Delivery Question on Tint

Post image

Ordered 9/5 and took delivery yesterday in South Florida. MY Premium RWD. Worth the wait and delivery was flawless! Got the ‘27 VIN which has PowerShare!

Question on tint… the 2 rear windows come pre-tinted to I believe 20% tint??

I was planning to tint the 4 windows with 15%, and the front windshield with 70%. All ceramic film.

Since the 2 rears are pre-tinted - does the tint shop have to remove the pre-tint, or do they just go over top?

Side note: Yes, I am aware of tint laws!

My tint place used a tint meter and the back were 26 from factory, so I did 25 on the front and it’s a perfect match, I also did 55 on windshield ceramic pro. Also you can’t remove the tint from the back windows because there’s no tint, the glass is dyed, you would have to replace the whole window with one that isn’t dyed

That’s not a tint. It’s basically just colored glass.

I took mine to a certified Xpel installer. I told them to put 20% on the front and match the back as best they could. I think they ended up doing 55% on the back and it was very close to the front 20%.

That’s exactly what I did, too. It looks great

The rears on mine measured 27%. A good tint shop can match to a target desired %.

70% on the windshield won’t be noticeable; consider 50%.

I went 50% on the windshield and net 15% on all the rest of the windows.

I would only trust Llumar, 3M, or XPel tint.

factory tint is actual glass being tinted it cannot be removed... typically to match rears you only need to go 30 or 20% on the fronts if you want the rears and fronts even darker you have to tint them all but the rears will need a lower tint than the front because of the built in tint of the glass that cannot be removed.

for me i went with 30% XPEL XR plus and its a nice match on the outside with the rears and not so dark that it will cause me any issues with visibility or attention from the police. the heat rejection with a good ceramic is excellent to the point that i am going to get my windshield done in 70% ceramic next week to help with heat rejection while keeping it legal on the windshield.

Great response … love the blue!

thanks! Marine Blue is awesome in the sun, hard to keep clean though like any dark color

My tinting guy was aware of the rear windows having the equivalency of 30% tint already. We are just matching the front and I’m doing 70% on the windshield. I get tint and front PPF Monday. 😎🚗

I put 15% on my rear windows and it’s equivalent to 5% maybe slightly darker but I like it for the rear on the fronts I put 25% and 50% on the front windshield. Llumar pinnacle as I didn’t like the blue tint of the stratos and it’s almost the same heat rejection.

We did 55% on windshield and 15% on front window, rear windows 30% and nothing on roof. Xpel Prime XR+ on WS, 3M Ceramic IR on the rest…Tampa Bay..

And it’s white on white 😍

I tip got with 55 in the windshield. You will not notice anything with 70%. Also if you go Xpel go with XR Black Plus. Doesn’t have the blue hue to it which will make them not match the back and top sunroof

The rear windows are stained, not tinted. Meaning you can’t remove the color because it’s part of the actual glass.

Also in Florida. I went with 5% on the back and rear, 15 on the front 2 and 50 on the roof and windshield.

Damn, your car must be so dark inside haha

It’s not bad at all. It’s dark enough to not have to wear sunglasses all the time. Also keeps the temp down significantly. I usually get around 4 hours in the direct sun before cabin over temp protection kicks on.

I did 5% all around but left my windshield alone

I did 5% on my last truck and it was just too dang hard to see at night… loved it during the day though!

Makes it almost impossible to back into a parking spot that’s tight with the windows up. If it’s raining, ya just have to suck it up and get wet if you don’t want to rim your wheels.

15 on fronts, 50 over the dye in rears and back window, and 50 on windshield. Looks perfect IMO

What does it cost?? $$$$

My rears and sides measured at 21% so I did 20% I kinda see a difference, I just got mines done yesterday. They said the back was tinted glass.

I would trade in the car and get something better

My ‘26 has PowerShare. Am I missing something?

Rear windows are not tinted but dyed. They just tint as normal. I just did 20% and would warn that 15% will be dark. I did 70% on the windshield, I would recommend that.

later model 26's have powershare as well, my car is one of the last 26' models picked up end of last month and has it. model years are meaningless with tesla as they change their cars on demand plant by plant.

PowerShare was added standard late in the 2026 cycle. Not all 2026s have it.

1

u/Academic-Divide9482 2d ago

Interesting. My advisor yesterday specifically pointed out that I got a 2027 and it had PowerShare… maybe they rolled it out sporadically in 2026 but standard for all ‘27s?

My previous truck had 5% all around, so 15% will be a lot brighter for me. Thanks for confirming 70% on the windshield

All the new Teslas have PowerShare now

I currently have 5% all around on my Lexus and feel like it's too dark for me during early evening and especially complete sundown as my eyes aren't as great in low light. Ordered a Y and wondering if 5% all around won't feel as dark given the fish bowl build

u/AdOk4386 2d ago

You don't have to tint the rear on the model Y.

8

u/tandin01 2d ago

You do if you want hear rejection. Back glass is smoked privacy glass, and doesn't reject heat like actual window tint does. I live in Vegas and tinting all windows is a must. I did 15 front and 45 rears and back glass and the match well.

u/TheA2Z 2d ago

Make sure you have it metered when done. In my state, you cant have a certain of level of tint. I had mine tinted and checked to ensure right under state limit.

Still got pulled over for tinted windows but when officer checked it was legal....whew...

1

u/Academic-Divide9482 2d ago

Yeah…. I’m in FL… nobody cares here!

2

u/TheA2Z 2d ago

If I lived there I would just spray black spray paint on all the windows and FSD it....

But seriously, if you drive out of state they can get you like in GA

u/Disastrous_Royal_654 2d ago

As someone else mentioned, the rear windows are stained not tinted.

Do 5% limo all around and 50% for the front windshield.
