So every time I go through the second tower I always get stuck here, and it's really frustrating because it's like 20+ minutes per attempt to get back here

In their defense (and my indictment) the first metroid i played was metroid zero mission where you cannot morph ball jump without a powerup. I played most of my first prime game (3 I think because i had just gotten a wii) just bomb jumping because I just assumed I could not jump in ball form.
I think i was getting pissed at a puzzle and flung my arms around, as a child does, and thats how I discovered you could jump in prime 3 by flicking the remote upwards. I had spent the whole game up to that point bomb jumping.
7
u/poke_fan2468 20d ago
When I first played Dread I got stuck for way too long because I didnât realize I could jump in morph ball right away. I thought Iâd need spring ball
3
u/The_Rider_11 20d ago
Isn't the morph ball jump powerup unlocked with the bomb simultaneously? I could swear that's how it works in Prime 4, but maybe I'm confusing with another game.
1
u/Nathanymous_ 20d ago
I'm too broke for a switch 2 and sold my switch lite after beating metro i'd dread a few times. so couldn't tell you about prime 4. And prime 3 was so long ago I dont know if it was unlocked with the bomb or at the start. From other comments I think its actually unlocked at the start of prime 3 but you jump by flicking the remote and dummies like me just never tried that.

u/Dauntless_Lasagna 19d ago
In the og prime and prime 2, jump sphere was not a thing, it got retroactively added in the Metroid prime trilogy for Nintendo Wii.

People do not. They'll take the time to record and post a clip to reddit to ask for help as opposed to just, trying out buttons that exist on the controller.
It's been a problem for over a decade and it's deeply annoying.

Just... don't hold right when trying to jump up the ledge until you're at the top. You're just pushing yourself against the wall as you jump, causing friction, slowing you down, and making your jumps/bombjumps shorter.

It took me about half the game to learn you can jump normally in morph ball without having to find it as an upgrade just because I never tried pressing x or what ever button it was to jump, the game just expects you to know that.
35
u/r_lind3r Dread Mode survivor 20d ago
Yeah it doesn't, but the Spring Ball is unlocked at the same time as the Psychic Bomb. It shows up in your inventory so if you checked it like it suggests when you get a new ability, you'd see the Spring Ball.
Prime Remastered players would already know about it since it was added in the remastered version and didn't exist in the original trilogy, but I do recall it actually being a hint in the overworld in Prime Remastered that you could jump without bombs after unlocking the bomb.
No idea why they didn't mention it at all despite giving you two ball upgrades at the same time in Prime 4.
27
u/Round_Musical Sequence Breaker 20d ago
Spring ball did exist in the Wii rerelease actually! But only via using motion controls
To this day you can use your controllers motion to jump in morphball form
5
u/r_lind3r Dread Mode survivor 20d ago
Did it? Didn't know that because I played the GCN and only played Corruption via an emulator because my Wii was long gone and I never even touched it until a few years ago, up until Remastered I only ever played the GCN versions
7
u/Round_Musical Sequence Breaker 20d ago
Yup. The OG Gamecube release didnt have it but the japanese New Play Control and the worldwide Prime Trilogy release introduced it
But you need to flick your Wii Mote
3
u/r_lind3r Dread Mode survivor 20d ago
They need to get 2 and 3 remastered. 3 could actually have a lot better optional motion controls than it did on the Wii, and running it through an emulator and with an XB1 controller was such a pain in the ass to get all of it working properly.
We need to see the glorious Luminoth suts in full HD quality, please

I dont know if Nintendo is willing to do Prime Remasters anymore
Prime Remastered was really expensive.
Took 450 people across 12 studios from early 2018 till mid 2021 to make it.
And it âonlyâ sold 1.36 Million units.
That said I hope at least MP2 gets a remaster

u/r_lind3r Dread Mode survivor 20d ago

u/Round_Musical Sequence Breaker 20d ago
Dread sold big numbers on the eshop.
Prime Remastered sold good aswell but it was still waaaaays below dread and other games
I wouldnt bet on it.
That said Nintendo (back under Tanabe who isnt there anymore) had ideas to not remaster but actually full on Remake Prime 2. Overhauling its multiplayer mode. (revealed in the retrospective artbook)
Though save to say that idea is dead

This is interesting, can you please link the source?

Source for the people and studios working on it: Metroid Prime Remastered Credits
Source for development beginning in early 2018: Kensuke Tanabe in the Retrospective Artbook regarding MPR
Source for Prime Remastered ending development in July 2021: USK rating board in germany which requires feature and content complete mostly bugless games ready for market release, but also a subsequent datamine confirming that 1.0.0 was completed in Mid 2021 (MPR didnt get any updates, 1.0.0 is to this day its most up to date version)
Source for 1.36 million sales: Nintendo financial reports, especially their fiscal year 2023 report
Hope this helps

u/randumb_access 20d ago
I find all this very fascinating, thank you.
I was hoping to see more evidence to support your assertion that MPR was really expensive. I can see how time and resources of so many people cost how much it did, but I also feel that they were probably not working on MPR 24/7 - especially because it was a project that Nintendo literally sat on - had in their back pocket - for so many years.
I have no sources for my thoughts but I do want to link this recent video from games journalist Jason Schreier where he gives us the myriad of reasons why publishers love remakes - one of which is that they're not expensive.
All of that to for my unpopular opinion: I don't love Prime 1, never played Prime 2 but LOVED Prime 3 and I hope we get a remake of Prime 2 so that Prime 3 also gets made, and hopefully Other M which I also enjoyed!

Once you unlock bombs the post wii prime games enable you to jump
Either by pressing X or flicking your controller upwards

Prime 4 gives you both the psychic bomb and spring ball at the same time but only talks about the bomb, complete newbies to prime would not see it unless they checked their inventory

i now understand why video games have random yellow paint in them.
genuine question, are you new to video games as a hobby? if so I wont say more.. just know that you should try every button on your controller and try combinations of buttons and joystick together that should solve issues like this in the future.
2
u/KaryAustrianWolf 19d ago
The makers of "Why can't Metroid jump?" present you "Why can't Ball Metroid climb?" The McKenzie radio silence in Volt Forge increases complexity a lot I see :D
Anyways, there's a jump button, I think it was X on my mapping though unsure what the default is. A controller shake works too I think, the move is present in P3, Remastered and the Trilogy too.

u/Revali33 Shinespark Enthusiast 20d ago
Try to lay the bomb a little bit away from the wall and wait for it to explode. As soon as it explodes move to the right. (If youâre fine with a little training, try to get a feeling for the timing.)

u/Tactrix1 20d ago
If you can't regularly jump you can use something called triple bombing, which is where you place a bomb under you, then another one slightly later than the first and then when the first one pops you up, you place 1 final bomb at the top. So when you go back down the second bomb will go off and as it pops you up, the bomb above you blows up too, and you get a double boost.
2
u/ricbrennan 20d ago
That would only be a double bomb jump, a triple bomb jump is never needed in any of the Prime games, and it's very hard to do without lots of practice
1
u/Tactrix1 20d ago
It's only hard to do if you're going up 2 bombs, its much easier if you do it 2 bombs on the bottom one on top, that way you're almost naturally hit it. The problem with a regular double bomb jump is there's no way for you to put the second bomb up without first blowing up a bomb under you, and then you just land. So you have to place a second bomb right after the first on the bottom to get back up to the 3rd bomb so it can move you that extra little bit.
3
u/ricbrennan 20d ago
Again, that's just a regular double bomb jump, not a triple. A triple bomb jump requires you to get perfect timing on a double bomb jump, then place 2 more bombs while you're in the air to boost yourself up even higher. Double bomb jumps are required for puzzles/upgrades in each game, triple bomb jumps are never needed in any Prime game. If you look up on YouTube "Metroid Prime triple bomb jump" you'll see that it's completely different from what you're describing.
-2
u/Tactrix1 20d ago
You do understand that no one said triple jump right? I said triple BOMB. Which is not the same thing. A triple jump requires like 5 bombs.
0
u/ricbrennan 19d ago
I've never once seen someone refer to a double bomb jump as a triple bomb, and I've been watching content and speedrunning Prime games for over a decade. If vou don't want to confuse people maybe call it the correct term next time.
0
u/Tactrix1 19d ago
The only person who was confused by this is you. Maybe next time you should read before you open your mouth. And the fact that you're looking for "correct terms" from speedrunners is funnier than anything.
0
u/ricbrennan 19d ago
Iâm not confused lol, I understood you perfectly. You described a double bomb jump and called it a âtriple bomb,â so I pointed out that itâs a double bomb jump. You then got defensive over the fact that I used the actual name of the technique. If âcorrect termsâ are so funny to you, maybe donât start an argument over terminology in the first place. I never went to speedrunners for that term either, that's what it was called back in 2006 when I first played Prime 1, and people have always been calling it that. I searched all over Reddit, and YouTube, and couldn't find anyone referring it as a 'triple bomb.' Also if literally everyone in the Metroid Prime community calls it a double bomb jump, you're clearly the one using the incorrect terms. It also seems like more people are agreeing with me than you as well considering you're getting more downvotes.
0
u/Tactrix1 19d ago edited 19d ago
You got the term wrong 3x while no one said the term except you. And then tried to claim that your term is "the correct one" by citing of all sources speed runners. Do you understand that speed runners are just players? They aren't affiliated in any way with Nintendo, or Metroid. They're just regular people that have exactly 0 authority about anything that happens in the games creation, including naming.
I would understand if you made a mistake and then corrected yourself and moved on. But instead you act like a 12yo, double down on your own mistakes. And try to die on this hill. And for what? To prove a term?
But you know what your worst mistake was? That you didn't understand that what I was saying wasn't a term, it was a DESCRIPTION. Triple bomb is the amount of bombs it takes to execute this maneuver. It doesn't matter what you call it, that's what it takes.
1
u/ricbrennan 19d ago edited 19d ago
I never cited speedrunners, when did I ever say that I have? I said I've been waiting content on this game for a long time, and playing since 2006 and I speedrun the games for fun. Never once did I mention I get my information from speedrunners, that was your assumption which isn't true since I don't watch speedrunners. The correct term has always been double bomb jump, that's what everyone calls it except you apparently, if that's what everyone calls it then that's the correct name for it. Nintendo also didn't name it either, naming comes from the community, which they called it double bomb jump.
Also I never made a mistake, you're the one who called it the wrong thing and once I pointed it out you decided to change your argument to say you weren't calling it that and it was just a description, you're the one doubling down on something when you know you're wrong.

If you drop one bomb then let it bounce you drop another in mid air and then very quickly one when you land both bombs will go off at different times and give more bounce height

On top of there being a jump button, you can bomb jump in mid air. Setting three bombs all on the ground has the same effect as one on the ground.

Huh that's strange, didn't know that could happen. As others say, don't hold right the entire time, just after the bomb goes off. Or springball. Seems a few people in this thread have forgotten what it's like to be new at a game, the little mistakes they can make as a result. Holding the button to the side as you go works in most other games, expecting it to work here makes a certain amount of sense.
1
u/dafugiswrongwithyou 20d ago
Jumping aside: Momentum. Plant the bomb a little away from the wall, and get a running start into the explosion. That way you'll go up in an arc towards the gap, instead of just rubbing against the wall the whole time.

1
u/SvenHudson 20d ago
It's not strictly necessary for this particular jump but if you want a little more air you can do a double bomb-jump. Put a bomb at the peak of your jump and then get up there in time for it to explode. You can use the ball-jump input other people told you about to get there but if you want to make the timing a little more intuitive, you can also achieve it by placing a bomb on the floor, placing another bomb on the floor right when the first one explodes, and then placing your air bomb. The second floor bomb will go off just in time to send you to the air bomb for its explosion.
It sounds more complicated in writing than it really is, try practicing it while you're not getting electrocuted before bringing it here.

You could jump, or set 2 bombs in a well timed moment to perform a bomb jump, or what ever the name is from speed run community, be graceful here is actually simple, super metroid was not fun to do so the timing was not that linient.

Alternatively, if using the joycons separated, flick the right controller up and you'll jump. Otherwise you'd have to flick them both up. If the controller you're using doesn't have motion controls though, it's x.
You can change the button mapping for all of the morph ball functions, so I made jump be the same and changed boost to be the same as Viola acceleration. Saves a lot of mis-inputs
1
u/Conradlink 18d ago
Aside from the jump button, which I didn't realize was mapped until I read some comments, don't press right the whole time while going up, let the bomb take you up then press right
1
u/Correct_Possible_313 18d ago
I don't think this normal progression for a metroid game, I don't think any of them ever REQUIRED DOUBLE BOMB JUMPS to progress. If anything this looks more like a collision issue most metroid players would have noted for 1 second before using previous game knowledge to bypass it.
