I'm a Disney nerd and always wanted to work at Disney World. I wanted to talk with guests from all over the world and make magic. When they hired me, they stuck me in the kitchen with no guest interaction. It sucked
Still, I made the best of it. I overloaded the fries and even hide extra nuggets under the fries. My little way of making magic from behind the scenes
I eventually got transfered to attractions and nighttime shows, where I wanted to be, but the first few months sucked. Disney in general kinda sucks to work for. The job itself is fine but the various levels of management is a pain in the ass
The main things I hear from employees who worked at Disney (on the front end) is that they loved interacting with the guests, but that management didn't treat them well and the pay was pretty shitty for what they expected of their staff.
The pay was ok. It couldve been better but its not the worst in Central Florida
The main problem was the various levels of management. Its very easy to get promoted at Disney. If you are in a position for longer than a year, you are basically guaranteed to move up a rung or two. The problem is a lot of these people (or at least the ones i worked with), have very little management or leadership skills. They are just focused on their next promotion. So they treat lower cast poorly and often dont communicate with each other very well. You have a whole slew of bosses and each one has their own agenda and biases. The first time i got fired (yeah, its a long story), i complained about one my my bosses to their boss, who sided with me. The one i had a problem with fired me a week later for a make up reason.
You know how happy you are to get an extra nugget as a kid? Ranks right up there with finding a four leaf clover, or the bottom of your drumstick ice cream being solid chocolate. When you're a kid, it's the little things that are magic. ♥️🤙🌈
I literally asked my manager about this and they were cool. Disney cast are allowed some leeway to break rules if it makes the guests day better. So long as I wasn't going crazy, they didn't care.
I did this especially at the end of the day when there were very few customers and we were getting ready to clean up. Any made but unsold food at the end of the day gets dumped in trashcans and taken to a facility that turns it into biofuel. Some days we would have 7 or 8 large trash cans worth of food to roll out. I didn't feel bad saving from food from being thrown away by giving it to a guest at the end of the day
