Game Help I think I'm stuck in super Metroid?
Path is blocked in one way and door is inaccessible. Did I mess up my game?

u/kazoodac Jun 25 '26
God bless the noob bridge. Don’t worry OP. You weren’t the first, and certainly won’t be the last. We’ve all been there! Now keep exploring and enjoy one of the best games the SNES has to offer!

u/oSyphon Jun 25 '26
The funny thing is, I've beaten this game like 5 years ago but completely forgot the sprint button lol. I thought sprint is what you use to engage the speed boost skill but I didn't get that so didn't think any of it
75
u/KingGalaxyKnight Jun 25 '26
I think if you havent played a game at all in 5 years and thus remember nothing about it you can recplaim the title of Noob, there isnt anything bad in being a noob some people just enjoy using it in a mean way

u/SlayerS13Reddit Jun 25 '26
There’s a fucking SPRINT BUTTON? I’ve been stuck there and quit 3ds virtual console (well my b button is also dying) for a few months now and there was always a SPRINT BUTTON?
8
u/roberttheaxolotl Jun 25 '26
Yes, and it's a very necessary button to use. You need it to get past this bridge, and you need it to use the speed booster/sparkshine.
2
u/SlayerS13Reddit Jun 25 '26
I thought you needed shinespark to get over the bridge. I’ve only played Metroid fusion before this 😭
1
u/roberttheaxolotl Jun 25 '26
It's been years since I've played the GBA Metroid games, but I feel like you just run by holding in a direction, as there are only two face buttons. I should dust off my carts and play Fusion and Zero Mission again.
1
u/RobbWes Jun 29 '26
If you have switch online or know how to emulate you have more modern ways to play those.

1
u/Informal_Bus4945 Jul 10 '26
Yeah, and each weapon upgrade if turned on by itself has a special function if you over charge it. Something else they didn't state anywhere.
2
u/Musekal Jun 25 '26
So on this run, have you played through the game all this way without the sprint button?
0
u/PantySausage Jun 25 '26
Until this section, most people do. How would anyone know about something the game doesn’t tell you, and that you’ve had no incentive to discover before this.
2
u/nnaatteedd Jun 25 '26
Yeah, how are we supposed to know what the buttons do, it's not like they included an instruction manual and customizable controller options in the menu 🙄

I played the game for the first time 2 years ago and asked a random YouTube channel for help lol. I didn’t know there was a name for it.

The noob bridge strikes again.
Keep in mind the buttons and controls for the game. You'll notice that there's a run button. Lol

u/SpiralMaster21 Jun 25 '26
I had this issue for so long, funny to see I’m not the only one

u/anniemaephorn Jun 25 '26
As a kid I was stuck here too. THEN I got the Wii U version in my adult years and was still stuck here too. Thanks to the Miiverse(i miss that service and wish nintendo would bring it back for the switch), someone told me there was a run button.

I started on the GBA Metroids. The run button messed with my head when I first played Super
5
u/MetroidJunkie Jun 25 '26
It's easy to miss, since Super Metroid is basically the only one in the series that has manual running.

u/ValueBASEDLiving Jun 25 '26
I used to casually speedrun the game and noob bridge got me again literally last year.
3
u/nhSnork Jun 25 '26
I once managed to forget the run button even in Lightning Returns (granted, playing a game twice a month will do that to you), which led to some Benny Hill shaming chase sequences between Lightning and aggressive omega critters I struggled to handle at the time.😅

FYI for the future, games made before… maybe 2005(?) are intended to come with a game manual to read before playing. You can find a PDF online easily if you look it up.
You don’t really need to read a manual for all games, but a lot of the time controls and some lorebits are in the manual that they expected you to read instead of in-game. Most mainline Metroids are before non-manual gaming so a lot of lorebits tend to be in the manuals.
4
u/DefiantCharacter Jun 25 '26
As long as you check the options before starting a new game there is no need to read the game manual in this case.
6
u/Flerken_Moon Jun 25 '26
Yeah but the lore tidbits are nice, especially when you learn them at the same pace people would’ve learned them at the time.
Like there’s small stuff like learning enemy names, small tips, controls, and then there’s stuff like learning “Metroid” means Ultimate Warrior from the Fusion manual. Or learning the statues are from a species called the Chozo in Super. Or learning Samus was raised on Zebes in Zero Mission manual.
Some things are implied in game, but it’s easier to catch and adds more when you read the manual first. We know the info because we’ve been playing Metroid for a while, but manuals are the main way they gave lore and control info to new players for decades.
2
u/Academic-Push-6454 Jun 25 '26
I still maintain that Ridley was never meant to be a dragon-thing, based on the 1986 Manual. Not sure what came first, the art or the sprite coding, but he looked WAY more like a Xenomorph in the manual art. But he opened his mouth in the original game, the eyes down the sides of his face became teeth, and the rest is canon.
3
u/xtellarfb_ Shinespark Enthusiast Jun 25 '26
I'm playing Fusion rn, and first thing i did was to read the manual lmao. I won't fall for the noob bridge again 👎
1
u/Character-Room9200 Jun 27 '26
Theres a control layout on the start screen too depending on op version would of told em b button is run but meh he figured it out 😂😂😂

3
u/oSyphon Jun 25 '26
It's my second time lmfao
1
u/Character-Room9200 Jun 27 '26
Bro how you make it through first time and not remember....I immediately found run first time from morph ball room first play through and there's a control layout on start screen sounds like your bad saying this is second time...so did you not scroll down to control layout on the start game screen like EVER? I have never fallen off this bridge. It tells you about the run button on every version Super Metroid especially on the Super Nintendo version og game it was never hard to know what button was run. I used mario logic when I played og SM literally knew run in morph bomb upgrade room which is first place you go before this bridge room. Run in Mario is b so is true in Super Metroid. Hated losing run in future Metroid games.
1
u/oSyphon Jun 27 '26
I did change the controls for y to shoot and b to jump, I didn't really know what run was for. Thought it was to engage the speed boost.
1
u/Character-Room9200 Jun 27 '26
It is that too. If you hit down can shinespark too. That's funnier the more ya give info wise. You saw the screen saw the button have played before and still fell...I'm sorry this is too funny. I'm glad you figured it out though.
6
u/cptjaydvm Jun 25 '26
The noob bridge has been perplexing players since 1994. That’s just great level design.
6
u/philkid3 Jun 25 '26
I always wonder if these are real or engagement farming.
→ More replies (1)7
u/oSyphon Jun 25 '26
Bro, I'm playing all the games in chronological order and didn't realize the sprint button was a thing. Give me another Metroid game with a sprint button.
I'll wait
3
u/philkid3 Jun 25 '26
No, you’re not the first person and you won’t be the last.
But it’s also so common it’s become a cliche and makes me wonder each time I see it.
4
u/Veit1991 Jun 25 '26
I kinda agree with the previous comment. The noob bridge is one of the most well known elements and I would always check what each button does when I start such a game anyway.
No offense though. I believe you and am actually glad that you go through this game blind. Have fun!

Thanks bro, the battery is kinda fucking up on it but it's the lcd model. I think I got the 512GB one
1
u/candymannequin Jun 25 '26
yeah i feel like the battery is in pretty rough shape on mine by now too. it never lasted that long on newer games anyways. but i'll definitely do a battery swap when the time comes.

Same. This thing is awesome. I'm traveling right now and having super Metroid to play is so cool

I got stuck on this part too on my first playthrough bro for nearly an hour😭
None of the previous metroids I had played before this had a run button so how was i supposed to know there was a run button without looking at the controls menu

The noob bridge claims another victim. I don't know what your keybinds are, but the default for either Y or X is the run button.

Correct way, aquire the speed boots, come back, just run over the bridge.
Sneaky way, but requires good timing and maybe a lot of reload. Run toward the first closing door "RUN" not walk like you do, morphball and roll to the end. Aquire the next update, before you should officially get it :)

I played Super a lot in the 90ies then did not play it at all for maybe 20 years and picked it up again recently. This is where the noob bridge got me. Reading through the comments here makes me feel a lot better lol

I still hate that this is the only 2D Metroid game with a run button (that isn't Speed Booster) so WHY THE FUCK WOULD I THINK TO HOLD A BUTTON TO RUN WHEN THAT'S NOT A THING IN ANY OTHER GAME
1
u/KingSideCastle13 Jun 25 '26
At least you didn’t pull a Gaffe and declare the game “crap” because of it

Nobody's Son Samus
🎶Here we go again, on the Noob Bridge, what a familiar feeling.
All my friends say "run", but I'm the one left mentally reeling.
Probably shoulda guessed, that buttons pressed, but now I'm left here seething.
Nothing left for me, except to read, the comments I'm receeeeeeeiving!
That Bridge fucked me up, thought I'd try and just outlast it.
But threw my hands up, knew I wasn't getting past it.🎵

The Noob Bridge will stay forever in Metroid lore. Along with the Jaffe room
1
u/CCF_100 Jun 25 '26
When I started playing the "Super Metroid Ascent" romhack and first encountered the room named "Samus can run", I immediately thought of this room from the vanilla game 😂
Good hack btw, I'm really enjoying it :3

Aww that's cute being all "stuck" like that.
Don't worry you'll get it 😉

u/AdvantaJeous Jun 25 '26
It's funny because there's a speedrun category that bans the use of running altogether, so this bridge is one of the main gatekeepers for that category.

Ah... the noob bridge... my greatest enemy for 2 whole days until I gave in and looked it up... and learned that the game had a run button. For reference, I tried to just short hop across the whole thing for an entire day. Didn't work at all. Tried to damage boost with the crab enemies, didn't work... then I got so fucking mad when I learned the rub button.

I replay all of them constantly and recently by passed a lot of things by bomb jumping a it to far ahead into the game just to see what would happen and eventually ended up having to back track but it was fun to switch it up, i finished prime 4 the other day, it was cool but not my favorite
1
u/Dothacker00 Jun 26 '26
Its called Noob Bridge but tbf you gotta read the manual to see the power ups and button combos or you'll miss vital stuff. Devs partly did that to mess you up if you rented the game back in the day. Its a button you gotta press
1
u/No_Anteater_6110 Jun 26 '26
You Need speed booster, though the tech wiz can sprint and use morphball to get past thier
1
1
u/Ok-Barracuda457 Jun 26 '26
There's a run button you use only for boost in like 3 hours of gameplay
1
u/Real-Jackfruit-7151 Jun 27 '26
You need an upgrade that you get in Norfair; it's best to go for the first mini-boss, the Spazer, and the boots to find Kraid's lair.

Fun fact, the main screen cinematic that loops has this area and you can get a hint.
