Glad he's in a better place.

But why didn't his scene hair come along with him?

69

u/Davey_Jones_Locker 6d ago

That's where the heroin lived

10

u/Smartbuu 6d ago

Maybe withdrawal syndrome or smth

10

u/cam-san 6d ago

Maybe the real scene hair was the friends we made along the way.

Fixed the title for you…

Thank God. I remember seeing this when it first got posted years ago. This is the second time this week I've seen this at the top of r/popular. Fucking ai bots farming karma.

God didn’t care when he was a heroine on addict?

12

u/SuedJche 6d ago

It's almost certainly a typo but "heroine on addict" is funny

178

u/Mtatk 6d ago

Nope. God never cares. People make their own choices, whether to continue on the same path or to make a change. You are the only one that can change you.

20

u/NeurofleshMusic 6d ago

It's almost like.. we.. are gods. Masters of our own realities. Creators, destroyers.

Nope...cant be, everything in my life happens because of some magical deity. Facts /s

u/No-Computer6230 6d ago

I don’t understand why many here who proudly don’t believe in God take offense to someone who does. People choose to believe in certain politicians, astrology signs, positive energy, religion, atheism, motivational speakers, etc.

Heroin has taken many lives and ruined countless families. I don’t care if he thinks Tinkerbell made him sober, I’m happy for his progress. Btw I’m not religious at all, just ok being tolerant of someone with a different view than I have.

117

u/LastoftheGreybeards 6d ago

My only frustration when people thank God above all else comes from the fact that people relinquish the true power that we have as humans. When someone beats a medical condition, it wasn’t the years of scientific research, doctors, nurses, etc. It was God. When someone is saved from an impossible situation, they may thank the rescuers, but also thank God the most. I get that it helps make an uncertain world certain, but goddamn is it not fucking disappointing as a species that we can’t stop and be like, “Fuck, all that training and conditioning really helped me land that shot and now our team won the game.”

Don’t get me started on all the chaos, pain, and suffering around the world and the ones with the power to change it waits for God to do something with their prayers.

The same reason that many here who proudly believe in God take offense to someone who doesn't.

8

u/alangerhans 6d ago

I think a lot of us have been on the receiving end of just a little too much christian love

6

u/cropguru357 6d ago

Because credit should go to the folks who literally helped this man?

17

u/ssmit102 6d ago

I don’t know why so many who proudly believe in God take offense when people state the offensive things that God does, if in fact he does create everything.

If God creates everything you can’t just wash away his responsibility when it’s convenient for you, which is what an overwhelming amount of religious folks do.

30

u/Particular-Caramel32 6d ago

Because they're giving credit to something that doesn't exist. Give credit where it's due. If he turned his life around, HE should get the credit, not the invisible sky fairy.

6

u/Avocados_number73 6d ago

I prefer the term space demon.

4

u/Benjaphar 6d ago

Its the height of arrogance. My good fortune (but never my bad fortune) is because god favors me above all of those other people. The omnipotent creator of the universe loves me more than most.

Along with the fact that’s it’s such obvious bull.

That’s what I personally find annoying.

12

u/Avocados_number73 6d ago

God intentionally made heroine addictive though... he created opiods. He knew the future and did it anyway. He is thanking God for a problem he caused.

Never understood why people think God is all loving when he is a monster even worse than Satan.

Let's tolerate the death cult who thinks the rest of us are doomed to suffer for eternity.

19

u/Katorthoma 6d ago

You don’t think a large proportion of people fundamentally misunderstanding reality is a problem in a democratic society?

You don’t think these people’s beliefs affect others? What do you think he tells his kids?

Plenty of people are able tho drastically improve their lives without being indoctrinated into believing complete nonsense.

Belief in god is also not remotely the same phenomenon as “belief” in politicians or motivational speakers (unless it’s some form of unhealthy idolization). Or “belief” in atheism (which is of course an attitude of unbelief). Astrology and supernatural energies is a lot more similar, but usually a bit less harmful since it’s less organized.

-2

u/Mike0621 6d ago

no, i don't think it's a problem that people believe there is a being who created the world, cares for us and sometimes intervenes to improve people's lives. i don't personally understand it, but I don't think it's a problem.

what I do think it's a problem is people who hide behind a faith while only selectively following the few beliefs that help them exploit and discriminate against others. however, those people would just find something else to hide behind if religion didn't exist, so that's not the fault of religion

13

u/ssmit102 6d ago

People believing in these sorts of things have affected our laws and livelihoods however, so to say it’s not a problem is simply ignoring it because it’s inconvenient to you.

What I know for certain is that religion has prevented me all my life (once of age) to purchase liquor at a store on Sunday or any beer or wine before 12pm on a Sunday. I’m not really a drinker but this is one direct example of how religion has directly affected laws in my state.

A true American approach would be to remove any such ideology at all from lawmaking but as we can clearly see all around us, lawmakers are consistently inserting their religion into everything we have. This is permeating constantly into education with lawmakers trying to dictate the curriculum.

So sure, I completely agree to let people believe whatever they want to believe, however the fact is that many people use their religion to change laws and force you into their belief system, regardless of what you believe. For a country supposedly founded on the idea of separation of church and state, is like us to really live up to that.

3

u/Katorthoma 6d ago

So religion is only a negative influence in politics and social relations when it’s selectively applied? If religious people only followed iron age political, scientific and social doctrine more rigorously, we would all be fine? Does that sound reasonable?

The problem is that people are manipulated into surrendering their critical thinking and following an arbitrary man made ideology believing it’s divine law. And some of that man made ideology not only misguiding people but making them do really bad things.

u/Rush-23 6d ago

It’s not offensive. Just ludicrous.

2

u/tk421wayayp421 6d ago edited 6d ago

People don't choose their beliefs, they believe what convinces them.

Try to force your brain to believe something that you aren't convinced is true, you can't.

Try to choose to believe the room you are in is on fire. You can imagine what it would be like and what you would do but if you truly believe the room is on fire then you would most likely run outside and call the fire department.

I am not convinced leprechauns are real. Even if you say that I will be punished for not believing they are real, that doesn't mean I can force my brain to be convinced something is real if I am not genuinely convinced it is.

Being convinced of something is a reaction that we become aware of not that we choose. Similar to what we find funny. Laughter is a reaction. There are many jokes/comedians that I don't find funny, Jeff Foxworthy for example. I can't choose to find him funny if I am not genuinely convinced he is funny.

1

u/lemonspritz 6d ago

Also not to mention that a LOT of sobriety resources are overtly Christian-based (AA/NA for example) so I dont think many of the people that helped him would take offense to this, either.

I personally am not a fan of it, I understand there are NA groups that lean more secular, but the religious language embedded into the program would bother me if I was attending

HE (the former homeless heroin addict) has himself to thank for this.

Each soul is a tiny spark of the Divine Creator/aka God, experiencing all their creations (including heroin).

Every day millions do it: screw up their life - OR - reset it.

Maybe multiple times.

You, me, we've all been there to some extent, and we've all got that little fractal of the Creator along for the ride.

Keep experiencing, friends!

If believing in God keeps this guy sober then let him believe. Not a religious person myself. If I got sober I would blame it on the spirit of Dolly Parton or something.

0

u/DangerousDisplay7664 6d ago

But what if the guy was not at all religious before and they’re just brainwashing him when he’s vulnerable and needing help and support? Thats predatory behaviour in my books.

14

u/fuckthat1mod 6d ago

That's literally what alcoholics anonymous does

4

u/fuckedfinance 6d ago

Not really.

I was in AA for a long while, and never felt pressured or a brainwash attempt. The terms are simplified for consumption, but practically speaking "higher power" can mean literally anything. Some people see it as fate, some people see it as nature, some people see it as God, some people see it as the other long sober people in the group.

AA is often held in churches not because of the religious aspects, but churches offer the space either extremely cheap or free to groups of people trying to get sober. Many other places just won't allow AA groups for a number of reasons.

7

u/PsychologicalGlass47 6d ago

The most famous case is of a homeless woman named Jennifer Gale, who faced open hostility from the staff for being trans (from incorrect name usage to being forced to sleep and shower among the men) to the point that she didn't feel safe staying at any of their shelters. Reddit and being insufferable about Christianity, name a better combo

Heartwarming post about a guy who’s come from the bottom and got himself a second chance at life after battling a brutal addiction and you’ve got basement dwellers only takeaway being ‘UH, HOW DARE HE TAKE COMFORT IN HIS RELIGION AND VIEW HIS FAITH IN A HIGHER POWER AS KEY TO HIS RECOVERY’

I’m not even religious but you people are more insufferable than religious people.

Who are you to tell him the impact believing in God and having faith had on his life? There may have been times where he felt like he had nobody left in his corner other than his blind faith that God has a plan or whatever they believe

I just don’t get seeing something heartwarming like this and your mind immediately driving for something negative to complain about, what a dreadfully unhappy existence

8

u/Sooowasthinking 6d ago

I have many issues with religion. Most of my issues are about how people treat each other when it comes to religion.
But im also an advocate for minding your business in all aspects of life.A person’s relationship with whatever they believe is there business not anyone else’s.So if this man BELIEVES that whatever god he worships helped get through a painful part of his life who are we to judge him.
The part that I hate about the internet is that there are way too many armchair experts, that are more than happy to let us know it.

9

u/Ok_Actuary8 6d ago

as an very committed atheist, I agree: whatever worked for you man. No need to be too judgmental and purist, he could believe it was the tooth fairy who saved him, idc. Bouncing back and living a decent life is more important than getting rid of all your delusions. 🫶🌈

5

u/InebriatedPhysicist 6d ago

For a lot of people, the issue is less that individual people of faith talk about it, and more the fact that AA literally forces you to believe in a “higher power” to accomplish their steps. It can also put a bad taste in some people’s mouths whenever they hear addicts give god credit for their own accomplishments in getting clean.

Not saying anyone should be bashing anything because of this though. Just want to give you a perspective that might leave you less confused about what other people are thinking.

8

u/TwizzleShnizzle 6d ago

In fairness, you've also made it a negative with this post. Let's just say good for this guy.

3

u/Impatient-Hydrangea 6d ago

7

u/ExtraCartographer707 6d ago

I can’t tell if all these people are bots or if they really do hate me and think I’m an ignorant subhuman for believing in God. It’s kind of scary.

11

u/Kyrie_Blue 6d ago

As an atheist, I think belief in God is fine. I believe something different, but neither of us have the knowledge or power to prove which is correct. The more I learn about quantum entanglement and how irradic “logic” behaves in a quantum state, I’m less sure there is no governing force in the universe. Many scientific studies and papers have been published, showing that the universe is Participatory.

Religion, on the other hand, is a problem. Religion starts wars. Religion creates dependancy. Religion prevents you from considering other options, under the threat of corporeal violence & death, or “ever-lasting” torment in the afterlife. These are created by Men, to serve their own nefarious urges. If religion was infallible, there would be one, and it wouldnt change what you’re allowed to eat and wear every hundred years or so.

I think the people that “hate” you for your beliefs don’t understand what they are actually angry at, but its the pseudo-Hierarchy used to manipulate and colonize the world in the name of a God. That’s not your fault, but you should be wary that the people preaching Gospel at you have alterior motives than “saving your eternal soul”

3

u/Ok_Topic5270 6d ago

Manipulation is the name of the game!

I don’t usually get involved with conversations like this, but I’ve never seen anyone willing to call out how much the Christian church fear-mongers people.

I reverted to Islam for that reason. Honestly, the idea that I’ll go to Heaven and my friends will go to hell because they don’t believe in Jesus….. what kind of heaven doesn’t have any of my friends in it?

6

u/ArgyleGhoul 6d ago

Telling a young child "if you don't believe this you will burn forever and ever" is a form of indoctrinating mental abuse, and faith is a trauma response.

1

u/Ok_Topic5270 5d ago

Islam has just as many dated views that I find difficult to equate with modern-day reality, especially in regards to to warfare and the treatment of women/LGBTQ peoples.

I think having a candid conversation about the concept of religion SHOULD be easy, but some folks are a bit to literal on their interpretation of the books.

Ultimately, I treat religious text as more of a supplementation for being a good person more than “The verbatim word of God”, and that’s how I think it aught to be. We can speculate about the afterlife forever, but what it takes to be a good person is something that almost everyone can agree on.

3

u/Kyrie_Blue 6d ago

I think all Abrahamic religions fall into this for me, no offense intended. Monotheism tends to imply that hierarchal rule is okay, and then that fractals down into the religion’s “Rule”. Judaism least so, because questioning the nature of God is baked into their religion and encouraged. God is not shown as some infallible perfect being, as he is in Christianity or Islam.

I am by no means a Theologian, I just took Religion in highschool for 4 years, focusing on Christianty the first two years and World Religion & Philosophy the last two. Then a Mythology & Folklore course in college. I was a History major, so I saw traces of Religion in all the major events of history, as well as the rise and fall of empires (and Salt too, as a crazy aside). So take what I say as someone with a outsider’s perspective, but I’m not completely ignorant.

The creation of “hell” for Christianity was the chef’s kiss * on top of the rest of the manipulation created. Hell (Hel) is ancient Greek, and wasn’t described in any relation to Abrahamic Religion until Dante’s Inferno. As someone with pagan/celtic roots, I see how much of my culture Christianty ripped off and presented as their own too.

4

u/BrokenArrow1283 6d ago

Christians who truly follow the teachings of Christ are some of the best people on this earth. So I would hope that wouldn’t be your reaction. The people who do have that reaction are truly bigots, however.

1

u/deceptinomonom 5d ago

You're so right! Like traveling preacher Benjamin Garlick who partnered with churches in Florida, Indiana, Minnesota, and Texas to spread god's good word!

Just gotta ignore the fact that he was convicted on several felony counts, including aggravated rape of a child, aggravated sexual battery, solicitation of sexual exploitation of a minor and violations of Tennessee’s Child Protection Act.

Truly one of god's best soldiers unfortunately wasting away in a jail.

2

u/BrokenArrow1283 5d ago

Yes, thanks for helping prove my point that the Christians who truly follow Christ’s teachings are truly good people. Thank you for the great example of what not to do and what not to be. That man did not follow Christ.

Let me guess, you’re not a fan of Christians?

1

u/deceptinomonom 5d ago

I live amongst you. I see how you all as a group treat people despite what your sky wizard laid forth. I've been told jokes by "good christian men" that required them to check nearby surroundings before uttering.

Your group has allowed itself to be overtaken and abused by folks who see how easily convinced you are (lol water to wine, parting of the seas, raining blood and frogs). And then we get to hear about how those that fell for it weren't real christians.

Since there's no real way to discern who is a real christian and who is a charlatan, you're all treated the same.

1

u/BrokenArrow1283 5d ago

And I would argue those are not true Christians. Your lack of reading comprehension is slightly concerning.

You’re clearly a bigot and a bigot that cannot read.

1

u/deceptinomonom 5d ago

Sounds like game recognize game big guy. 😄 Just wish y'all were cool like the Jehovah's Witnesses and refused things like blood transfusions.

u/Philly514 6d ago

It's most likely because the worst of us in government corrupt religion for their own purposes so people connect truly heinous acts with Christianity unfortunately. Most normal people won't bat an eye at your religion as long as you're good to people.

4

u/Lopsided-Tea-2586 6d ago

They definitely think less of you for being religious unfortunately. But at the same time if these people are this judgemental and negative it's nothing to lose sleep over. I would not wish to be friends with someone so relentlessly committed to seeking out negativity. Keep your head up and keep being yourself

2

u/MotoMongrel 5d ago

They don’t hate you. They just can’t understand how modern humans can engage in magical thinking based on pre-historic, primitive understandings of the world.

In other words, when we learn that someone believes in a supernatural sky daddy, we worry about the other myths they base their life on.

The part that says "idiot" to me is thanking god "MOST OF ALL" for "fixing" the problem he fucking caused.

What if dude being homeless was god's plan?

It's the audacity to deem whatever the human wants as god's will that pisses me off while still hand waving away baby cancer and genocide.

There is no loving god involved in this life and it's insane to play dumb about being disliked when the entire pretext of your religion is that you're the only right one and everyone else is going to hell for not believing in your best friend.

But then you don't want to deal with the baggage of the millions of other people that believed the same dumb shit for centuries before you.

u/Shnapple8 4d ago

Right? People are sickening.

It's okay to question religions and call out issues in their ideologies, it's really not okay to have a go at people because of their religions. Someone saying "God helped me" is not the same as someone preaching their ideology at someone. At which point you're allowed to question it, tear it apart, just not with personal attacks.

You don't have to respect religion. But you should respect people.

If they're being disrespectful by telling you you're going to Hell for not believing what they believe, or something, then it's fair game.

1

u/Triumph-TBird 6d ago

Some theories and it could be a combination of one or more of these:
1. They were raised to hate religion and have been shown only the few bad actors that paint the entire concept negatively.
2. They fall into the Reddit wave of thinking and assume that is the way to go.
3. They only care about karma.
4. And I really mean this, they are in fear of religion, faith, a higher power, confessing and submitting to such a power.
5. They fear death so it’s easier to make fun of and ridicule others who have a different view.
6. They are evil at heart.
7. They haven’t really experienced life altering events that can change a view of faith (like Paul and the Road to Damascus).
8. They are bots.
9. They lack maturity.
10. Someone who claimed to be religious hurt them and that forever altered their view of the concept.

5

u/mistermiajee 6d ago

I've always considered fear of death as a reason people are religious not vice versa.

That's all of them? Not a single other reason why someone might not be a fan of religion?

1

u/Financial-Finish1127 6d ago

Yea, I feel like they forgot some pretty big ones.

  1. There is no evidence for God's existence.

  2. The Christian god is not moral.

  3. People brought up in this cult are told that if they are intellectually honest with themselves they will be separated from thier loved ones and burn in eternal fire.

This person is one of my favorite kinds of apologists as well, the kind that actually believes they know your life story better than you.

5

u/blindyes 6d ago edited 6d ago

personally I've always preferred the term "impossible" over "insufferable" but I'm willing to adapt as long as that cult of CMs gets another nerve tweaked.

Also it paints the image that someone can't recover from addiction without becoming some generic man in recovery. They don't trust people who haven't submitted to their stereotype of "recovered man"

Good for him, but he's leaning conservative. You never see them talking about recovered punks or anyone alt and many people who have recovered are those that first sought out alternative lifestyles so it just reeks of false platitudes.

God has a plan for everyone so he PLANNED for this man to go through trauma...god did not help him.

You dont praise a firefighter for saving people from a fire he set...

Hair on the left is killin it, hair on the right is not killin it

3

u/Otherwise-Luck-6569 6d ago

Right? Be the guy on the right but look like the guy on the left. Unless you're looking for something else.

3

u/Sexy_b00p 6d ago

Glad he got clean and sober but his addiction hair is sexy AF.❤️‍🔥

3

u/Froggy_Style_Nice 6d ago

Lot of edge lords in here. I’m not religious in any sense but going out of your way to tell someone they’re wrong is stupid on both sides

6

u/JetLife93 6d ago

I love this! As a former addict I love this

28

u/Enoch-Of-Nod 6d ago

God also gave this person a heroin addiction.

4

u/InGod_WeThrust 6d ago

Not how free will works.

2

u/Aazimoxx 6d ago

How's all that childhood leukemia and bone cancer working out there buddy..? Gotta be the free will of those tumour cells I guess, huh.

6

u/trich1887 6d ago

All comments are about religion. I’m more focused on the fact he was a pretty damn attractive man when he was on heroin. Ugly as hell now

4

u/Imaginary_Waltz5261 6d ago

If you're clean AND sober. Put two bucks in the basket

6

u/that0nemook 6d ago

Why he look like GigaChad as an addict but looks soy when healthy and sober?

4

u/Hmonster1 6d ago

What did God do?

4

u/samkwilly 6d ago

Don't give God all the credit for your own hard work mate..

1

u/flappysnapper 6d ago

God had nothing to do with him getting clean, that was on him to do.

8

u/nuLanx 6d ago

That is true.. but sometimes, people need some kind of trigger to get them started to getting themselves better. And in this case, one of that reason is God.

2

u/SamboTheGr8 6d ago

Agreed. I hate whenever people thank God for a success operation or something but this was literally his own accomplishment. Why the fuck would you look at someone who turned themselves around and say their reason for doing so is wrong? It clearly worked for him

2

u/Thunder_breslin 6d ago

God didn't do shít, it was all you.

4

u/Bellethronn 6d ago

Thank you god? Lolll

2

u/AdOrnery836 6d ago

Congratulations buddy, I am 5 months sober, it's hard. Keep going!

-1

u/becomeister 6d ago

God has nothing to do with this, he managed to do that by being a strong willed real human

3

u/FarmhouseRules 6d ago

You can’t prove that. Thats just what you choose to believe. If the guy claims it was God, who are you to say it wasn’t.

1

u/Alive_Ice7937 6d ago

We can at least say that his faith helped him through. But that doesn't prove that God actually intervened.

2

u/PsychologicalGlass47 6d ago

...With the mentality of a religious person, which typically helps lift spirits and hold conviction to get better.

3

u/512115 6d ago

This is the way. Continued success and happiness!

2

u/DikDangerous 6d ago

God

Jajajajaja

1

u/5tr82hell 6d ago

Fuck God. Thank your support system.

2

u/ohioboi69 6d ago

Is it not possible that he believes his support system includes SFPD, Salvation Army, and his god?

2

u/FaerieQuene 6d ago

He praises god when he should really be proud of himself. He made his sobriety happen.

2

u/Cookielad14 6d ago

“…and most of all God”

Ugh.

-1

u/Cpt_Riker 6d ago

Wouldn't a kind and noble god have kept him clean?

6

u/biba_lila 6d ago

A kind and noble God keeping him clean would hve denied him free will, thus making him a slave.

2

u/Foreign-Drag-4059 6d ago

Wasn't that like, the plan? It was Eve eating the apple and introducing Sin to the world that actually gave humanity true free will? God didn't want humanity doing like, anything outside his carefully established intentions for them, then Eve broke the rules, and God kicked them out of Eden so they had to figure out survival on their own.

I could be wrong, its been what, nearly a decade and a half since I read the book, but that's my understanding of it. I'm not a fan of any organized religion, especially not Christianity. I think there's too much of a gap between what people say and do and what the book says.

God gave free will

0

u/Avocados_number73 6d ago

No you see, he had to learn from his suffering. Hes better know for it.

Just kidding thats fucking stupid and is what Christians think for some reason. If suffering is actually good long term, we have no reason to prevent suffering anymore. Why would you interfere with Gods plan?

4

u/Cpt_Riker 6d ago

Yeah. Mother Teresa believed suffering was redemptive, and the people who went to her for care died in pain. She had the best palliative care money could buy. People continue to defend her. It's as if religion makes people stupid, or stupider, depending on where they started.

How about you thank yourself for putting the work in, instead of some magical fairy in the sky. Unreal that people still have to fall back on religion, I cant believe it's healthy to believe in children's tales your entire life.

6

u/RandallJoPhotography 6d ago

Can you not just let people be happy and content with their beliefs? Just because you don't believe in someone's religion doesn't mean you have to shit on it.

1

u/Dry_Instruction8254 6d ago

Because it's propaganda. It isn't harmless. Is it ok to entice people into a cult? Same fucking thing, this cult is just thousands of years old.

3

u/kaerfdeeps 6d ago

I dont understand it either. If God creates my own path my actions doesnt matter. It is all planned. Simple logic

2

u/kaerfdeeps 6d ago

Yet people judge the simplest things you do, which is a sin and against the system that god created

1

u/Game_Over_7 6d ago

And Reddit is supposed to be a place where you respect other people's opinions or life choices but I guess it only counts if they're choices you approve hum... Here you can identify as a cat and that will be alright but if you believe in God that's where you draw the line. Interesting.

3

u/Dry_Instruction8254 6d ago

It's propaganda to recruit other sick people to join their cult. It has real consequences. Go get diddled by a priest you biggot.

In this case it is literally healthy since it helped him get sober. Would it be better for him to still be in the throes of addiction, hurting everyone around him, but solidly atheist?

4

u/Dry_Instruction8254 6d ago edited 6d ago

And the next time he fucks up and depends on God. BS, these are not long term coping tools for any rational human being.

1

u/Excellent_Main_1415 6d ago

Wow how will this play out when he learns the truth, it could be death row ffs 🤔

-2

u/United-Teacher7474 6d ago

Make sure the people who actually helped you play second fiddle to god though. Pleased for him not so pleased for his reasoning

5

u/FarmhouseRules 6d ago

How dare you judge his experience. Who cares if you’re pleased about his reasoning. How insanely arrogant.

1

u/xRaY_Koala 6d ago

He thanked god last behind the SFPD and Salvation Army so god actually played third fiddle in your weird comparison

Keep moving forward and congratulations

1

u/yonghybonghybo1 6d ago

Good for you! You look so much healthier and happier. It is so hard to let go of destructive behaviour. Be proud of your accomplishment.

1

u/WHYlSTHERUMGONE 6d ago

Props to anyone who makes it out of addiction. That’s such a hard battle to fight man. My soul hurts for the people still struggling.

I want to do more as an individual to help

1

u/Capable-Grocery686 6d ago

It’s an unfortunate truth that a PD may well be involved in getting you sober. I would guess he went through rehab + 12 step, so no names can be used.

1

u/sergedg 6d ago

Well done!

1

u/chalkybone 6d ago

Salvation army helped me when I was homeless. Such a great charity that genuinely helps those in need of it.

1

u/Sugelanren777 6d ago

It’s almost enough to make me take up Heroin.

1

u/Frosty-Image7705 5d ago

It was his will & external assistance that lead him to recovery.

1

u/GoldWingANGLICO 5d ago

Congratulations on a significant achievement. One day at a time.

1

u/SuckMyBigPoop 5d ago

Glad the guy is out now and keeping busy. Convicted serial rapist or not, he seems like a good fellow.

1

u/MotoMongrel 5d ago

As long as the lord forgives prostitution, dude is ok.

1

u/micha1213 5d ago

Likely planted by the Salvation Army

1

u/Sopwith53 5d ago

God bless you and keep you!

1

u/MoistToaster60 4d ago

God did nothing to help you.

1

u/External-Librarian71 8h ago

Is it bad to say he was hotter before he got clean….

1

u/Initial-Summer-4453 6d ago

Anyone else think he looked way more badass as a heroine addict?

5

u/Zikkan1 6d ago

The new hairstyle isn't very good imo. He should have kept the rough hairstyle

2

u/Status_Commercial509 6d ago

The stubble in the left picture looks better too.

0

u/DangerousDisplay7664 6d ago

It honestly bothers me how entwined religion has made itself with addiction and recovery.

There is no god. Your actions and behaviour have nothing to do with a higher power. YOU have the skills and ability to do anything YOU want all on your own if you put your mind to it! With the help of the PEOPLE around you. Normal, human people.

YOU are the writer of your own story!

1

u/InfiniteOctave 6d ago

You are not wrong in that recovery and religion are industries. But, you don't seem to understand psychology. Placebo works 50% of the time.

1

u/DangerousDisplay7664 5d ago

I understand psychology enough to get a degree in it. What do you have? I also understand religion and how it preys on the vulnerable and milks them dry!

1

u/mrnonamex 6d ago

Honestly I think it’s because they’re easy targets. Religion seems to target easy targets

2

u/DangerousDisplay7664 5d ago

Exactly my point!

'god' dont have shit to do with his comeback. It's all him, his own strength and the PEOPLE who where here for him. Not some fucking imaginary omniscient and omnipotent being.

2

u/Majestic-Ad4074 6d ago

Good for him.

I hate it when these people say "thank god", can you tell me when God had to attend group therapy, piss in a cup, take methadone/bupenorphine?

He didn't? Stop fucking thanking him then - this is all you.

Thank yourself.
