What is the most useful Heavy Metal Substack?

It's been a while since I'm looking for the most useful substack account about Metal but I can only find extreme metal publications about new releases. Don't get me wrong they are really useful if you are extreme metal fan and you listen more than 20 albums per week, but for the rest of us who want to solve the problem of too many options to listen they are not useful at all.

I am looking for an account that filters the huge amount of releases and recommends the best of the best if that is possible.

Is there anything like that?

I'm rather leaning towards the guy who listens to 20 new albums per week (not necessarily metal though), but I usually just scour through RYM and special interest groups on reddit or discord for new albums that look interesting. I feel like a lot of very cool stuff just gets lost during curation. "Best" is quite subjective anyway, and what I'm looking for is not necessarily what such a curator/reviewer values equally high.

That being said, if you just want to listen to a select few metal albums per year that a community considers "the best", you could check the top metal albums on rym for any given year.

I totally undertand you.

I was the guy how used to listen 20 new albums per week and I didn't want to miss anything.

That's why I discover pretty early that the "Top Best Albums List" from popular magazines were crap most of the time. Probably because those magazines were getting paid from labels an promotors.

Then I discovered RYM, MetalStorm and Metal-archives and check their Rankings. I completed most of them and discovered the flaws and biases of those communities. Even though, if you know how to use those tools properly and spend some time they are an amazing source of good guidance, but still far from perfection.

I know there are good reviewers and curators that do that work for you, they are extremely useful and they don't miss the cool things (that's why they are good). Usually they are focus on one or two subgenres only and you can not compare between different genres. That is what I am looking for. I know is difficult but I do it because it's valuable, it's useful, and I know the time is short and it's impossible to listen to everything.

Maybe my METAL playlist on youtube? It has prog, death, djent, thall, and alot more. Pretty much just a list of the heaviest bands I know, with a couple of my fav songs from each band.

I've just checked it out.

Is there a reason for selecting those songs, or are they simply songs you like?

I know a lot of them. I love some of them. But I would like to know why are they there.
