Is crazy drumming like in Where strides the Behemoth real?
Was listening to Where Strides the Behemoth by Mastodon last night. The drumming in that song is crazy. Is it actually real? Like can someone realistically play that?

Yes it is very real. Brain Dailor is one of the best drummers alive. An absolute beast. He is immensely talented and plays multiple instruments, has multiple writing credits for Mastodon. And the dude fucking sings and plays the parts live (though from his own admission he sometimes dumbs the fills down when he's playing live and singing at the same time)

I can’t imagine being that good. I know enough about drums to usually visualize what’s going on but this song is too fast for me lol.

Yes, Brann Dailor is a beast or a drummer. Any number of tech-death and jazz fusion drummers are similarly total animals behind the drum kit.

There’s nothing physically hugely demanding going, its more that its frenetic in its changes and super inventive

If you think he’s impressive, check out John Longstreth. He has some drum play videos on YouTube. Guy is a fucking machine.

It might seem fake because most extreme drummers are using triggers. It gives their drums, especially the kick, a very clear sound. But they're still actually playing it.
