clear the hardest dungeons until you know how to play your class) that rewards you for being skilled.
1
u/JagoKestral Aug 22 '16
Give DCUO a try. Cosmetics can be swapped in an out at any time without changing gear (Once you equip a piece of gear you unlock its appearance to be used freely), it has decent action combat, and the group content is pretty fun.
1
Aug 22 '16
The combat isn't really popping out for me. It might be 'decent' but decent isn't dodging attacks. I actually found a combat trailer officially done and it isn't very flattering.
Do you have any other suggestions?
1
u/JagoKestral Aug 22 '16
Well, combat wise in my opinion the best game for action is Tera, hands down, however that games doesn't feature the same level of customization- not even close, really.
One thing I forgot to mention is that "questing" in DCUO is done in mission that are give to you one after another. You'll never have quest inflation, and each group of missions is its own little story in the DC Universe. Probably my second all time favorite questing system.
1
Aug 22 '16
Tera's questing system is what kills the game for me. When GW2 starts off with fighting off a centaur invasion or ESO starts with a prison break from hell, starting a game with "kill 5 deer looking things" just doesn't cut it. Good to hear DCUO doesn't have that problem, but I know if I can't get into the combat, I won't be able to stick to the game.

u/BustersRhyme Aug 22 '16
What are you looking for?: MMO (can be f2p,b2p or p2p)
What games have you previously played?: Runescape(2000-2008), Vindictus, overwatch, league of legends, a few fps games
What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: semi-casual - borderline hardcore
Any preferred mechanics?: not really, maybe something grindy or clickable - something i can alt tab and not have a problem (like click a monster to kill, then alt tab) Something i can get my mind lost in for a hours to forget about IRL, with a decent or high or massive player base
Anything specific you want to exclude?: No not really
1
u/JagoKestral Aug 22 '16
Consider EvE Online. Almost right out of the gate you can start mining which is very mindless and in some ways relaxing. You'll make decent money doing it, and it's very simple, you can literally alt tab out and watch a video or something then tab back in every once in a while to check how things are going.
1
u/BustersRhyme Aug 22 '16
I really appreciate your suggestion and response to my post. If you don't mind I'd appreciate it if I could just pry a little more information from you.
For EvE, when you say make decent money, that's in-game currency right not real life? (I ask newb question because I remember reading about the whole event that went down that people were losing lots of IRL$ on)
Is there an endgame? Once you mine and make money what do you do with it?
2
u/JagoKestral Aug 23 '16
When I say money I mean ISK, the in game currency.
In EvE once you decide to branch out you'll want to find a group to join. I'm blanking on what the game calls them, but they're basically guilds.
There are mining, PvP, industry groups, etc. etc. Find one that does what you want to do, and you'll be openned up to all new resources and methods. The game revolves around economy and player interaction, so you get out what you put in, simply put. There's so much depth to be had, I'd suggest asking around in the EvE online reddit, they'll be happy to help you start out

What are you looking for?: MMORPG, fantasy/steampunk/scifi, no space ships, I wanna play a character, don't care if f2p or b2p, no p2w ofc, playable on EU
What games have you previously played?: Rift, WoW, Cabal, Aion, BDO, BNS, ArcheAge
What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Depends, if the game is worth it (last time for me that was Cabal), I will stop playing anything else for 2 years+. So Semi-Casual,Hardcore.
Any preferred mechanics?: Useful crafting system, preferably Action-based combat, good array of skillsets and character development, PvP & interesting instances/dungeons, graphics from this century and player interaction.
Anything specific you want to exclude?: If possible, no cash shop that offers anything but graphical modifications.

What are you looking for?
Fantasy/SciFi MMORPG preferably f2p.
What games have you previous played?
TESO, ArcheAge, SkyForge (beta), Guild Wars 2, TERA, Diablo 3 (not MMORPG but whatev), The Division, Destiny, Neverwinter (played a LOT), Maplestory, Dragon Nest, Black Desert, Wildstar (barely played it. ~ 8 hours)
What is your playstyle (casual, semi-casual, hardcore)?
I play semi-casual. Trouble staying interested at high levels (probably due to the fact that I tend to avoid the MMO part for some reason). For reasons unknown, I always try and play solo because I think I'm better-off by myself (I really need to break this habit, so any tips are useful).
Any preferred mechanics?
Mage/caster class. I love playing casters but very few games do it extremely well. Also not p2w would be excellent.
Anything specific you want to exclude?
Probably WoW. I've never really played it and i know people worship the game, but I don't have the funds to pay 15 bucks a month (well, more like I think that is frivolous to spend that much a month to play a game) nor do I have the cash to buy all the expansions. If there is a way to play for free, then by all means show me the way oh great Messiah.

What are you looking for?:
MMORPG (Fantasy, sci-fi, either one or both)
What games have you previously played?:
9Dragons, Martial Empires, LOTR, Skyforge, Blade N Soul, The Division.
What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?:
Semi-Casual. I tend to hop from game to game as soon as i get bored of the grinding part at higher levels. But I did stick with 9dragons for a year and Martial empires for 2 years.
Any preferred mechanics?:
I love Archer class. Please suggest a game that has an archer class. A newer game if possible. Also if possible, the game should be mixture of sandbox and dungeon based. I absolutely loved everything about skyforge (The Archer class being the best I have seen) and The Division, but if not for the fact that everything was instance based, I would have stuck around. It becomes really boring grinding the same dungeon over and over again just for some better equipment. Party shared exp/loot will be an added bonus.
Anything specific you want to exclude?:
Like I said, no mmorpg with just dungeons. Alos all that loli stuff like Tera has. and gender locked classes.
1
u/coud Aug 22 '16
Guild wars 2 (im playing archer on this, you can tame pets like world of warcraft)

u/ElderBuu Aug 22 '16

What are you looking for?: fantasy MMO, relatively newly released. preferable a decent sized community Has to have a priest/healer type class. F2P or cheap(ish) one-time purchase (not like 100 bucks) What games have you previously played?: TERA, some WoW. What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Semi-Casual Any preferred mechanics?: pvp and pve Anything specific you want to exclude?: monthly sub
1
1
u/SupaHawtFiya Aug 22 '16 edited Aug 22 '16
also, preferably RPG. more serious artstyle (TERA WoW acceptable, dungeon fighter or elsword type not.)

u/jmj36 Aug 22 '16 edited Aug 22 '16
What are you looking for?:
Sandbox MMO, either Fantasy, Sci-fi, or combo of each. Would prefer a sub game over free to play, but either is fine. If a cash shop exists it should be purely cosmetic, no pay to win bs. One with housing on par with EQ2 would be a huge plus.
What games have you previously played?: Everquest, Everquest 2, Eve Online, SWTOR, ESO. I played Eve Online the longest, for about 7-8 years.
What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Casual to Semi-Casual
Any preferred mechanics?: I hate raids for various reasons, so a game that does not have them at all is a huge plus. I hate waiting around for things to happen. All or most gear being player crafted also a huge plus, with intricate crafting system allowing for huge variations in gear. Loot system similar to ESO preferred, rather than rolling, need before greed, dkp, etc. PvP in some form other than duels is a must.
Anything specific you want to exclude? Any games I have already listed as having played, WoW, and any other games with cartoony art styles. Any games that require lots of grinding.

u/lokiskad Aug 21 '16
What are you looking for?: A free (No B2P or Sub) MMO focused more on PvE than PvP.
What games have you previously played?: MU Online, Conquer Online (before it came p2w), Hearthstone and at the moment I play DragonSoul on Android, which I really liked for the past 14 days.
What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Semi-Casual.
What I really liked about Conquer Online e.g. was the looting and grinding. Diablo 3 was in the same sense I thought, but I didn't like it somehow. I also want to see the progression going and I like working on goals.
Thanks in Advance guys.

What are you looking for?: A buy to play or free to play MMORPG. I would like to game with big community, lots of players online and good looking future. I stop playing WoW, I love warcraft, but when I have it I cant stop playing so...., I need something where I can spend lot of time, but still not be punished when I dont have time and can join the game only 1hour per day. I really don`t care about graphics and it can be all types of MMORPG (action, hackandslash, wow style......). Will play solo. Love PVP but I love when i need to grind gear for it, like WOTLK days, where You needed good items from raid for pvp, not just pvp items for honors..., Game that will be able to played like half AFK, when am in school and just clicking some times, it dont need to be whole game just like I love to skill up proffesion in WoW in school. :D
What games have you previously played?: WoW, Diablo 3 (lot others game like TERA... but I dont gave it lot of time, so I am opend for it)
What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: This depends on time, if I dont have lot of work, I am going hardcore all the way, but when I dont have time am still like hardcore for it but just with less time online :D. Love ranking PVP and Hard Endgame.
Any preferred mechanics?: Love crafting, auction, ranked PVP, max level grinding
Anything specific you want to exclude?: Monthly sub, low community
1
u/AboveArcadia Aug 23 '16
Not sure how long ago you tried TERA, but recently they made it pretty easy for new players to get into it (basically handing you low/mid tier gear). As far as hard endgame goes, DSU (hardest dungeon) is only clearable by a small percentage of the community, which is something hardcore players really enjoy.
1
Aug 23 '16
It was early after release, I liked the gameplay and combat, but what I dont like was that handing, I am really not into getting all gear from quest, so all other players looks and have same gear like me. How long this all same equipment will least (in lvls)? How is community? (big, active?) and about endgame are there diffrents builds? (like for equip)

What are you looking for?: A free-to-win action MMORPG to play with my friends. Focused on PvP, Dugeons and clan wars. Also something competitive with a lot of players.
What games have you previously played?: Grand Fantasia, Perfect World, Cabal, cs, lol, osu
What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Casual
Any preferred mechanics?: Skill based
Anything specific you want to exclude?: boring quests, old games.

What are you looking for?: A free MMORPG where leveling up is difficult (long term play), not P2W and hopefully a well built trading system (crafting, auctions, etc)
What games have you previously played?: GW2, POE, Tantra, Dofus, Diablo, Maplestory, Cabal, Archeage, DCUO.
What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: ive been playing videogames all my life, i dont know what to write here.
Any preferred mechanics?: none
Anything specific you want to exclude?: clearly P2W games.

What are you looking for?: A free MMORPG that can trigger my liking for the genre. Good graphics are a must (I have pretty nice computer so heavy games are not a prob) aswell as good gameplay and questing that doesn't make me sleep. Not sure if I'll pvp much since those days are way over SO good PVE is also a gogo.
What games have you previously played?: Well... Almost everything. GW2 - Yeah I'm starting with this one... I really really have been giving GW2 a try for months now, I leveled a ton of chars from 40-70 but I just can't get the feeling. Not sure why, the game is perfect, the f2p model is pretty nice, the graphics are great, the music is great, is full of players, the mechanics are different and amazing and I still cant play it for more than a few days. One of the critics is that I get bored with the class I'm currently playing which is stupid I know but it is what it is. I also don't quite like the PVE meta and not having the trinity to be honest. Yeah I know I'm weird. EVE - The nostalgia... the nostalgia :') WoW - Loved it, played untill end of wotlk and still follow the news, still I'm not up to spend 15$ a month when I'm being a casual. A WoW like game is a also a +. Aion - Played with some friends in 2012 up to lv40 if I remember, they quitted so I got bored of playing alone. For what I remember I liked it. Rift - Installed it a few months ago... Nop nop nop nop can't bare the graphics, insta uninstall. Tera - Yea... Tera... Played it in when it came free, loved the action style simply LOVE IT... and then at lv50 I got so efing efing fucking bored with the questing I rage uninstalled. Star Wars: TOR - Do not want a castrated f2p thanks. Blade and Soul - I tried it a few months ago with a friend... didn't captivated me and got bored with only a few days of gameplay. Played a few more I can't remember what happened like allods online or lord of the rings. Haven't tried wildstar but I don't think the all scifi theme will please me, I'm a more fantasy mmorpg guy.
What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Casual to Semi-Casual, won't be playing it every day that's for sure.
Any preferred mechanics?: Not really but I don't think I can stand questing a lot to level so so dungeon leveling would be nice.
Anything specific you want to exclude?: Not really, up to anything since I've tried a ton load of games and can't come to a standing.
1
u/Firebolt4848 Aug 21 '16
Have you tried Runescape?
1
u/Vatrier Aug 21 '16
No I haven't but I have read about it, not sure if I want to mostly because I'm not that into sandbox mmorpgs. Also I've read that the community of runescape is utterly toxic.

Aug 21 '16
Looking for: An MMORPG with some PVE challenge, but not pure mindless grind. And a half way decent story. I probably won't ever PvP. I'm fine with dropping a few bucks on a game, I'll probably only play it for a month or two. Really helps if there's a social aspect like dungeons and people chatting.
Games played: Everything. EQ1, EQ2, WoW (all expacs), FF (both), Secret world a bit, D&D online, Wildstar, SWTOR, Defiance, Firefall, AO, GW2, Rift.
Playstyle: Casual to semi-casual. Definitely not hardcore.
Pref Mechanics: Generally speaking I like crafting, and I liked Wildstar/SWTOR's use of telegraphs for AoE effects and the movement it forced.
Exclude: I really hated the inventory system from FF14:RR for some reason. And Wildstar never worked for me, but maybe I should have tried a controller.

I'm looking for a game me and my three roommates can all play in the same room. Leveling up and completing quests that we can all enjoy together as a group. Many dungeons to play throughout the leveling process, and something we can all learn for the first time together. We've played WoW and Diablo.
Previous Games : Maplestory, WoW
Playstyle: Semi-Casul to Hardcore
Preferred mechanics: Like running dungeons together and a not too easy leveling system

Hack and slash - Path of exile
MMORPG - Final fantasy 14, Neverwinter online, Dragon nest

What are you looking for?: I'm kind of looking for a MMORPG that has similar elements to Fiesta Online. A game with a good social aspect, popular, has a good raid system, and is 3D Anime-Styled. (I know it's going to be hard for me to actually find one).
Games that I have previously played and enjoyed: Maplestory, Fiesta Online, Eden Eternal, and Red Stone.
I don't specifically have any preferred mechanics, but if anything, aspects of a game that will completely destroy a game. For example, glitches, companies not caring about the community - which results in people leaving, and if a game is completely p2win and breaks a game.
Exclude Games such as: Tera, Blade and Soul, Wildstar
I really enjoy questing that actually progresses you, raids with lots of people, and socializing. Pretty much a game like Fiesta Online, but I know that not many if not any at all have the same aspects like Fiesta did.
1
u/coud Aug 21 '16
Theres a upcoming anime game called Twin Saga when it gets released there will be thousands of players
1
u/imclone Aug 20 '16
What are you looking for?: PVP focused game. Mainly group pvp like sieges.
Preferably a newer game so im not totally behind everyone and also so the graphics are good.
A game that doesn't take too long to level up to compete with everyone.
What games have you previously played?: I've played lineage 2, guild wars 2, warhammer.
I really liked the siege aspect and of lineage 2 and the pvp where I could just fight anyone I wanted at anytime. But I hated the leveling.

*What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?:
- Hardcore (if I enjoy the game)

For me this is not P2W though, it's just like the WoW token.
It's a way for the publisher to make money, to fuck the gold sellers and to make the playerbase happy.
Don't wanna spend money to get a sub? Buy a token with in-game currency to an other player. Need more in-game money? spend a few bucks and sell a token to an other player.
Everybody wins, except gold sellers.

What are you looking for?: A fun game with a lot of elements. My favorites have been WoW and FFXIV(Both are still contenders, have not played in a long time) Looking for really good PvE, good crafting system, not too concerned with the PvP system if the PvE can keep me occupied. I do like WoWs BGs though.
What games have you previously played?: WoW, FFXIV, LoL, Knight Online, Neverwinter, Runescape
What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Semi-Casual
Any preferred mechanics?: Open to most. Prefer the playstyle of FFXIV and WoW
Anything specific you want to exclude?: P2W. I'm okay with a subscription or purchasing the game.

Games I have played. LOL , witcher ,darksouls 3 , dragon age, tree of savior, blade and soul , diablo .
I'm looking to find a good MMORPG ( free ) or paid doesn't matter as long as >
class customization / skills like - tree of savior graphics - similar to darksouls 3 , witcher 3 or better. The environment is well polished. combat system - combat which doesn't feel weird, like when hit by enemy attacks you are pinned down etc. And your attacks can be seen on the enemy
1
u/coud Aug 20 '16
Black desert - action combat like dark souls, has a skill tree system I advise you to get a free trial from someone else first
And also be aware that the game recently went p2w kind of (allows players to sell 5 cash shop items a week)

I'm hoping to find an MMO like Lineage 2, a big world with a focus on leveling, a good crafting system, and something you can feel good sinking time into.

u/rodoxpt Aug 20 '16
Yes... Lineage 2 is the best game i've ever played, they don't make it like that anymore unfortunatly

u/coud Aug 19 '16
black desert leveling is almost infinite no level cap (or level cap is 99 but takes 5+ years maybe lol)

What are you looking for?: MMORPG that has a big social element to it. Am a social person, so i get bored really fast with games where i don't have someone to talk to, screw around with. Heck, most mmorpgs nowadays don't need you to talk to anyone. Would also prefer that it's a skill based game. Basically, am looking for a replacement for EvE.
What games have you previously played?: Eve, LoL, WoW, L2.
What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Semi-Casual.
Any preferred mechanics?: meh, not really.
Anything specific you want to exclude?: Maybe games where you can't get really good gear without playing for a HUGE amount of time.

u/Respectyourfather Aug 21 '16
You might like Mystera Legacy. Was pretty easy for me to find a buddy to go exploring the underworld with. Has skill based leveling too.

u/x0swaldx Aug 19 '16
What are you looking for?: I'm looking for an MMORPG that doesn't get repetitive or in any way boring - an immersive adventure with nice people to meet, lots of guilds :). Also, some teamplay wouldn't hurt considering that I mostly play alone - got no friends interested ATM of MMO'S.
What games have you previously played?: A LOT: WoW, SWTOR, Tera, Tree of Savior, Secret of The Solstice,
LONG TIME AGO: Vindictus, Nostale
GOT BORED/ALONE: Blade and Soul, Wildstar, GW2, Riders of Icarus, The Secret World
RUNS BAD ( AMD FX 8320 here.. ): Black Desert, Blade and Soul
What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Semi-Casual - Hardcore ( just a bit >_< )
Any preferred mechanics?: Nope, everything it's fine
Anything specific you want to exclude?: Toxic Communities.
THANKS REDDIT!

Kind of a hard request as all mmorpgs eventually get repetitive after you played it for so long (one of the reasons why people keep hopping to different mmorpgs all the time)

1.What are you looking for? An MMORPG with great pvp. I prefer instanced BG/arena type pvp, but some of my favorite pvp memories are World pvp from rifting in Aion. I've always disliked any big siege pvp since it is usually a zerg-fest and my personal influence feels very small on the battlefield. With that in mind, I am looking for somewhat of a grind at end-game for pvp gear. I do not like the route that GW2 and now WoW have taken (although I'm still learning about legion) where all pvp stats will be somewhat cookie-cutter and there is very little advantage a hardcore-pvper has over a newbie. In other words, I want gear earned through hours spent in pvp to give me more power than someone who just hit max level yesterday.
2.What games have you previously played? Everquest, Everquest 2, DaoC, Shadowbane, SWTOR, Wildstar, Archeage, LotR, Warhammer, Aion, Tera, City of Heroes and pretty much any big fantasy MMORPG that has had hype in the last 15 years. Some I have played for years, and others have been only for hours. I have also tried most MOBA's, but they lose my interest quickly as there is no real “progression.”
3.What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)? Hardcore
4.Any preferred mechanics? I like games with the holy trinity of healer, tank, dps. Where a class has a defined and niche purpose like classes in Everquest. I've always been partial to paladin/templar hybrid type classes, so that would be a plus.
5.Anything specific you want to exclude? No real deal breakers, but some things I don't care for are crafting, gender locked classes, and a extremely low or dying population.

Looking for an F2P MMO with a fun Archer class. Played most of the current MMO's on the market, but none of them seem to scratch this particular itch. Mostly looking to play casually until I can afford to resub to either FFXIV or WoW. Kinda leaning towards tab-target combat.
1
u/coud Aug 19 '16
have you tried guild wars 2 archer or Tera archer (action combat) or Rift archer or lord of the ring archer
2
1
u/zacewing Aug 19 '16
I've tried all of the above. Rift doesn't do it for me anymore, especially after they made the game P2W. GW2's Ranger never did it for me either. TERA's archer is one of the more fun classes in that game, but it still didn't feel 100% right to me I guess?

u/UnrealKaid Aug 19 '16
1) Im looking for a game that has great end game and challenging fights. I played a lot of Dragon Nest and the raids in that were amazing. So something like that with lots of classes and advancement.
2) Dragon Nest, Tera (End game raids/dungeons were all just burst battles.), Vindictus (repetative grind), Blade and Soul (Great story! just seemed like the end game raids were all burst battle like Tera)
3) Semi-casual to hardcore
4) Preferred free action combat system, lots of skills, class advancement, and challenging fighting where you have to actually have team strategy (not sure if thats what was meant by mechanics haha)
5) point n click/tab targeting and anything id have to pay money for. (im a cheap college student and cant afford to pay subscriptions or anything like that)

I'm looking for any MMO that has good pve, pvp, a good community and doesn't require my whole life to be invested in to get anything out of it (black desert), something that can be casual or hardcore I guess. Thanks!

I'm wondering how many MMOs are set in modern day or in a not too far away future.
I can only think of 4:
DC Universe Online
Champions Online
Defiance
The Secret World
Any idea guys? I wanna see some buildings, some cars!

u/Stovakor Aug 19 '16
The Secret World has present day setting - didnt play the others but i i think TSW is the only one

I'm looking for an MMO with a heavy PvP emphasis a la Warhammer Online, PvE content is fun as well but there needs to be good PvP to hold my interest. Albion Online and Camelot Unchained seem intriguing to me, but alas they are not out yet.
I have played WoW (a long time ago) and some Warhammer Online.
I suppose you could call me a hardcore player, I prefer the game being skill oriented rather than grind-oriented because I don't want to spend half my life playing the game to be competitive. I also am extremely interested in the idea of player-driven economies and housing which are also part of the open world.
I thoroughly enjoy open-world pvp and world-objective type PvP. Nothing turn based.

Played MS and Runescape only - can someone please give me some recs based on this? I think I'm semi casual or so.
In Runescape, I love that I was able to randomly cut trees for wood, fish for food, mine and smelt for weapons, and all these were skills that got better. This was in 2006 I think though and I didn't like graphics or the combat. I dislike turn based combat where I hit a lot of zeroes and 1s. The quests were interesting too like having to go to the desert place or the jail and meet certain conditions.
MapleStory I played for 2005-2008/9 ish and sporadically up to reboot. I liked the real time action combat more and enjoyed seeing my damage increase and getting items immediately from the dropped monsters. I like the four stats I could put into but wish it weren't SO focused (ex Warriors ONLY focused on STR and DEX, no luck or intelligence which I wanted to up) and having more stats would be cool. I love cute art since I love anime and I think I prefer the 2D. I liked party quests but hated how Grindy it was and how many scammers/hackers/immature ppl were. I also hated how many quests felt really Grindy and repetitive but I liked the amount of content like bosses that spawned sometimes and being able to do dungeon quests and craft items and different shops and free markets with items for sale. Dislike inflation but that can't be helped sometimes.
Regarding PvP, I tried League of Legends and found it frustrating and never enjoyed it in Runescape while MS's was just okay and not real PvP imo. I guess I don't absolutely need it and would prefer a sandbox world.
I also tried Ragnarok briefly but not enough to come to things with it. I think I was an archer and do enjoy a variety of classic races and jobs (always preferred thief most).
I find the stories in most of these lacking but a decent story may be enjoyable. Oh and more char customization is good of course. And more equips and maybe spells and crafts and abilities and free roaming capabilities would be good too I suppose.
Also even though I prefer action, it doesn't have to be. I solo more than a group but a decent community wouldn't be remiss either.
Based on this, can anyone recommend me their top 1 or 2 MMOs? I prefer Free 2 Play obviously but could be convinced to do possibly do 1 Time Payment or maybeeee Subscription if it's really good.
The more streamlined, time tested and high quality graphics the better but these are much lower priorities.

u/Caekie Aug 19 '16
I think you may want to try "Mabinogi" by Nexon.
It seems you really enjoy a "free lance" type of game where you can do anything you want while also enjoying "hybridization" and combining different traits of different classes to form your own style.
Mabinogi has no classes and only skills you rank up, categorized by archetype. You have Combat, Magic, Alchemy, and various other specialized skill trees (you'll find out if you look into it.) Because of this system however you are able to use different types of archetypes at the same time. You can easily use magic while wielding a sword or bow or you can use a skill from the Melee skill tree and then instantly swap into the Fighter tree and combine that.
With reference to Runescape, Mabinogi also has many "life skills" (think wood cutting and cooking in runescape) ... which are exactly the same as well! Cooking, Fishing, Wood cutting, Mining, Tailor, Potion making... Mabinogi has individual skills for each craft and they must be ranked individually. Even Music playing and the like.
And as a personal touch. I absolutely LOVE the mainstream storyline. It gets you super hype as your character progresses through the story and learns about the world they exist in and their role.

u/Saradalyn Aug 18 '16
What are you looking for?: Either a game with a class tree, being able to pick and choose abilities from a wide variety, or a classless game altogether. The latter I enjoyed the most.
What games have you previously played?: Mabinogi - LOVED it, minus the fact that Nexon has its hands all over it and most of my friends have stopped playing it. I am also enjoying Guild Wars 2 PvE, but the classes feel a little too...confining (outside of Ele and Engi, they have so many toys!)
What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Semi-casual. If a game really sucks me in, probably more toward the hardcore end.
Any preferred mechanics?: Action combat, for sure. In addition, I am a sucker for characters that can deal damage over time.
Anything specific you want to exclude?: Nexon; excessive use of Pay2Win; games where I cannot make dark-skinned humans.
1
u/Stovakor Aug 19 '16
The Secret World has great classles system - combat isnt action (tab target with movement) its b2p with 10 day trial
1
u/Caekie Aug 19 '16
props for Mabinogi. I'm personally a Mabinogi fan myself but have left it due to... well. you know the deal with Nexon.
Anyway currently there are very few games with a pure classless system or skill trees where you can pick and customize your specs. my first thought would be Runescape due to their "pseudo classless" in a sense that you don't HAVE to use magic as a warrior spec but you can if you want to or even archery.
sadly there are not any games left that fit the bill on this one. Tree of Savior has classes but you can mix and amalgamate different class promotions to create your own personal combination. the manual stat distribution also lets you further specialize your character but you won't be using wizard skills while being an archer or anything.
1
u/Saradalyn Aug 19 '16
Yeah. It breaks my heart about Mabi, but alas, it is where it is. I not-so-secretly hope that someday it'd be picked up by another company, but it's just a dream...I would love to hop back in there and throw around fireballs and meteors and windmill everything that survives xD
On the Tree of Savior note, it does look like something I would be REALLY interested in playing, but I do admit to being a stickler for having dark-skin options for humans in MMOs, which ToS doesn't have (yet, supposedly).

Rift or neverwinter online has skill trees

Guild Wars 1 feels like it could scratch this itch maybe.
try The Secret World - it has similar system to GW1
1
u/Caekie Aug 19 '16
I suggest Mabinogi in the sense that you can customize your character how you want and play how you want. Of course freedom of choice will result in sub-optimal dps in any case but Mabinogi let's you use magic if you're holding a bow just because you totally can. Mabinogi also features instanced dungeons with a randomly generated map layout each time so you arent going to be doing the same rotation everytime you run it. But the biggest appeal of Mabinogi would probably their classless system and their emphasis on life skills/music and just socializing.

- Something similar to City of Heroes, with the main focus being a combination of diverse character creation and fun endgame content, especially raids
- WoW, City of Heroes, ESO, EVE, Everquest (project 99)
- Hardcore PvE. Had over 10,000 hours on City of Heroes before they disabled the feature where you could track your hours in game, which was a couple years before it closed
- Mez/Crowd Control and Debuffer role, these are my favorite roles to play. Doesn't have to be a dedicated class, tanks and supports that have these kinds of moves are fine, too. I enjoy raiding and powerleveling
- No titles from NCSoft, preferably not a game where every class has only one build path, I consider WoW and Everquest to be games with too rigid build paths

Nowadays it's pretty hard for a games' focus to be on grouping. Most players are generally soloists and unless you're in a guild group play is rare to come by. Almost all MMORPGs nowadays focus on their end game content because that's where a majority of the playerbase will be at. Sorry friend. I do have some suggestions but they fufill a few of your criterias while blatantly defying others.

I have just recently gotten internet faster than dial-up. So I want to play a mmorpg that I havn't been able to before now. I also do not have a lot of money at the moment so no subscription based games. I live in Australia so take that into account to.
I like things with smooth animations, no jerky movements. Also never spend money on in-game stuff so no p2w please.
I have played Tera at a friends and really enjoyed it despite the lag. So something similar to that would be great. I would play Tera again, but everyone keeps telling me it's dead or dying. So I would like a game that is relevant now, I have no idea what people are playing nowadays. Thanks in advance!

Tera is not dead it just has a lesser population than before due to its age my battleground queues are still quite fast

WoW - Black desert - Star wars the old republic - FFXIV
Looking for good story/lore, PVE, RP community, well done character building, building mechanic (player's home for example), highly populated game, frequent updates and developers who care about the game and community.
If you should choose one of which I listed up there and fit as much from what I wrote, which one would you suggest me to go with ?

What are you looking for?: Something that's not FPS with a fun combat system, I don't really care about any learning curves or about how difficult combat is What games have you previously played?: Runescape, Archeage, Wizard101, FFXIV, Wildstar, Trove, Elsword, Vindictus What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Any preferred mechanics?: I prefer hack and slash, but those games aren't exactly games you can play in the long term, I also want a game where you can find a lot of players. Anything specific you want to exclude?: I don't really like anything sci-fi like Wildstar, but I don't mind post-apocalyptic or something of that nature

What are you looking for?: Cute anime style game (READ BELOW TO SEE WHAT I LIKE). The cutest the better. Kawaii stuff only.
What games have you previously played?: Maplestory, Trickster Online, Flyff, Tales of Pirates (good ol' times) and Grand Fantasia.
What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Semi-Casual going into hardcore if i feel like it.
Any preferred mechanics?: Good story, pvp, mounts, craft and CUTE STUFF.
Anything specific you want to exclude?: I'll be playing Twin Saga in the future, so don't include it.
Any help would be awesome. Thx in advance!!

u/UnrealKaid Aug 18 '16
Dragon Nest. good story, competetive pvp w/ multiple modes to play, lots of cool mounts however you have to pay for them, great gameplay and lots of cutesy anime art style
2
u/Banana_Keeper Aug 18 '16
Mabinogi has a buttload of crafting, mounts and pets. The graphics are dated but still cutesey. Avatars are animu shoujos and your ingame mommy has amazing.... assets
Combat can be a turn off for some because its based on rock-paper-scissors skills (light attack beats heavy, counter beats light/heavy, defend beats light, heavy beats defend, range/magic beats counter, etc.)

I'm looking for an MMO with an actual community to talk with, and a strong emphasis on guilds.
I would love to be a part of something where gameplay actually benefits from being on voice chat with your group.
I was once a part of something where every guild knew each other. There was a sense of allegiance to whatever group you were a part of, to the point of unique and completely player driven situations involving your reputation on the server, or people dealing with traitors and so on.
I'm not interested in a so called mmo where nearly every player is on a solo anti-social quest for the best gear score.
Community size isn't an issue for me so much as an ACTIVE community. I've heard people throw around phrases like "small but active" or supportive etc. In fact, a smaller community might be better.
-Optional preferences:-
Gameplay over story - I usually skip quest dialogs and lore.
PvP (if any) is fun but doesn't detract from the PvE experience
1
u/jutsurai Aug 22 '16
What you want is absolutely Albion Online. İt is a hardcore pvp game and all guild know each other.
1
u/PCdefenders Aug 21 '16
Until New stuff comes out, i think wow is the best devloped mmo right now. Ive heard some nice things about FF14 but never played it myself. BDO had fun combat but endless grind and l2w Can suck me off. For me the new wow expansion is the way to go until future mmos come out.
1
u/coud Aug 18 '16
black desert has a emphasis on guilds (but game is going p2w) i think also ESO
1
u/Wolf_Down_Games Aug 18 '16
I played BDO back in closed beta and decided to not even play day 1 even though I bought in already.
They didn't unveil the cash shop prices until nearly the end of the closed betas, and the fact that all the cosmetics were locked behind a pay wall of about $30 per character for an outfit, I just couldn't bring myself to be a part of that. It doesn't surprise me that they've ended up caving in and going back on their promise of keeping the game NOT p2w.
ESO is a small consideration, but it seems really lackluster and dull in almost everything. I almost feel like I'd rather play WoW.

What are you looking for?: Good combat mechanics, immersive environment, active community, relatively open world, ability to take different routes with play style.
What games have you previously played?: Archeage, WoW, GW2, Dragon Age (all of them), TERA, Rift, ESO, Black Desert.
What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Hardcore.
Any preferred mechanics?: Multiple combat, and play style routes, third person.
Anything specific you want to exclude?: Side scroller, poor graphics, Pay2Win.

Looking for fun summoner, pet, warlock classes. Do not want to play GW2 or FFXIV. Appreciate any recommendations.
1
u/Jalian174 Aug 17 '16
WoW's demonology can summon swarms of demons and buff them as a unique form of dotting (with easier target swapping!). There is also hunter, with beastmastery (which will have 2 pets once Legion launches and they have their weapon), and survival (melee alongside the pet, working closely with the pet).
Rift has at least one pet skill tree for each class, at least of the original 4 classes. Beasmaster for hunter, ranger for rogue, druid for cleric, and elementalist and necromancer for mages.
LOTRO's loremaster works closely with pet to support allies or just do damage, and the Captain class has a human pet (herald) that they use to buff allies.

I'm looking for a game that has really nice graphics (looking forward to moonlight blade eu release), I don't want it to be pay2win and has many players on the servers. I like doing quests so I'd like them to be good. I'm playing just to chill and have some fun so good, calm soundtrack would be welcome. I've played Aion, Blade and Soul, Guild Wars 2 and really liked those, especially BnS. I'm casual player I think. I like the way you move camera in Blade and Soul, but it's not that necessary. I don't want B2P, P2P games.

What are you looking for?: Mostly something I can actually play on my old system (by old, I mean Core 2 Duo E7200, GeForce 8800 GTS 512, 8 Gig RAM). I've played a lot of games, and loved them, but due to graphical/system updates to said games I can no longer play them. I know I need a new system, but I can't afford one, and probably won't be able to for the foreseeable future. EvE seems like the perfect type game, but I just don't dig the space ship thing. I like Sci-Fi, but would prefer not to be bound to a ship/in space all the time. I am strongly considering Albion, but 30 bucks for something I don't know if I'll like is kind of steep. I would like something with good PvE, deep crafting, deep story, PvP is OK (I suck, but could probably get better), sounds silly but anything where I can be a farmer (growing crops) as a tradeskill is a huge bonus. However at this point I'm pretty much willing to try anything that won't cost a ton to get started.
What games have you previously played?:WoW (no longer meet reqs), ESO (no longer meet reqs), GW2 (runs very poorly, and can't do WvW at all), Wildstar (Runs at about 5fps unless I turn settings so low it gives me a serious headache, which sucks because it seems super fun), The Repopulation (System update, then completely shut down, which is also a shame), SkySaga (I dig this game, it runs OKish, but is less MMO and more "this is fun, but only for an hour or so at a time"), Aion (Seemed OK, but for some reason I just couldn't get into it), Das Tal (Now The Exiled, been alpha testing, runs very poorly), EvE (Seems like the perfect game, but seriously, I know it's petty, but being in a ship all the time just isn't something I can get into), FFXIV (tried the free trial, technically could run it OK ish, but any area with more than a couple people went to about 3 fps, sometimes a crash), AoC (Runs poorly, and I just didn't dig it, but it's been a long time), The Secret World (Tried the trial, and it ran very poorly) and I've played EQ, EQ2, UO, DAoC, WAR, probably some others too.
What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Semi-Hardcore? I'm disabled and have a crapton of free time, but get distracted easily.
Any preferred mechanics?:I really love deep crafting systems, I love player driven econ, I like exploration and taking my time, I'm more of a PvE type of guy, but PvP is fun too. Story/Lore is great, I think I've spent more time reading the lore in a few games than actually playing it. RP scene isn't really required, but a big bonus. I lean more toward sandbox than themepark, but with a good enough story themepark can be pretty great.
Anything specific you want to exclude?: At this point? Not really. I really don't care for Anime style art, but if it's a good enough game I could get past it. I would also not like a serious P2W system, I don't mind a sub, I don't mind P2Convenience, I don't mind B2P (as long as it's on the cheaper end), but I don't have the ability to spend a ton of money.
2
u/Jalian174 Aug 17 '16
seconding LOTRO - crafting isn't super deep but there is plenty to do with it and plenty of benefits
2
u/jwalker524 Aug 17 '16
Thanks, been looking into it a bit, how necessary are the expansions? I couldn't figure out if you have to buy those AND sub, or if a sub covers them until you aren't subbed anymore, do you know by chance? 80 bucks for the expansions is pretty steep, so what would you consider absolutely necessary? Your advice is very much appreciated.
2
u/Jalian174 Aug 17 '16
LOTRO's expansions and quest packs are the reason I usually avoid recommending LOTRO, tbh. A lot of people cite SWTOR as the worst f2p model but I really think LOTRO is. I paid for a lot of content in LOTRO through subbing, and eventually earning the TP. The expansions I bought as they came out so it wasn't expensive all at once. That said, I believe they go on sale (especially on christmas) and are also available in bundles. /r/lotro is probably a better place for information than me - lotro was my first mmo, but its now my 'play when im bored' mmo, just because of burnout.
2
u/jwalker524 Aug 17 '16
Appreciate it, thanks a ton!
1
u/Nordic_Hell Aug 19 '16
LOTRO is an amazing game really. All of the expansions add a significant addition to the games. As someone who shys away from theme park MMO's I absolutely Love LOTRO. I return to it often when i get burned out elsewhere.
Very fun, relaxing and Amazing story. Worth every penny IMO.

u/coud Aug 17 '16
Lord of the ring online maybe try it

I'm looking for a game that has a bit of a grind and caters a bit more to the pve, but still has some pvp.
I played gw2 and ffxiv quite a bit. I enjoyed gw2's combat alot more but I do enjoy ffxiv's "jack of all trades" thing. I do like the open world aspect as well.
Thanks for your time.
2
u/Jalian174 Aug 17 '16
WoW is faster than FF14 but not as action-y as GW2. Not many games have the jack of all trades thing of FF14. It will have fate-like events in the expansion in two weeks (and has some in the pre-expansion event going on now). Caters to PVE but has popular pvp.
2
u/DataDrain Aug 17 '16
I've been skirting around the idea of wow for a while. Whats the leveling/loot system like?
1
u/Jalian174 Aug 17 '16
Leveling is kinda tedious and slow. They have made improvements to it recently and the event I mentioned going on for the next two weeks has amazing experience if you hate questing or spamming dungeons. Major rotational abilities are available at lower levels now which is nice, but leveling is still tedious, grindy, and kind of a barrier to the expansions. People say that end-game is the real game, but I think leveling in new expansions is a good experience as well - it only sucks when its outdated.
I'm not sure what you want to know about loot, are you asking how do you gear up, or what kind of stats exist?
1
u/DataDrain Aug 17 '16
Gearing up is what im wondering about. I wasnt sure whats more efficient (crafting or drops) or even in dungeons (rolling for loot?)

So i was watching re:zero's latest episode about the white whale raid and i thought of other raids in sword art online, log horizon, gate, etc as well. now i have the urge to go join some huge ass raids with lots of people (20+?) taking down a huge ass boss. my current mmorpg has a limit of 12 member raids so its not that huge.
so which mmos have that kind of fun content? doesnt specifically have to be mmorpgs. also would prefer it to have less grind wall to reach that content because i have very little playtime.
