Down 14 and still has a chance in the game. Just disrespected his entire team doing that. If I am a fan or player of wisconsin, I am pissed.

u/betrothalorbetrayal 〽️ 2023 National Champions 🏆 Oct 04 '25
Wisconsin’s rhythm all game was super bizarre. They had zero urgency most of the 2nd half, then randomly played high energy on one drive and got a FG, and then…just gave up after that? Truly baffling
16
u/Apprehensive-Buy6826 Oct 04 '25
He played for the cover…it’s not baffling at all. He did t bother to call timeouts when UM got into FG position because on 4th down we would have kicked it and went back up 17.
15
u/DrModel Oct 04 '25
Shoot I'm a Michigan fan that lives in the Madison area and I'm a little mad about it.
On the other hand I have not shut up about how he needs to be fired for the last 3 weeks.

u/3KiwisShortOfABanana Oct 05 '25
I wonder if he had money on Wisconsin and he thought a running clock would end the game and stalling would lead to another um score. I really don't see any other logical reasons to just give up like that

u/stylishcoat 〽️ike Boynton Jr. 🏀 Oct 04 '25
It feels like Sherrone wanted to send a message that he believes in his players in any condition while Fickell gave up on his
29
u/wavyking1 Oct 04 '25
I honestly thought he was trying to reward Marshall after a great final plays. Marshall was limping a bit but stayed in until the end.
19
8
u/Screenzer Oct 04 '25
Yeah that was really bizarre. No hurry up on that last drive, then not using any timeouts? Heck why did they even try the onside kick then? Thought it was also weird we went hurry up on that second to last play. That ending was just weird.

Were they trying to cover???
69
u/TolkienFan71 Oct 04 '25 edited Oct 04 '25
No, touchdown wouldn’t have done it. Looked like they were just trying to get Marshall a TD
Edit: it has been brought to my attention that a touchdown absolutely would have done it. I apparently can’t do math. Whoops
31
u/hng_rval Oct 04 '25
A TD absolutely would have done it. We were up 14 and the line was -17.5. A TD would have made Michigan gamblers very happy.
24
u/Yes_Herro_Prease Oct 04 '25
Without Zvadas easy miss that was a 17pt win. Vegas is too good
23
u/Screenzer Oct 04 '25
Zvada is a great kicker but he's missed some head scratchers this year.
11
u/Ghettoman1315 Oct 04 '25
He missed one on a bad snap. Kickers are always costing betters and football squares players.
4
6
u/markh100 Oct 04 '25
He's 7 for 9. The two misses were both relative chip shots. I'm not a field goal kicker, but I always feel like those short kicks from either the left or right hash are harder than a longer field goal from the center, as the variance in degrees you can miss left/right is actually smaller.
lol - I'm leaving this answer up, but I asked ChatGPT, and it thought about it for like 2 minutes before replying that a 27 yard field from the left hash is equivalent to a kick from 28.63 yards from the center, based purely on math. On TV, it seems like a bigger issue to me, but I guess any kicker with significant experience knows how to ignore all that and aim for the center.
2
u/Apprehensive-Buy6826 Oct 04 '25
Easy miss, turnover on downs inside the 30 I believe and the turnover on downs to end the game.
4
8
Oct 04 '25
Gus said 16.5 so yeah anything would have
5
u/TolkienFan71 Oct 04 '25
I guess it depends on the site, I heard 17.5
3
2
u/rambouhh Oct 04 '25
either way the touchdown covers
2
u/TolkienFan71 Oct 04 '25
Yeah whoops, I forgot we were up 14 instead of 10. I guess this is what I get for not taking any math classes while I was at Michigan
4
2
3
u/Sergestan Oct 04 '25
We were favored by 17.5 and up 14 at the time, so a touchdown would've covered.
4
u/Masde_xo Oct 04 '25
They were running plays to start the drive because they thought Wisconsin would take its timeouts, once the got near the red zone they started trying to score because W gave up and point differential could hypothetically matter in B1G tiebreakers and Playoff consideration. Also probably for fun

Sherrone just said "i feel bad for the team that let him go", about haynes 🤣
52
u/Choleric_Introvert Oct 04 '25
I'll never understand why Bama didn't use him more.
21
u/detterence Oct 04 '25
Because Haynes was 3rd or 4th in the depth chart at the time with Alabama.
27
u/rnightlyfe 〽️ 2023 National Champions 🏆 Oct 04 '25
Which is crazy because I think he averaged over 6 yards a carry on a not insignificant amount of touches.
6

u/markh100 Oct 04 '25
Hilarious to hear that about a team that just lost to Michigan twice in a row, and lost to Vanderbilt last year. Seems more likely to be poor talent evaluation on their part.
3
u/smoothtrip Oct 04 '25
And are tied with Vanderbilt right now!

uhhh weird ending but okay we will take the W
good defensive showing but the OL needs some improvement. and what’s with the drops
11
u/Advanced_Algae_5476 Oct 04 '25
Some of it is 100 on underwood. He's got bell wide up and absolutely guns a ball high and behind him. He needs to learn some finesse.
7
u/tspoon-99 Oct 05 '25
Yes, but much more of it is on the WRs. The standard for a Power 4 WR is frequently not being met by many of our guys.
2
u/Advanced_Algae_5476 Oct 05 '25
I agree with you, the question was what with the drops? Of which it's a mutual problem between Bryce and the wrs rn.
39
u/Please_PM_me_Uranus Oct 04 '25
My takeaways:
Wisconsin rush D was good and contained Haynes more than other teams, but he was too talented to get shut down.
not a blowout but I was never nervous; never felt like Michigan was in much danger.
kicking game needs to get sorted out
Drops are hurting Michigan although they looked better than prior games. mcCulley legit
O line looked bad again.
Luke Fickell basically giving up didn’t look good on him
Wisconsin’s 3rd string FCS QB was surprisingly good
14
u/marqjone706 Oct 04 '25
I didn’t think the offensive line as a whole was bad….mostly just Sprague
6
7
u/frankie_donkiebrains Oct 04 '25
Our online is gross. The drops are awful, Bryce needs to chill out with the fast balls. We still winning thoooouuuuggghhhhh
64
u/piersoer1 Oct 04 '25
That seemed kind of pathetic on fickell's part. It's like he knows he already fired.
10
27
u/The_Laugh21 Oct 04 '25
That’s fireable from Luke there
2
u/tspoon-99 Oct 05 '25
Not really, but it sure won’t be forgotten if he can’t get things turned around.
27
u/Relevant-Wrongdoer-6 〽️GoBlue Oct 04 '25
That’s actually so shitty for a coach to do that. Shows that he doesn’t have any drive to win a game.
22
u/Go_J Oct 04 '25
This ended up being a slow motion blowout. 445-252 in total yardage. They left points out on the field. Missed FG after a low snap, biff the 4th and 2 that may have led to more points. Lots of people were being way too harsh in the game thread. Yeah there's frustrating stuff going on like the drops which is a problem. Wisconsin came to play and their defense played into Michigan's strengths. I don't think Michigan believed they were going to make a QB change and prepared for the wrong QB. My only complaint is that they should have been pass first from the drop instead of waiting until the second half. A win is a win and I think lots of us lose sight of that and want the whole coaching staff fired because it's not playing out like you think it should.
3
u/passthefanta Oct 04 '25
Yeah we clearly dominated this game. The issues I saw were all so coach able. And we clearly have top WRs now in Donovan, Marsh, and Semaj. And Haynes is truly incredible. I’m excited for the season
2
u/Rebel_Bertine Oct 05 '25
Yeah the commentary said that Bama basically probed Wisconsin’s interior, couldn’t penetrate it and went all pass immediately. A different game plan there and it’s a proper blow out
17
u/IfYouAintFirst26 Oct 04 '25
Fickell is coaching to get fired. Dude wants out and wants the buyout with it
10
u/drjay1920 Oct 04 '25
Should have never left Cincy
4

Had he known they’d end up being a B12 team, I wager he wouldn’t have left.

Dear Mr. Ellison,
I humbly ask you to offer Ryan Williams 5 million dollars to come here for his Junior Season. I also request that you offer an undisclosed yet fairly substantial amount to flip 5 star recruit Calvin Russell.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

It took 4 quarters for our offensive oven to warm up but we eventually started cooking. A lot of work to do. Our defense though, they were seriously impressive.
58
u/TolkienFan71 Oct 04 '25
Ugly win, but a win. They very likely caught us looking ahead to next week, which I can live with
34
Oct 04 '25
If you told me Haynes would rush for over 100, we’d have a receiver over 100 with a TD, and Underwood threw for 270 with no INTs I would have thought that game would have looked different.
Hopefully Marsh continues to improve. Need to get solid receiver play for Underwood

u/jaysvw Oct 04 '25
A win is a win, but I think for good or bad, what you see is what you get with this team. I dont think they were looking ahead, they just lack talent, especially on the O line.
4
u/marlin9423 Oct 04 '25
Honeslty, the sun and the heat probably played a factor in the first half. Or maybe it's coincidence that the offense started clicking when a cloud came overhead haha
1
u/wavyking1 Oct 04 '25
I didn’t see much zone stretch working today. Give it up for the defense. I’ll assume Tressell becomes interim if they get rid of Fickell.

Oddly enough I’m more annoyed with the opponent’s coach telling his own team to fuck off/giving up before 2:00 left than us not making the spread.
Plus I don’t bet, so there’s that…
3
u/philfrysluckypants 〽️GoBlue Oct 05 '25
I'm too emotionally invested in Michigan football when I don't even have money riding on the game. Adding money into that equation just seems like a horrible fuckin idea to me.
14
u/jaysvw Oct 04 '25
The offense looked 100% better once they got out of those stupid tight sets. I get it, Michigan wants to be manball U, but this isn't a late JH team with weapons for lineman. They have to let Underwood do his thing.
9
u/merkellius Oct 04 '25
There was a ton of room to take off running on a few plays (where I felt it was smarter to just run). Decision making is getting there for Bryce! Just gotta keep getting better together, and we’ll be okay.

Wisconsin just gave up at the end. They had no more fight in them. Fickell knew it.

We didn’t play great but another game that wasn’t nearly as close as the score would represent
6
u/GhostDosa 〽️GoBlue Oct 04 '25
Looks close but we left what would have been most likely 10 points on the table with ending the game at the 5 and missing that field goal. That’s at least 34-10. I feel pretty good about that. Nice to see Marsh finally put some things together.
6
u/snotzzz73 〽️GoBlue Oct 04 '25
Just got home from the game and I felt it was a ho-hum effort offensively. We wore them down and that was the difference. The defense was incredible all day. Gotta get the snapping cleaned up, but we will be in every game

I thought that was a very underwhelming game overall. But the ending was kind of weird. It's like the other team just gave up.

Love Bryce Underwood don't get me wrong, he's elusive and has great instincts but damn every ball out of his hand is like a supersonic missile. Yeah we had some drops but it's like trying to catch a cannonball at short range sometimes. Could have had 3 or 4 more completions with a little more touch. I trust this is well known and he'll clean all that up. Rather have this problem though than a noodle arm with no deep threat.
9
u/Elbit_Curt_Sedni Oct 04 '25
Tbf, several of those should still have been caught. Average receivers would have.
3
u/Go_J Oct 04 '25
I'd like to know if they're struggling with drops in practice too. I don't know. It keeps getting brought up. He's throwing too fast he's throwing too fast but it feels like they would have gotten used to it by now.
2
u/wolverine_1208 Oct 04 '25
I feel like this might just an adjusting to the speed of college thing. Once he gets a better adjustment to the speed of the defensive backs he’ll have a better feel for when he can take some velocity off the ball. I hope at least.
8
u/Sufficient_Ad_3027 Oct 04 '25
lol why didn’t we knee there? Glad we won but damn we have a lot to cleanup.
18
u/foosball0420 Oct 04 '25
You want all of the points you can get. Stuff like that matters in the rankings and polls. This isn’t the old days.
15

The BCS was literally all about scoring points lol that’s why Ohio Soft would score 70 pts the first 3 games of the year
2
7
u/Foreverjian Oct 04 '25
Because Wisconsin had 3 time outs. If they won’t use them then you keep pushing.
7

I added above that I just thought Sheronne was trying to reward Marshall with a TD. Marshall was limping after the long run but stayed in AND took the handoff.
4
u/Constantine__XI Oct 04 '25
Go Blue! I need a good recap and takeaways. Was able to watch most of the 1st at the airport, jump on a flight, land and watch most of the 2nd half. Seems like a wet noodle fight while I was in the air so not sure if I missed much.
5

If you caught most of the first and most of the 2nd half... you didn't miss much at all. The second quarter was lots of punts on both ends

4
u/marqjone706 Oct 04 '25
It all makes sense now. Semaj’s drops and issues on punt return. He is afraid of contact. The evidence has been piling up. He is focused on not getting hit.
5
u/parrythisyoucasual23 Oct 04 '25
The defense looked great. People hit the panic button WAYYYY to fast after the first drive as always. That offense in the second half needs to start showing up in the first half lol.

I’d like to see Goodwin get some more run. I know he had some drops but also seemed to flash some things. Liked seeing Marsh get more looks

Yeah i hope they just stick with Marsch and let him develop with time. Goodwin at least projects a way more interesting profile than the other jitterbugs they keep trotting out there.

No need to watch the first 3 quarters. Just watch the 4th if you missed the game and want to save yourself some aggravation lol.
What saved the game for me was finally seeing a few WRs emerge. Love seeing McCulley essentially taking over the game and Marsh showing what he can do given the chance.

Why not try at the end for extra points or did we change our minds about being ranked higher

Why does our offense always look so bad after a bye week? They woke up in the last quarter... Moore needs to figure this out because we have looked better when he wasn't on the sideline

Are there any QB coaches or former QBs that can lend insight as to why a lot of Bryce’s throws were high? The internet says usually poor footwork or the ball tip pointing up at the release.

If the offense can figure out how to play 1st halves as well as 2nds, we’d have an elite team.

Still think our OL is nowhere near ear good enough to win meaningful games. And our receivers outside McCulley (and Marsh?) can’t seem to catch or create separation, both of which make it hard on a freshman QB regardless of his talent, and make running down to down a slog. Improve the OL though and I think a lot starts to look better.

Sprague was absolutely atrocious. His missed blocks caused 3 negative plays and that’s just what I recall. Overall, Wisconsin had the #1 rush D before this game for a reason. I think we need a new right tackle.

3 points don't matter so they aren't going to kick a fg, they aren't going to prolong the game any more than necessary so they're not going to call TO's, they're going to just keep pushing ahead towards the goal line and if they score great, if they run out of time before they get in it doesn't matter they still win.
