I've only ever been to metal shows, but any friction I've ever had with another human being at one of those shows were always just that one guy who is either going way too hard or is quadruple-fucked on something.

Hearing horror stories about other genres n stuff make me more grateful for the way a metal crowd usually is

I feel the same. Most of the humblest people i know are metal heads.

As a metalhead, I am SO humble

People get out of line and we can't fault them for mistakes, they pay the consequences and improve or they don't, but we always extend that branch when they're ready to do better! Alcohol and drugs, like you say, are a bad combo that happen, too.

Dethklok had a whole bit in the middle of their show about how to not be an asshole at metal shows. I'll take MachineHead over Kanye any day

Lol, I remember that! Some skull that reminded me of the DNA stand in Jurassic Park

I saw Pantera live with Vinnie and Diamond, and I lost count of how many times I was picked up off the floor! Thank you, my unknown metal friends...

One of the scariest pits I've ever been in was a Pantera pit in the 90s. Was certain I was going to be trampled to death so many times but people kept on picking me up, thankfully.

One gigantic hulk of a dude picked my skinny ass up by my belt and chucked me over his head in the air like he was throwing a baby lol

Everybody stopped the pit and drew attention to the guy holding up my watch that had been knocked off while I was moshing until I saw it and got it back and started windmilling with the guy.

I'm also an often scantily clad lady and never once felt unsafe in the pit or at a show in general in my 39 years of life. I've taken my kids to metal shows. Regardless of if it's a big name band or a local band, those who play and attend metal shows are truly the best of humanity.

I dunno, I feel like people who listen to music like metal are more likely not to keep negative vibes inside. A lot of metal heads I've known are just the most mellow, chill people.

Recently saw Nails, Exodus, Carcass and Kreator. There’s was this kid of maybe like 12 years old. Spent the whole night crowdsurfing. Everybody loved it, just seeing how much fun the kid was having. Everyone made sure he would never fall down.

I just had a friendly interaction at the liquor store. Dude was playing A Tribe Called Quest. And we shot the shit a little about how good of an album it is. All that to say almost every metalhead I’ve ever known loves hip-hop.

People at metal shows are humble and fanatic but sometimes also crazy in a way others would be apalled, i saw Obituary in 2008 and there was this big dude slowly jumping forward and moshing in a circle pit, then there was this big girl who was moshing and running in the same pit. In a second the girl moshed her head forward as she came right behind the dude who pulled his head backwards and smashed the girls face, she broke her nose and was bleeding everywhere but thought ”fuck it” and just continued running and moshing while flying blood everywhere

Best thing i have ever seen

I’ve been to so many different genre of concerts over the years, but every time I go to a metal or a rock concert, they’re always the best.  At my first one, someone in front of me lost their keys, so instead of the pit head banging everyone got on the ground to look for the keys. They were found in five minutes. My latest concert was at a small venue with a tilted/slanted pit. Someone fell and rolled during the opening act and was stepped on. A bunch of people immediately rushed to help her, so much so that the band stopped the show while she was helped out of the pit.

I know they aren’t metal, but Chester Benington said  it best: “what do we do if someone falls? We pick them up”

Still to this day the most chaotic show ive been to was a 311 show in Springfield MO. Multiple fights happened. Then a girl crowd surfing fell right in front of us onto her neck and stumbled away. She came back through help up by her friends convulsing. Metal shows have always been chill with controlled chaos.

When I saw Metallica last year, everyone saved my spot in front of the stage when I had a fainting spell.

The metal crowd is usually great at looking out for people, and the musicians will help out sometimes by spotting something/giving directions.

I think it was a Spiritbox show where someone fainted closer to the middle of the pit, and they were passed to the front (as it was the closest side of the pit) in a matter of 20 seconds before they even had a chance to wake up.

There is no better community than the metal community.

What's so funny as I get older and understand this more is that life is all about love and fun and kindness and all of the good things. That is extended to sharing our expressions of human experience. Saw Mastodon last night with Deafheaven and Alcest and while Deafheaven was the main reason I went, the outpouring of love from Mastodon has me a fan for life. They are such sweet people. All the bands I've ever loved have been this way but I didn't feel so connected to it until the love within me started revealing itself more, solidifying and growing. I love you all! We'll get through this thing together!

My first ever concert I went to I decided to mosh with my friend (mind you he is skin and bone), I could handle myself in the pit but he was getting flung like a balloon getting blown by a fan. Didn't help that the biggest guy knocked him from one side of the pit to the other lol. I also got to crowdsurf and see my best bud crowdsurf on stage! Will never forget that day, I appreciate everyone who was at that concert making my night and his a blast!
