What was that last one?
The Sega and staying there was on point

u/RussianWasabi Zillennial 16h ago
The last one what exactly? E's? They were elements from transformer cores, it was everywhere on the streets in Russia back in the day, every kid knew about them XD

u/jordansinn 15h ago
So the Zoomer "E" meme from a few years back was a Russian psy-op? That makes so much more sense.

I think it was that "E" meme where Markiplier was 'shopped onto Lord Farquaad from Shrek, deep fried and then just the caption "E"

What goes inside the film case? I know not film, but different people have different answers.
Mine is

u/rakot-NU 12h ago
I think, that literally was the test. You needed to know that film goes there. So many younger people have no idea

I quote this too much. Once said it to my mother about a tint drawer in a charity shop and she was not amused hahah

I love how these jokes are universally understood and enjoyed. Makes the world feel a bit smaller

I forgot the cord one only, but everything else, especially the sega genesis, was accurate. I'd have stayed and played too, lol.

It’s an audio video cable

And channel 3 on the tv.

This is the part where you can catch the fakers. They might know about composite cables but if they don't know about channel 3, they've failed.

u/AstroRocket0 9h ago
Hate to do this to you guys, but channel 3 wasn't used for the A/V cable. The TVs had a special "Video" setting/channel that you would put it on for those. Channel 3 was for the type of connector that you would screw onto the coax cable connection on the back. I agree though, the younguns would know absolutely nothing about that one.

I use to have the adapter for the RCA cables to the copper cable, can’t even remember that adapter anymore. My tv didn’t have any of the ports so cable was the only way for my N64.

RCA or composite cables

Immediately thought “yep that’s a VMA cable” and realized I just discovered what a millennial retirement community will sound like.

For me the RCA were the ones shown and composite meant the ones with RGB cables instead of a single video cable.
4
u/unsignedthoughts 14h ago
Nope, the split RGB colored connectors were "component" video, because each component of the signal had its own wire (usually YPbPr, not raw RGB values). The single video line in RCA cables was "composite", because the signal was a composite (combination) of the same luminance and color information, though with greater losses.

Hmm maybe I'm misremembering then. It's been ages since I've dealt with anything other than HDMI so I wouldn't be surprised. Never really been into retro gaming beyond emulators. Component does ring some bells I'd not thought about since the brief period between RCA and HDMI in the 360 era for me.

OMG, I don't know how I forgot that cuz I meddled with them all the time!

u/llamainleggings 16h ago
Couldn't think of what they were called, just remembered that I had to plug them in to play the N64.

The cord one, he asked: what flowers are these? Not what colors or what type. Translation was wrong. The flowers are Tulips

What am I missing about the plastic bag one? How else do you grab one of those bags??😅
7
u/myredditaccount90 12h ago
A funny reminder from unfunny covid times. Going to the grocery and fighting with a plastic bag for at least 10 mins trying not to freak people out with the perception of germs.

I used to lick a finger now and then when turning pages or separating papers, I don’t even do that anymore.
Now I work a retail job that still gives out plastic bags and I’ll awkwardly fight to open the bag, or on a busy day I’ll pre-open a few bags - post-Covid I’m pretty good about not putting my fingers anywhere near my mouth and I’m working on keeping myself from itching my nose or rubbing my eyes. I’ve never caught Covid! Used to catch colds at least once a year but even colds are rare for me now.

Bag one he spit on his finger before grabbing the bag. Idk how accurate that is cause while many millennials saw the generations above them do that with papers and bags I don't think millennials ever actually copied that.

Yeah, I know, getting some moisture on your fingers is the go-to. I want to know how else people are getting those bags open if not that approach. What are the younger kids doing now that this is a good age test??

u/fkdjgfkldjgodfigj 9h ago
I always cringe when older people are constantly licking their fingers in public. It's not very sanitary. Especially licking dollar bills.

u/ElGranQuesoRojo Older Millennial 15h ago
What was the paper? Was that one of those toilet seat things that are always a pain in the ass to use w/o ripping?
6
u/Quiet_Entertainer982 13h ago
I think it was plastic bags. Like when bagging groceries, occasionally the bags would stick to on another. Much like liking your finger to turn the page on a book, you'd do this to separate the plastic bag.
I could be way off though, as that is my interpretation from some in the Midwest USA

Sega guy should have failed because he didn't blow the underside to remove dust from the circuit board insert
