Didn't they just sentence a mother to 7 months in prison because she let her 5 year old walk unsupervised in their gated community alone, in the vicinity of a pond?

Mom lets her kid walk alone… gets 7 months in prison. That’ll teach them to not leave their kids while… in prison away from her kids. Fucking Christ.

Truly stunning logic, isn't it?

lol like suspending a kid from school because they skipped school.

Mine had Saturday school for some infractions and that was the worst.

Everything now is in school detention.

Children only matter when they are a fetus.

A fetus is easy to advocate for. It has no voice of it's own to push back against it's oppressor or state it's needs to it's advocate. A child might have an opinion and that's not what the people focused on protecting fetuses are here for.

I do not like the comment I'm about to make...

The case we're referring to happened in Virginia, solid blue area, with very pro-choice laws.

I'm from Va and that blew my mind. I thought for sure she wouldn't get convicted.
Meanwhile, in Switzerland it's expected and encouraged for kids to walk to school unattended starting around age 4

That seems young

I was aiming at the national level. We refuse to do many things for kids, but by god will people flip out over abortion.

If abortions hurt more women then they helped they'd be mandatory.

Abortions hurt women. They just convince themselves that the fetus is not their kid so they don't have to do deal with the cognitive dissonance.

I'm pretty sure child birth hurts more than an abortion

Unmedicated, sure. With the epidural...nope. Abortion hurts more. My wife had 3 miscarriages, 3 births all C setions. She said the D&Cs were the worst thing in the world.

Technically, until a certain trimester, the fetus isn't a living being.

u/Snakend Sep 12 '26

Those are the political meaning. If you don't get that abortion, that fetus will be a human being. You are taking action that stops your body from producing a child.

I don't feel that as a man I can tell a woman to get an abortion or not. IT is their body, they can do as they wish.

I know what you were trying to do. I'm expressing my disgust for your political tactics

Eh, Im not saying thats my view, but the nations. Thats clearly sarcasm.

And that's just how our country sadly is. If it wasnt children wouldn't go hungry and without basic needs when society can meet those needs. Waiting children to be taken care of isn't political, it is a basic requirement of how society should function. Hell even animals can do that.

I'm probably pretty much your ally politically. We likely agree far more than not. I agree with your sentiments. I disagree with your tactics. As someone who wants these political ideas to win, I urge you to stop hamfisting them in, especially when the plain facts can be so easily used against you.

except, the sentiment isn't the same across the nation.

Hi, from Maryland, you do realize not every area in a blue state is blue? Like I live in So Cal now, and it’s red as hell in the area I live.

Absolutely. If you want to dig in, this particular incident happened in Williamsburg, which is in James City County, which is one of the deepest blue counties in a solidly blue state.
