Morality Ranking Morality of exterminating dangerous breeds of an otherwise tamed species?

Post image

Dangerous to people, and not just having a better build/jaw strength etc. And also this particular breed(s) are the only dog breeds to have a lobby protecting them in the west btw

I find it weird that all these pro-pitbull arguments devolve into "if you're in favor of banning pitbulls, you must also want to ban black people" tf

It doesn't help that people who want to ban them do the 13/50 meme which is a racist dog whistle.

And it's always black people and not the myriad of other ethnicities so it's kinda weirdly specific

I’ve seen this argument. So we’re equating humans to 4 legged animals. Disgusting.

7

u/Significant_Breath38 14h ago

I have never seen that and I'm on pitbull subreddits.

u/tauntua2ndtyme 14h ago

Ive def seen the " if you dislike pitbulls ur racist"

5

u/Significant_Breath38 13h ago

And I've def seen "the earth is flat". The internet is full of crazy people, that doesn't mean any idea is a majority opinion.

4

u/cybersecuritythrow 13h ago

of course not. Poor / inflammatory choice of words above by me. I just mean that in almost all pitbull discourse threads, I see some commenters eventually making racial analogies.

2

u/Significant_Breath38 13h ago

Yeah, so it's not even the conversation degrading into race stuff. It's some people wanting to make the connection.

Some people talking about it != Everyone talking about it.

That's the kind of thinking that actually crazy people try to prey upon to get you to believe their bullshit

-2

u/cybersecuritythrow 13h ago

Perhaps. But you claiming you've never seen that argument before is sota the opposite extreme to the point where I don't believe you're talking in good faith.

5

u/Significant_Breath38 13h ago

How is my person experience the opposite extreme? All it establishes is that between two samples, one saw the argument a few times and the other saw it never.

Combine our samples and we can get an idea that it's a rare occurrence, or at least one not championed by many people.

Who tf is saying that lmao....i think its more of an attempt of a redditor to conflate an argument

7

u/WestCoastCompanion 14h ago

There’s something similar implied directly below, though it doesn’t specify which race…

9

u/PitchBlac 13h ago

scroll down further and you’ll see a person making the same style of argument

the first one you hit wasn't the... first one?

> Since you seem to like statistics I got a crazy statistic for you regarding race and crime lmao

What comment did you even click

-9

u/Sad_Elk1943 13h ago

It says nothing about race at all....maybe dog breeds.....try having an argument before changing it so u can be butthurt

I love how a majority of those comments mention statistics and YOU jumped to black people

4

u/cybersecuritythrow 13h ago

2/5 explicitly mention black people. One of them mentions a "crazy statistic" which is a dog whistle.

The other two liken disapproval of pitbulls to racism, which is my greater point that is a ridiculous assertion.

I can't rub your neurons together for you dude.

-2

u/Huntsman077 13h ago

I love how I said a majority and your response was “well two out of five”… do I need to crack out the old dictionary so you know what majority means?

Also I love how people like you immediately jump to racism, like do you really believe the statics regarding black people and don’t understand why the stats are misleading?

2

u/cybersecuritythrow 13h ago

Racial crime statistics are misleading because humans are incredibly complex individuals impacted by socioeconomic and cultural variables.

It is insulting to compare dog bite injury statistics to that. You are calling me racist, which is just making my point for me in my very own comment thread calling out this ridiculous argument.

0

u/Huntsman077 13h ago

When did I call you racist?

You’re also neglecting the higher rates of exoneration and higher police levels in the communities.

It’s insulting to point out the statics aren’t the full picture?

1

u/cybersecuritythrow 12h ago

Honestly, I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make or what you’re implying. You seem to think I take racial statistics at face value, and that it’s weird for me to think of Black people when someone dogwhistles “crazy racial statistics.”

And yes, I’ll say it again: comparing African American crime statistics to pit bull statistics is insulting. Black people were not bred to be violent. Pit bulls were. Using that comparison to make your point is disgusting.

0

u/Huntsman077 12h ago

Do you want to ban all dogs bred for violence? Also you’re talking about almost two centuries in the past. They were used as farm dogs in the US after they crossed the pound.

My point was those statistics are misleading, and you took them at face value.

Argument needs to turned to criminally going after the owners for being irresponsible with what is a weapon with a mind of its own.

1

u/AdversarysVengeance 4h ago

I also think it’s funny that people that want to ban guns because they’re dangerous seem to regularly defend pit bulls.

-3

u/Lolocraft1 13h ago

It’s called consistency. If the argument in favour of banning pitbull is because they are statistically more involved in attack and injuries, then you can use the same argument for other opinions, such as black people, who statistically commit more crimes.

Their point is just like black people, pitbull aren’t inherently violent and the reason they are is because of other factors. In their case it’s because it’s a popular breed of guard dog, although you can very well train it as a family dog

-2

u/burritomouth 13h ago

It’s because the rhetoric is the same. You know how mixed race white/black kids are always Black to racist? How a white woman can give birth to a Black child but a Black woman can’t give broth to a white child? Same thing with dogs. People who wanna genocide pitbulls will tell you that a mixed breed Labrador/pit bull is a pit bull. A lab can birth an out bull, but a pit bull can’t birth a lab.

And race/breed are approached the same way. There are groups of physical characteristics that modern phrenologists use to make wild assumptions about future behavior. It doesn’t matter that some light-skinned Black people pass for white or that more people than you would believe can’t tell the difference between Latino and South Asian people, it’s all about dummies making assumptions and refusing to acknowledge that the topic is more nuanced than “well it LOOKS like a pit bull to me!”.

-2

u/Acceptable-Minute847 12h ago

There’s also arguments talking about the fact that they aren’t inherently dangerous, as evidenced by how good of a family dog they are.
