I may be missing some context, but what did the crusty orange ball-sack mean by "the only country out of 59"?

u/Illustrious_Donkey61 2d ago
He regularly pulls numbers out his ass. This is just one more

u/owningxylophone 2d ago
Nah, there’s a more logical answer (which still shows Trumps lack of understanding).
Trump Tariffs were applied to 59 countries, that’s where he remembers “59 countries” from.

I don't think I've ever heard him state a number that is accurate or relevant. Not once. Even to brag about his net worth, he would spit out wildly different figures every time.
He regularly displays that he doesn't understand how percentages work. I don't think the fundamental concept of numeracy ever clicked for him.
I think it's kind of like the cargo cults phenomenon, where Melanesian islanders would build air strips and wooden radios, mimicking their use to summon the planes.
To Trump, numbers are things you say when you're a business guy. He says numbers, and people tell him he's great at business and presidenting, and throw money at him, so he must be doing it right.
137
u/DocSpit 2d ago
He may honestly think that that's how many countries are in the world. Or, conversely, he had absolutely no idea how many countries there are, and spat out a random number on the spot, because he knows his staff and supporters will go on to insist that there are indeed only 59 countries in thy world.
I'm sure Megyn Kelly will be explaining how that's the case in the next 24-48 hours...
46
u/Sturville 2d ago
"Well you see, there's 59 countries that [meet extremely specific criteria], so obviously those are the only ones worth comparing the USA to, and that's what the President was referring to. It's not his fault the Dumbocrats don't know about the 'Golden 59' he was *obviously* referring to."
14
u/TheTelekinetic 2d ago
This is fully what I expect. "There are 59 countries with a GDP over XXXX, and those are the ones he was referring to, because those are the only countries that matter - they're first world countries" or some dumb shit

Either way, embarrassing bro.

According to the table posted above, 35 countries have triumphal arches, so the 59 refers to countries without one.
His "only one country" I believe refers to being the only one with a egotistical shit-for-brains spoiled nepo baby paedophile as president, but he forgot the middle part of the sentence because he also has dementia.

trump proposed a 250-foot-tall triumphal arch—often nicknamed the "Arc de Trump" or Independence Arch—to be built in Washington, D.C., at Memorial Circle near the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.
Most insulting, it's placement would block the view of Arlington National Cemetery, the cemetery where many of our troops are laid to rest.
51
u/Desperate-Address-71 2d ago
Let's not forget St Louis is home to the Gateway Arch, so saying the country doesn't have an "arch" is both stupid and insulting to residents, regardless of whether he means a militaristic arch.

Unless those resting at Arlington come back from the grave, snipers are all but useless there.

So a monument to a child rapist draft dodger would block the view of Arlington National Cemetery ? , I can’t see republicans having a problem with that

It’s another example of how out of touch Trump is with the American people and how he continues to glorify himself at the cost of the American people.

Non exhaustive list. The US got at least 3
Triumphal arches around the world (documented minimums)
| Country | Number of arches (at least) |
|---|---|
| Afghanistan | 1 |
| Algeria | 4 |
| Australia | 1 |
| Austria | 1 |
| Belgium | 1 |
| Canada | 3 |
| Chile | 1 |
| Croatia | 1 |
| France | 15 |
| The Gambia | 1 |
| Germany | 2 |
| Greece | 2 |
| Hungary | 1 |
| India | 3 |
| Iraq | 1 |
| Ireland | 1 |
| Italy | 20 |
| Jordan | 1 |
| Kazakhstan | 1 |
| Laos | 1 |
| Libya | 2 |
| Malta | 2 |
| Moldova | 1 |
| North Korea | 1 |
| North Macedonia | 1 |
| Portugal | 4 |
| Romania | 1 |
| Russia | 3 |
| South Korea | 1 |
| Spain | 3 |
| Syria | 1 |
| Tunisia | 3 |
| Turkey | 2 |
| United Kingdom | 3 |
| United States | 3 |
Important: These are conservative documented minimums, not exhaustive national totals. The definition includes surviving Roman honorific/triumphal arches and later permanent commemorative arches. The worldwide total remains uncertain.

Nothing to worry about here.
Some campaign donating “contractor” will get a $100 million from some Trump-appointed “Secretary of kowtowing to POTUS every whim” department to build said arch. It will magically appear one day made of chicken-wire, paper-mache and gold spray paint and nobody will do or say shit about it until Trump is out of office. The dude who “built” it will never be investigated, much less charged. And it will at least be easy to tear down and be forgotten along with almost everything Trump ever touches.

Then there is an Arch in Manhattan's Washington Square memorializing Washington's inauguration 100 years later.
He lived in NYC. He's losing it.
