SO YOU WANT TO MOVE TO MONTANA? [Post your questions here]

Post your "Moving to Montana" (MtM) questions here.

A few guidelines to spurring productive conversations about MtM:

  1. Be Specific: Asking "what towns in Montana have good after-school daycare programs?" will get you a lot farther than "what town should I move to?"
  2. Do your homework: If a question can be answered with a google search ... do the google search. Heck, try searching previous threads here.
  3. Be sensitive to Montanans' concerns: Seriously, don't boast about how much cheaper land is here. It isn't cheap to people earning Montana wages. That kind of thing.
  4. Seriously, don't ask us what town to move to: Unless you're asking something specific and local-knowledge-based like, "I have job offers in Ryegate and Forsyth, which one has the most active interpretive dance theater scene"?
  5. Leave the politics out of it: If you're moving here to get away from something, you're just bringing that baggage along with you. You don't know Montana politics yet, and Reddit doesn't accurately reflect Montana politics anyway; so just leave that part out of it. No, we don't care that Gavin Abbot was going to take away your abortion gun. Leave those issues behind when asking Montanans questions. See r/Montana Rule #1 and hop on over to our sister subreddit, r/MontanaPolitics, for all of your Treasure State politics needs!
  6. If you insist on asking us where to move: you are hereby legally obliged to move to whatever town gets the most upvotes. Enjoy Scobey.
  7. If you are looking for broader help on traveling and tourism topics: please visit r/MontanaTravel. I hear it's nice this time of year...

-------------------------------------------

to r/Montana regulars: if they're here rather than out there on the page, they're abiding by our rules. Let's rein in the abuse and give them some legitimate feedback. None of the ol' "Montana's Full" in here, OK?

This thread will be refreshed monthly.

Elk and a Fox

Last week two of my favorite animals graced me with their presence. This time of year, bull Elk move about the forest with zero finesse. They crash through anything that gets in the way of their strong drive to pass their genes on to the next generation. I still heard this guy long after he had vanished into the forest. About the only thing left were their tracks and a fog that hung in the air from their collective condensed breath.

Conversely, there are few animals that move about as apparently effortlessly as a Red Fox. They often behave more like a feline than a canine, and even have cat-like vertical pupils. They’re not an uncommon creature around these parts, but they are stunningly beautiful.

Great Falls from Square Butte

Due to a tremendous amount of personal lore and backstory that I’d rather not get into, my wife, my one year old son, and I are needing to move to great falls soon from our tiny little town about forty minutes from it. I am planning on getting us a month at a local motel I think the Legacy Plaza does a month for $1000. Does anybody know of any cheaper motels? And especially does anybody know of anyone felon friendly hiring? I am an experienced Coal Miner but broke my leg and came out here looking for work. Thanks guys!

Who should we meet in MT? (Shooting a road doc)

Hey Montana! I'm driving across the Mountain West in a van with a couple of friends shooting a documentary. We're on the hunt for interesting stories, local businesses, or characters along our route.

We just wrapped an incredible few days interviewing people around Wyoming and are mapping out Montana.

Got a local rec or a story to share? Could even be yours. No limit on how weird, unique, or beautiful the subject is… we just want to capture what's really out there. Drop a tip in the comments/DMs. Thanks!

Jeff Ament's nonprofit (Montana Pool Service) opened Hot Springs skatepark in September on Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes land. The sixth skatepark on the Flathead Reservation now! Here's a write up with the rest of September's new skateparks. Cheers

What’s the story with eating roadkill here? Is it just that we have salvage tags, or can we find it on a menu somewhere?

Will we see snow next week?

I was wondering, what the storm do you think? We’ll see any snow between Coeur d’Alene Idaho-Missoula and Kalispell between next Wednesday to Friday?

That storm has been messing with planning things lately, hopefully you guys are more familiar with the weather around there right now. Thanks.

To the Andrews of Montana

If you're an Andrew and from Montana, this post is for you.

Long story short, ever since I've had my current phone number (so approx. 10 years now), I have been getting calls, texts, messages, voicemails, EVERYTHING for an Andrew. I tell them every time, "hey, this isn't Andrew. This hasn't BEEN Andrew EVER. You have the wrong number." and yet 10 years later, I still get these calls and messages.

I can only assume that there's an Andrew over there who has nefariously and with ill intent been using what happens to be my number instead of his own (?) I didn't know where he was from for a long time, but last year, he used MY number for something politically related in Montana, and now I get hyper-specific messages and calls about / from "Dillon" Montana. I get surveys from Montana. I get scam calls from Montana. I now am afraid of Montana.

Hilariously, I have never been to Montana. I'm sure that y'all are great, the small handful of people I've met from here have all been very sweet, but none of them have been Andrew My Nemesis.

So, Andrew from Montana, wherever you are, I am sending you SO many bad vibes psychically, spiritually, whatever. You have 10 years of mild annoyance and sighs of irritation karma built up. If you're an Andrew and you're from Montana, I'm sorry, but we're now mortal enemies.

I'm posting this after getting fifteen different spam calls that were supposed to be for you in the course of 6 hours. This is not including the 4 texts messages of the same nature. All today. This is after years and recent-weeks of blocking every number with your area code who sends calls / texts through.

Also please pay your medical bill, you got a call for that as well. Might have been a scam though, don't get scammed. We may be enemies but I don't wish that on anyone. Not even Andrew from. Montana.

(Note : this is mostly a joke. A silly ha-ha moment. The plauge of Andrew from Montana is real, and I really would appreciate it if he stopped giving out a "random number" instead of his own to scammy stuff because it happens to be my number and that makes me sad. :( I don't wish any harm upon any Andrews, I'm sure that most of you are chill.)
