I guess to fully rebuild you have to tear it down to the foundation. Late 20s in the NBA is considered old.

I mean kind of. You still have some good years ahead of you, but 28 is pretty late to still hope for someone to ā€œtake the next step.ā€

I have argued with many Bucks fans about the direction of the team, I have been of the opinion its better to tear this team down to the studs and embrace a full scale rebuild. Unfortunately most of the fan base is to soft and cant bare to see us have 1 losing seson or we will be relocated. Or they mention how painful the 90's 2000's where despite the fact the Bucks usually won 30 games during their bad streatch.

I don't want him traded. He's an x factor guy like Dieng. I'll be pissed if he's traded.

For Dalton Knecht of all players too

Highly doubt DK even reaches Milwaukee if it does happen. More then likely it will be a cut. 100% Horst is trying for 2 2nds.

If they can get draft capital for him that's not a bad deal

I'll be more than pissed! Angry and hurt more like it! Looking forward to watching him play for the Bucks next Wednesday and Friday's season home opener!

This is a "Trade to the Lakers or we come down about GTJ contract" situation i fear, because Knecht feels useless here

This is the result of botched management by horst. Instead we have to roster Gary stink Jr and lose draft picks.

Sims led the league in 2 effectivity categories last year, and would average a double double as a starter. He used to be a rim guard, but if you watch him play now, he isn't challenged as much at the rim.

The main reason he gets so few blocks is because he switches outside, and stops guards from getting to the paint.

His problem is, he won't shoot. I don't know if he can.

Last night against the Pacers he didn't dress, but last year he was on Pascal, and did damn well shutting him down.

What’s with peoples love for this guy? He’s a big with hops, but isn’t really a plus on either side of the court. Especially on offense.

He’s 7’3ā€ and can jump to the moon…but he doesn’t block shots or offer much in terms of rim protection. And he’s 27. He doesn’t fit the team.

Not 7’3ā€

Sims is an elite rebounder, particularly on the offensive glass. Coach Jenkins has stressed the importance of securing the possession battle, and Sims may be the best weapon we have to make that happen.

Defensively, Sims is strong yet switchable and can reliability guard up against wings (and even some guards). It's true that his block numbers aren't great, but it's easy to pair him with Turner or Ware who can cover that facet (and stretch the floor alongside him on offense). I think his versatility (and general competitiveness) on defense outweigh this limitation.

Offensively, Sims is a true lob threat and solid above-the-rim finisher. He doesn't have much skill other than play finishing, but he knows this and helps by keeping the ball moving, setting solid screens, rolling hard to the rim, and not doing too much. And once again, offensive rebounding is becoming a more and more covetable skill, and Sims will undoubtedly gain us extra possessions.

Most NBA fans can see the value guys like Mitchell Robinson or Steven Adams bring despite both players having clear and significant limitations on offense (just like Sims). Taylor Jenkins unlocked the potential of a younger Steven Adams in Memphis, and I have faith he can carve out a role for Sims as well. Where you see limitations, I see several great/elite NBA skills (rebounding, finishing, defensive switchability) that can shine in the right system.

If he truly takes that next step in Jenkins system, shouldn’t he be like priority #1 to move and sell high then?Ā

Potentially. But I think this scenario is a bit too far down the line to gauge.

I am mainly arguing that Sims has value he can bring to this team right now and isn't a 'bad fit' in the Taylor Jenkins system. If he remains only a fringe role player, I will enjoy his hustle and rebounding and will be thankful he is on a short-term, inexpensive deal. If he becomes something more, I would absolutely consider flipping him for assets or signing him to a longer team-friendly deal, even with his current age. All teams need solid role players and veterans, and keeping a 28-year-old Sims on an inexpensive deal isn't going to prevent us from building or investing in a young core.

Overall, I just think Sims is the kind of low-risk, modest-reward player that is perfect to give a chance. If we end up having to debate selling high vs. re-signing with Sims, then I would say our minimal investment paid off.

So you don’t think Sims gets moved?

He's hardly an elite rebounder. He's a decent rebounder. His one exceptional trait is being a 5 that can defend on the perimeter.

Useful guy, but just a guy.

3

u/Temporary-Emu-691 1d ago

He's one of the best rebounders we've had in years.

Rebounding matters just ask Turner

I wouldn't say he's useless, but his skillset fits better in EuroLeague or perhaps the 90s NBA. People on this sub definitely way overvalue him though.

Realistically in the NBA he's a Break Glass In Case of Emergency 3rd string guy.

I have a lot of respect for how professional and hard working he's been with the Bucks, but it would be a mistake to keep him with the team at the expense of one of the young guys or even at the expense of losing a better vet presence who can offer the young guys more mentorship.

Sims is a few days short of 28. There is no "breakout" coming. He is the player he is going to be for the rest of his career.

We don’t need him. And We don’t need KPJ with our guard depth - would love to get pick back. I hate Kuzma. Kuzma is a salary dump tho so I don’t mind hanging onto him thru Feb but he HAS to go. Lavert by contrast seems like ok person but just no fit on this team , way too old, don’t need his services, he could be a 6 man somewhere else

u/Most_Significance842 Kash Money Middleton 1d ago

Sims isn't netting us draft capital in a trade, and if you truly hate Kuzma, you should be in favor of us retaining our frontcourt depth so that we don't have to play him. Sims perfectly fits the fast-paced, scrappy, rebounding-centric identity Jenkins is trying to build and will absolutely carve out a rotation spot.

2

u/ahrzal Bogoljub Marković 1d ago

100% but Kuz is only going to take on another shitty contract you realize that right.Ā

I don’t like getting rid of Sims for players though. I have a bad feeling about the GTJR investigation and we need as many picks as we can get our hands onĀ

KEEP JERICHO

u/Danny_nichols 1d ago

The most likely route to this team even being semi competitive in the foreseeable future is some or all of of Herro, Rollins, Burries, Ament and Ware being part of the core. Kasp is also a wild card and I could be talked into thinking Deing could still be a nice long term rotational piece.

Anyone not on that list to me warrants a conversation. If any of them get you fair offers that have more long term potential, I think ton have to very seriously consider it.

Sims is in that latter group. He's not likely to play all that much. If he fetches us Knecht plus some picks, I would certianly take that. The 2nd rounders would be the selling point, but I also think there's a non-zero chance Knecht just needs a change of scenery. I didnt love him coming out, so I'm not sure high on him, but I do think there's still a shot there's a decent wing scorer there.

1

u/YouAreCorrectSirYes 1d ago

Herro does not belong on this list

u/Danny_nichols 1d ago

Sure the 26 year old who is a year removed from being an all star and averaged 25/5/5 has no chance of being part of the next competitive Bucks team.

fans attachment to niche bench role players is hilarious

2

u/sinjaulas Bango 9h ago

That's what makes good fans. I love our role players, especially if they project themselves as hardworking, good dudes. In the end, it's all business but it doesn't mean you have to feel good about watching guys walk. We are in a different era so there will be more of this ahead but it still stings when it happens.

u/DistanceEmbarrassed5 1d ago

Seriously what is wrong with this fan base. Everyone not on our timeline ( 23 and younger can go even Rollins can get traded if a team makes a good enough offer.)
