To us non-Americans. Wtf does any of this mean?

84

u/Renuwed 2d ago

trump proposed a 250-foot-tall triumphal arch—often nicknamed the "Arc de Trump" or Independence Arch—to be built in Washington, D.C., at Memorial Circle near the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.

Most insulting, it's placement would block the view of Arlington National Cemetery, the cemetery where many of our troops are laid to rest.

Let's not forget St Louis is home to the Gateway Arch, so saying the country doesn't have an "arch" is both stupid and insulting to residents, regardless of whether he means a militaristic arch.

u/Roboticpoultry 2d ago

I’ve been up in the arch. Is the elevator still as sketchy as I remember it being approx. 25 years ago?

3

u/HurtFeeFeez 1d ago

Does it go sideways?

10

u/atypical_lemur 2d ago

Also, please make sure that he doesn't find out the Gateway Arch is over 600 feet tall. He might get arch envy and decide that the one he want's to build should be 700 feet tall.

2

u/Moist-Ointments 2d ago

Yeah that's the whole point of the post.

8

u/Desperate-Address-71 2d ago

It was for the non-US folks, as at the top. But thank you.

17

u/External_Touch_3854 2d ago

Tear the fucker down as soon as he’s out of office

37

u/hansn 2d ago

Or, and hear me out, we don't bend to every goddamn whim of a man, though elected, doesn't have the Constitutional authority to enact those whims.

11

u/Renuwed 2d ago

He's doing most this shit without the usual permissions, permits, oversight.. nada. We just wake up one morning and the East Wing of our White House was literally rubble. Woke up again to our preserved-by-law historical trees cut down. With the man doing everything against the laws, literally the only thing to stop him is his lifespan.

8

u/jimmyTheBlind 2d ago

It would be pretty Neto if there was two coequal branches of government that had checks over presidential authority…

6

u/deeeeez_nutzzz 2d ago

I'm all for naming public toilets after him.

-2

u/TokingMessiah 2d ago

Americans have abdicated. Your president is the biggest con man in the world, a rapist, a pedophile, a felon and an insurrectionist.

Americans won’t do anything because they can’t be bothered to get off the couch. America is cooked, period.

4

u/Meture 2d ago

Not really that but because anytime anyone tries to do something about it they cry about “political violence”

As if literally any other method would work against an administration that breaks the law at least 20 times per day and face 0 repercussions for it

4

u/zlliksddam 2d ago

Time will tell.

2

u/PreOpTransCentaur 2d ago

It has told plenty. This is year 6 of his bullshit buffoonery and it gets worse, and stupider, and scarier, and more precarious every fucking day. And here we are talking about arches and downvoting someone who is very clearly not at all wrong.

9

u/Narpity 2d ago

You can be right and an asshole

2

u/TokingMessiah 2d ago

Your president keeps threatening my country’s sovereignty, so it’s not so much me being an asshole as much as me being rightfully angry that I keep getting shit on.

Turns out Trump is doing his best to pillage and destroy your country though, so it’s Americans that are going to suffer for decades to come.

If more than 1.5% of Americans were protesting more than 2-3 times in the last two years, I might have sympathy, but it’s clear Trump is just a symptom of the disease that is America.

4

u/LowKeyNaps 2d ago

That's not the deal here. We know better than you do what scum Trump is, but laziness is not the reason we haven't put on a performance to your liking to get our country back. I'm well aware that people outside the US don't have a full picture of what's really happening here, and most of what you think you know is blatantly wrong for one reason or another, but if you can get at least one of the major factors here correct and still decide that we just don't give enough of a fuck to get off our asses, then you're far more clueless about the situation here than you can possibly imagine.

2

u/TokingMessiah 2d ago

“You disagree with me so it’s obvious that you’re ignorant and I have all the facts”.

Give me a break. Let me guess American is too big and spread out? Or people are stretched too thin to afford to take off work. No, wait, it’s because health insurance is tied to employment. No, it’s because your government has criminalized striking. No, it’s because republicans have gutted public education for decades to create a stupid populace. No, it’s the right wing propaganda news organizations that are lying and manipulating people.

Believe it or not I know all of the excuses, and I lived in the US for almost two decades. Any of the excuses listed above will only get worse the longer you wait.

It’s laziness. It’s the same reason 1/3 of Americans don’t even vote.

American politicians are owned by corporations. A nationwide strike would have the money masters that own congress forcing trump out in two weeks.

There aren’t principled actors here, just corporations with an obligation to increase profits every year. It’s such a simple solution but it would require getting off the couch and actually risking something, and Americans aren’t brave unless they’re waving a big gun around like a cowboy.

1

u/LowKeyNaps 2d ago

Nobody likes an armchair warrior who claims to have all the answers yet shows such glaring ignorance at every turn. Almost 20 years, and you managed to learn nothing about the country while you were here. That's pretty fucking special. Bravo!

0

u/TokingMessiah 2d ago

I’m not American. Do you want foreigners to come fix your country for you?

1

u/LowKeyNaps 2d ago

Sweetcheeks, do you honestly think I care that you're not American? Despite what your arrogant misinformed mind seems to be telling you, not every American is a nationalist piece of shit who freaks out at the thought of a "foreigner". I wouldn't wish this mess on anyone, and no, I wouldn't recommend that you and whatever nation you represent attempt to "fix my country" for me, because I know better than you do (apparently) how much of a suicide mission that would be. You're gonna need a lot more than one country, and for real, I'm not entirely sure I'm opposed to an invasion to take this putrid psycho out. I don't expect any other nation to "fix" our problems any more than I see them "fixing" any other nation currently living under dictator shit stains.

That doesn't mean the international community can't help, though. There is something very real that anyone can do from anyplace in the world, no risk to yourselves. Don't buy American. Boycott all American products as much as possible. So much of our corrupt government is tied into these businesses and corporations now, and the more these companies lose their precious revenue, the more they fight amongst themselves. This infighting helps bring instability to the existing government. It really helps. So if you can, just don't buy any American products at all.

So there was a plurality of Americans who were trying to prevent this. It wasn't like a swathing majority of Americans voted for this idiot. It was just enough for him to win. So politely do not lump the majority of us in with the rest. We are trying to do exactly as you are stating, we are trying to fight.

Now here is the issue. I don't know what country you're in but imagine a leader who does not give the slightest a bit of a crap about the country itself. Imagine a petulant so petulant and spiteful against members of his own party that if they disagree with his policy he is willing to outright dox them and even have them killed. Imagine a leader who despises literally everyone who didn't vote for him and is willing to have them assaulted, or if they protest near one of his rallies or even in his rallies he's willing to have the Rabid fan base within its walls assault them. Now take that guy and have him give control of the military to an alcoholic who was willing to kiss the back of his ball sack, a congress only defies him when they can get away with it, ahead of law enforcement who is like a Yes Man puppy who will allow people who have screwed animals to join said law enforcement agency, and someone who is in charge of our immigration system who's about as dumb as a sack of bricks and would still fail a test should he take an IQ test with the bricks in comparison. Give them a law enforcement agency that's built like the Gestapo but more out of shape and just as rabid and willing to commit public executions and you have this presidency.

My man multiple people have died by now both in immigration concentration camps and in protest to this regime so politely.

Do not accuse us of not fighting back. I'm not saying this as an American looking at exceptionalism or whatever because I've always thought that crap was stupid but as someone who is constantly watching what's going on. We are fighting and we are dying. It is currently why said petulant child is likely going to try and sabotage the upcoming midterm elections. There are places in this country that are strongholds for his party that are now potentially going to be lost, that's how bad things have gotten.

1

u/TokingMessiah 1d ago

A plurality of Americans literally voted for him or stayed home, twice.

I don’t doubt some individual Americans are trying, but at best you’re outnumbered 2 to 1. No amount of paragraphs will change the fact that Americans chose a rapist conman insurrectionist felon, twice.

So America as a whole has abdicated. The country’s reputation and standing in the world has been eroded for decades to come… and that’s just a factual statement based on what’s already happened.

0

u/Waste_Salamander_624 1d ago

I'm not denying any of that most Americans in the election voted for him. That is undeniable.

I am talking about the here and now. From the sound of it you have not been in the country for a while correct? Or at the very least you are not here right now. So you do not know for a fact what most Americans are doing. You do not know for a definitive fact what most Americans are doing right now. And being a jerk about it does not help.

MOST of us are trying and I do say most. And you want to know why I say that? Because even the most selfish among our population are being affected now. People who are willing to throw other races and the lgbtq populations under the bus are now having this blow up in their faces. They're still stupid I'm not denying that but the very least even they see they screwed up.

But again we are dealing with someone who does not give a crap about the legality of things, so he does not give a crap if people are protesting, the economy is already getting close to being in freefall and he will not care when it does. Because as of currently he is serving another country as we speak, he is robbing our government as we speak, and he's almost on death's door at this point. Right now we could all have a general strike and he would not do a thing about it. If anything the only thing he might do is call us all communists. He has a cabinet who is quite frankly as far as I can tell trying to kill us out right one way or another.

And like you said, our reputation is done so really if anything if we fixed everything right now everything would still be broken. Because do you honestly think other countries would give the slightest bit of a crap? You think that we're not aware of the fact that we are alienating our allies? People's businesses are falling because of it. Both people who have voted for him and not voted for him. What you do not realize you were dealing with is americans have become more aware than ever as it stands right now. Had it been any other Administration they might actually be worried. Not this one because the people in charge never cared in the first place.

All I'm asking is that you don't start calling most of us lazy when MOST of us are trying to do something but also trying to retain what little of a life we currently have.

-4

u/Ass_Blank 2d ago

You do something then, since you obviously care so much and have all the answers. Do something. Bet you won’t.

5

u/ntermation 2d ago

I think the majority of countries are just stepping back... Something something when an enemy is making a mistake let him.

2

u/Meture 2d ago

Exactly. The US has spent the last 2 centuries raping half the world for its own gain. Most of the world won’t cry when they see it crash and fall.

1

u/t53ix35 2d ago

Which fallen colonial empire do you hail from?

1

u/TokingMessiah 2d ago

I’m not American. You need foreigners to come fix your country for you? So much for American exceptionalism /s

5

u/Moist-Ointments 2d ago

Yeah another Giant waste of taxpayer money.

2

u/johnnybazookatooth 2d ago

leave it up but change the name of it so he could hate it every time he sees it. take it down after he dies of old age.

1

u/ichabod01 2d ago

Like anything would be constructed before he is even out of office or dead in the ground.

15

u/C4dfael 2d ago

Ironically (hypocritically?), “it’s going to block the view” is the reason he vehemently opposes wind turbines.

5

u/Betterthanbeer 1d ago

Hiding deceased veterans is consistent with trump’s world view.

6

u/Karhak 2d ago

It would also affect flight paths of planes taking off and landing at DCA. They're also talking about making it some military complex with snipers nests, drones, and the necessary gear to support.

2

u/jaxxxtraw 1d ago

Yeah, that's all about trying to say we need the arch for national security, rather than as yet another vanity project for this stupid motherfucker.

7

u/P_weezey951 2d ago

this man is a toddler who sees someone else having a toy, and they want it.

He is like all of the Willy Wonka kids in one person except for charlie.

6

u/_WEND1G0_ 2d ago

Don’t forget that to try to angle it as “national security” he noted it’ll house drones, snipers, and a large stockpile of ammo.

Unless those resting at Arlington come back from the grave, snipers are all but useless there.

3

u/vlkr80 2d ago

not if he plans to hide inside

5

u/UlsterManInScotland 2d ago

So a monument to a child rapist draft dodger would block the view of Arlington National Cemetery ? , I can’t see republicans having a problem with that

4

u/kinyutaka 2d ago

Oh, and he wants it to be a permanent station for a sniper's nest.

3

u/Kriss3d 2d ago

Also not an American. But is that cemetery close to important things? As in other buildings like the government and such ( I know it's an important cemetery where he wants it built)?

I mean. What good would snipers nest be unless it's a t a location that covers where you'd expect people to attack or something?

3

u/nevernotmad 2d ago

Good point. That spot is useless for snipers. Trump falsely justifies many of his illegal projects by claiming that they are necessary due to national security. He did the same for the ballroom and fencing off Lafayette Square/park.

1

u/Renuwed 1d ago

Not close enough to warrant an arch as a snipers nest. Literally everything that could be a target would be best served by having snipers on-site either way.

It's about 1 mile by air, 2 miles by car, from the pentagon; and we saw how easily that can be breached by means that even the pentagon couldn't stop.

2

u/Kriss3d 1d ago

I figured that would be something like that. A drone hangar ? Sure. I get that. But snipers nest would be wierd as you need a fairly close line of sight.

But Im at the same time not surprised. Lets just say theres been someone before him who had that same idea of an arch with a military complex inside...

2

u/Beefweezle 2d ago

Don’t forget the military installation he wants to put inside it with drones and sniper nests.

"Arc de Trump": horrible concept, admittedly funny nickname

23

u/Karhak 2d ago

He's a moron who doesn't even know there's a famous arch (The Gateway Arch) in St. Louis, Missouri, or that there's way more than 59 countries.

5

u/erocknine 2d ago

Oh I didn't know that

8

u/NIN10DOXD 2d ago

Yeah, he wants a tacky knockoff of the Arch de Triumph when St. Louis has a unique arch that looks like this.

11

u/JetBrink 2d ago

"wah wah wah let me build by stupid gold arch to myself and let me put drones in it and snipers on it to get anyone who says bad things about me because of you're only saying bad things about me that's not freedom of speech wah wah wah"

4

u/tw_72 2d ago

"Actually, I don't care about drones and snipers, I just want my name on it."

4

u/Ok_Cauliflower_3007 2d ago

Just be glad he doesn’t want 2 Golden Arches given his diet.

2

u/JetBrink 1d ago

"Today I'm signing an executive order to rename McDonalds in to Trump Super Burgers of Freedom"

6

u/DropDeadEd86 2d ago

We have the golden arched bada ba ba ba I’m lovin it

4

u/ProfessionalCat7640 2d ago

Trump has been pushing that the US needs an arch built and that the US doesn’t have one and how “his” arch will be great, however there is a very large and beloved arch already in St. Louis, Missouri called Gateway Arch that the commenter pointed out to him.

It’s another example of how out of touch Trump is with the American people and how he continues to glorify himself at the cost of the American people.

2

u/AKABeast18 2d ago

I’m an American & didn’t even know what this meant.

2

u/t53ix35 2d ago

Translate for you: Trump knows nothing about America, from its constitution to its geography.
He is utterly free of education.
But he loves television, and it shows.

2

u/Terrible_Phase718 2d ago

Just sad noises coming from a dementia patient.

1

u/WalkOk795 2d ago

Essentially the twice elected orange malefactor wants his subjects build him shrine. They're happy to do it but paid agitators keep interfering.
