Game Help THIS SPIDER BOSS IS THE BANE OF MY EXISTENCE
I’m playing metroid fusion, my first ever metroid game and this spider is body slamming the life out of me. I can not win. Nothing in this game has been hard, until now. It’s like the difficulty jumped from easy to impossible
Edit: Thank you all! 15 attempts and I finally beat it. The tips are greatly appreciated, I’m loving this game ❤️

You should by now have a looooot more E-Tanks
But fret not. You can do this. Use missiles or your charge beam to shoot diagonally in its mouth when it opens it to fire fire.
Avoid its DVD logo attack by simply going into the morph ball. The corners are the safest usually.
If yakuza grabs you wiggle the dpad like crazy.
In its space jump phase, just continue doing what you did with the mouth strategy but look out for the falling larva
This is one of th few bosses where I would say you can use save states as a newbie. The ship is way to frustatingly far away
Also to remove the NSO emulator text on the bottom you can remove it in the emulators setting on the game select menu

u/DalaxerYT Jun 18 '26
These are good tips, I’ll put them to use. I’m on attempt 10 right now and the run back is arguably the worst part. BUT I GOT THIS, THANKS 🙏
edit: using save state is basically cheating in my brain so i won’t allow myself to use it 😭

u/Round_Musical Sequence Breaker Jun 18 '26
Its okay imo. Since in future Metroid games, bosses have check points before them
I know how hard this fight can be since I struggled as a kid and now as an adult on 1% runs. I cant blame new playerst for using save states before this boss fight despite me growing up in a time where it wasnt possible

u/ScootDeToot Jun 19 '26
I guess I took it for granted that it's obvious to me how to avoid the DVD logo attack because I learned early on as a kid "the trick" to avoid Spore Spawn.

u/MakutaMutran Jun 18 '26
There should be a save station closer to the boss battle than the ship. It's at the very bottom left of the core reactor room, I think. (I played Fusion as a kid and just recently happened to do another playthrough on NSO...this part was hard for me, too!)
But yes - if you keep struggling it wouldn't be a bad idea to get more energy tanks.
Welcome to Metroid, and I'm glad you're playing Fusion!
7
u/MBT808 Jun 18 '26
There isn’t because the stations main power went down at this point in fusions story. The next save point isn’t until after the boss at the bottom of the reactor area.
5
u/MakutaMutran Jun 18 '26
Oh, ok. Thanks for the correction. On my playthrough last week I figured I just missed the room and found it later, so I was trying to recommend that one.
But even if I had found it, I do remember now that it's powered down from my younger run.
3
u/AdvantaJeous Jun 18 '26
I think it's made so players don't get stuck down there with not enough resources. At least if they respawn at the ship, they can go try to gear up more.
4
u/Round_Musical Sequence Breaker Jun 18 '26
Not possible since the entirety of the BSL is powered down and basically inaccessible.
So no backtracking.
The boss however is designed to be beatable with 1% seeing that the japanese versions feature 2 endings for 1%.
It just boils down to skill unfortunately.
More resources allow more room for error, and less, less
3
u/AdvantaJeous Jun 18 '26
True. I forgot about the powered down ship. I do agree this is the game's first big skill check

u/maukenboost Jun 19 '26
Gotta say, when the boss is that frustrating, the boss is cheating you, cheat it back (in the future).

Crouch in corner, diagonal missiles into mouth. Morph when he gets close, repeat.

u/DalaxerYT Jun 18 '26
I beat it LETS GOOO

u/surgingchaos Justin Bailey Jun 18 '26
Congrats! Yakuza (the actual name of the spider) is a notorious "noob stomper" boss in Fusion. Rest assured, you're not the first person to struggle against him.
3
u/Headstar24 Jun 19 '26
My thing to add onto this is maybe spam some missiles into his mouth when he opens it.

6
u/flippingchicken Jun 18 '26
Sit on the left hand side in crouch/morph ball and keep your finger on the left trigger to keep your aim diagonal so you can nail some missiles when he opens his mouth to fire.

u/Livid-Truck8558 Jun 18 '26
Bro has not been exploring 😭
3
u/DalaxerYT Jun 18 '26
I TRY BRO. Some of these E Tanks are hidden very well.
3
u/Livid-Truck8558 Jun 18 '26
You can usually backtrack in between story beats! But yes the difficulty takes a spike here and will no longer let up on the gas

3
u/monkeymetroid Jun 18 '26
Make sure to utilize morph ball in the corner to fully avoid some attacks. Whenever they wink, head to a corner and try to predict when the innards come out to attack. You got this!

Samus just put the spider to rest 💪 And that’s comforting. I try to explore but some of the E Tanks seem hard to find without a guide.

u/gfewfewc Jun 18 '26
This boss is pretty hard and the runback is brutal. Once you beat it make sure you save right away, then fill up your energy very carefully because the kihunters hit like a truck. You're going to need that health very soon after, trust me.

u/D-D-Wanderer oh word Jun 18 '26
Hey fun fact for future runs, when you first drop in to the room and Yakuza (actual spider name, most metal boss in the game) begins charging up the very first fire spread of the fight off-screen, he's actually just above your visual range in the middle of the arena and can be shot at just like during the actual fight. I'm not 100% certain this is actually real, but it's always felt like shooting him during that timeframe deals more damage - and even if not, it's a free couple rounds of damage before having to worry about the DVD logo nonsense.
Nice work clearing him, we'll look forward to seeing you again shortly for either Nettori or Nightmare.
2
u/DalaxerYT Jun 18 '26
Nettori was annoying, then I learned how to dodge the spores. Now I’m on nightmare and struggling
2
u/D-D-Wanderer oh word Jun 19 '26
Which part of Nightmare are you struggling with? Might be able to drop a tip or two.
2
u/DalaxerYT Jun 19 '26
i already beat the game. nightmare wasn’t hard i just had to dodge better
2
u/D-D-Wanderer oh word Jun 19 '26
Yeah, he's got a pretty heavy emphasis on timing and spacing, even for a Fusion boss.
1% run is next right?
3
u/urneverwhereueverwer Jun 18 '26
Yeah, screw this guy. I had the same experience. Even everything after him wasn’t as hard for me as he was.

u/FrozenMorningstar Jun 18 '26
God I don't even want to know how many attempts this boss took me first time I played. :/ I just know I was about to throw my gba across the room lol
3
u/Affectionate-Gain-23 Jun 18 '26
Yup. This guy was also the bane of my existence. The amount of tears I let out over the amount times that stupid spider killed me was too much. Lol.
3
u/Korugar1417 Jun 18 '26
I remember getting stuck at this motherfucker on my very first playthrough when the game came out in 2002. Bastard made me throw my GBA against the wall. It was the original GBA, so the fucking batteries and shit flew all over the place. This was literally the only boss or game that ever made me throw a handheld at a wall.
2
u/DalaxerYT Jun 18 '26
After my experience with him today, that’s a totally valid reaction. HE JUST KEPT CHOKE SLAMMING ME BRO
3
u/Yung_Beast_Boy Jun 19 '26
Ngl, I don’t have any crazy advice for this fight. It’s so buns. I struggled but eventually did it but I believe you can do it too ! 🙂↕️ don’t give up !

u/deadlypenguin7 Jun 19 '26
Yakuza and nightmare are leagues above the rest in the game. The security bot can be tough too. Otherwise its definitely an easier title in the series. Best atmosphere by far
2
u/kane899 Jun 18 '26
Ah, some things never change. I remember tearing my hair out on this boss on my first play through back when it came out. As others have said, corners in morphball are your friend. When he shoots fire, I stick as close to the corner as I can without getting burnt.

Man I beat it for my first time ever last week, it was a pain in my morphin ball.
2
u/ChristopherEv Jun 18 '26
This is the only fight I had to look up a video of. I’m an adult and played this as a kid and still needed to watch someone do the left corner strategy to finally get it.
2
u/Groundbreaking_Bag8 Jun 18 '26
It feels more frustrating than it actually is because of the distance from the last save point.
Just make a restore point before you enter the door to it's room.

I know I'm late but my best method has been to immediately dump missiles straight up the middle of the screen the moment you hear him charging his first fire attacks. Like other mentioned, stay in the corners after that. It's a tough fight for sure and it was also my first major roadblock as a kid. I also tend to crouch when unmorphing and when you're in the final phase get in the center again and just dump all your missiles, if you have any left by then.
I vividly remember that backtracking sucked and as an an arachnophobe it was an annoying fight, so I REALLY learned this fight.

Use a charged Rolling Shield to kill the baby spiders, avoid being hit directly by the boss, use Shotgun Ice or a fully charged Buster Shot to the eye when it opens u---AAHHH FUCK WRONG GAME
Nice work OP! You and everyone else posting Fusion is making me really want to do another playthrough.
(if you ever do need to beat Bospider in Mega Man X without taking damage, this is good advice fwiw)

I remember having a real hard time with it as a kid, but i seriously don't really get this reputation it has, a lot seem to think it's pretty brutal, i think it's a little challenging but not that hard.

Yeah the spider boss is hard as hell i remember when I was younger I dreaded this boss i literally annoyed my brother to beat it for me

u/throws_RelException Jun 19 '26
Once you figure it out, it's really easy. Unfortunately it took 9 year old me like 5 years to figure it out

I hated this one and the one that looks like a condom just as much
1
u/Captain-Jack-Pyroy Jun 25 '26
Condom? I don't remember a boss like that. Describe it.
2
u/Terrible_Gear_4069 Jun 25 '26
It was the one in sector 2 that just jumped and tried to get you under it and you had to shoot in from under it before it landed. a condom was the only way I could think of at the time to describe it
1
u/Captain-Jack-Pyroy Jun 25 '26
Oooh!! That boss. It's actually more annoying than difficult. That being said, it's Ai can be easily exploited if you know what you are doing.
The Ai pathfinding is very simple.
Phase 1: it slowly shuffles towards you and jumps occasionally only when you are nearby. This is the hardest part because it can trap you by the wall if you don't get it to jump in time. Arm your missiles in advanced, shoot it once when it jumps up to glide down and move to the other side before it lands.
Phase 2: it shrinks, getting lighter and faster as well as jumping more often. As long as you can get it to jump often enough you can avoid be trapped by the wall. Just morphball under it when it jumps if you need to. It requires really precise timing though. Otherwise just shoot it in its mouth when it glides down.
Phase 3: This is the easiest part. Not only it it small enough to jump over but it opens it's mouth every time that it jumps. Get it to jump and shoot away. Dodge. Rinse and repeat.
Phase 4: Core X. I stand corrected. THIS IS THE EASIEST PART! Once you reach this part, you basically won. Shoot it with your beam to force it to make yellow and green X parasites that you can absorb to restore health and ammo. And yes, you can do this with EVERY Core X. Even the beam ones. After that just shoot it with a missle, dodge, rinse and repeat. It's super simple once you get the dodging rhythm.

u/Terrible_Gear_4069 Jun 25 '26
I beat it forever ago it was just so annoying until I finally got the hang of it I died like 13 times
1
u/samination Jun 21 '26
Of all the bosses i remember having issues with with originally, this one is one i never have issues with on replays. The speedbooster boss i worse if you ask me
1
u/Captain-Jack-Pyroy Jun 25 '26
Serras is super easy. Just stay on the ceiling ladder when you are not trying to pelt it in the face. Only dropping down if you see it coming. There's also a spot that you can stand in that serras can't hit you from.
1
u/redrum822 Jun 21 '26
Get good!
In all seriousness though it’s just like most bosses in this game. There are distinct patterns they will follow or ways they will go after Samus that you need to learn and recognize. A few more play throughs on the game or fights against him and he will be cake. I used to have a similar issue with one of the infamous later bosses of the game. Now that boss is cake for me.
1
u/Captain-Jack-Pyroy Jun 25 '26
This is the hardest boss in the game. This is not like other bosses at all.
1
u/Captain-Jack-Pyroy Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26
I'm glad I'm not the only one who acknowledges that this is CLEARLY the hardest boss in the game. And it's not even close. Even now, I struggle to beat this thing and I've been playing for years.
My top 5 toughest bosses:
Nightmare (Constant screen shakes)
Box second battle (NO ENTRY WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION!!!)
Ridley X (ROAR!!!! THAT STUPID GOLD SPACE PIRATE!!!)
That freaking plant boss. Nettori I think. (THE SPORES!!! THE SPORES ARE EVERYWHERE!!!)
1.THAT FREAKING EVIL AH SPIDER YAKUZA!!! (GIVE ME SOME SPACE AND STOP SHOOTING ME!!)

u/Minimum-Astronaut986 23d ago
Yeah this boss is among the worst pieces of game design I ever had to witness had a blast until now. Even beat him but couldn’t save afterwards, died and now I’m stuck here again. Just bullshit

DVD logo attack, never think of that 🤣
