General Question Engineering at Mac
Hey guys just wondering how Mac U's engineering program is for employment outcomes.
I've been tossing up a few engineering fields but I think I'll go electrical so any specific employment outcomes for that specifically would be much appreciated.
The main reason I want to come here is obviously the great campus, which I've visited many times because... I live only a short walk away from here. I live among the Macquarie Park apartments near Macquarie Centre so yeah.
For some context, I'm looking to transfer out of UNSW to here after first year, just because everything was a bit too much, and the trimesters just magnified those issues. I understand that UNSW is removing them soon, but I still think that I would not be able to pass electrical engineering at UNSW if I were to undertake it. Travel time to UNSW is probably around 1 and a half hours in total, whilst for Macquarie, it would be barely 10-20 minutes walk. I know some people will tell me to stay but I am rather serious about me not being able to pass UNSW electrical engineering, at least for a while. Trust me, I know my where my capabilities start and end, and I don't think I would pass UNSW's elec eng at all.
Any knowledge on the workload and whether it's even easier than UNSW will also be much appreciated.
I'm not too obsessed over the social life and the like, pretty much just the employment outcomes.

Idk about electrical eng but my friend is an international student, did civil engineering and he got a job lined up after graduation. His Wam was like 70-75+
But my domestic friend who did mechatronics engineering (kinda like electrical + mech eng I think??) doesn't have a job lined up after graduating despite having a high wam.

I'm a third year electrical engineer at mq and from what I've heard from friends at UNSW, it is much easier, however, the quality of your education does drop with that.
I would still say that you should transfer if you're worried about not passing at UNSW but I think at MQ you have to be prepared to deal with shitty lecturers and tutors in classes that won't help you a lot.
As for employability, electrical and civil engineering are two of the easiest fields to find a job in at the moment (I also think electrical opens doors to much more fun projects!)

How are the employment/internship outcomes? Does going to a less prestigious uni really matter in ur experience?
I had people saying that they had to justify why they went to UTS or Mac as opposed to a Go8 in job interviews and stuff and I just don't think that's true.
As long as it's feasible and I can get a job in the macquarie innovation area, I'm fine with it.

I got my internship halfway through this year and it was the first one I applied to. Whether I just got lucky or not is up for debate but I think for electrical engineering you shouldn't have to worry about finding an internship or job.
As for the being asked to justify why you go to MQ, I have never heard of this and I think any place asking you to justify what uni you went to isn't a place you'd wanna work at.

For the people who might say its skill issues but the truth is yeah unsw elec eng is the worst. The first year the very first elec course elec1111 last year had 230 students passed the course out of 850 students. You might be making very smart choice
