One of the more shocking things about her death has been all the people saying hateful, disgusting things about her because she didn't hate other people enough or something. It's insane. And now this

If you find yourself on the other side of things from Dolly Parton, you've lost the plot.

Same, I've been pleasantly surprised at the near unanimous grief at her loss. Gotta think anyone bitching about her ideals isn't worth hearing.

the antivax are claiming she, an 80 year old woman, died because of the covid vaccine she took 6 years ago.
these people's brains and humanity are truly gone.

I genuinely believe a huge share of the hatred we’re seeing today can be traced back to the last decade of tech companies prioritizing engagement by amplifying toxic, divisive content. Has to be like 80% of the problem. We are all sheep to it.

I appreciate that they are outing themselves. Imagine being able to remind them that they hated Dolly Parton down the road.

u/aStapler Sep 01 '26
You're shocked that people who hate people who don't hate people hate the least hateful celeb?
7
u/IcedGooseMaverick Sep 01 '26
There’s a lot of miserable hateful people out there. Just gotta remember, they have the unfortunate task of having to live with their miserable fuckass selves every day of their pathetic lives.

Hope it was just a crazy hobo or something, and not an intentional act smh

You probably have saved your sanity and not seen the cesspool on Twitter. They’re blaming her for pushing “the jab” and saying she got the turbo cancer she deserved.
It’s so vile I just fear for humanity.

I'm so glad that social media was still mostly in it's infantcy when I was in school. I remember this kid (don't want to give his name) who died during a football game I was at in high school. He took a bad hit in just the wrong way and died on the field. He was really popular and well liked, the school kind of "shut down" for like a week. It was so sad and weird, even at a school that was pretty big, it hit people a lot. If it had been today, people who didn't even go to our school or live in our state would have probably said awful shit online and made it politcal. I feel bad my kid sister had to grow up in this, but luckily she's a great kid and doesn't really do much social media.

u/Merry_Dankmas Sep 02 '26
Sameish. I entered high school in 2011 so Facebook was around and the hot big thing. Snapchat hadn't come around yet and Instagram had been out for less than a year. MySpace was basically dead though at that point and Google+ was struggling to be a thing.
So while I wouldn't say it was in its infancy, it was sooooo much different than it is now. People actually used it like normal, civilized people. Just sharing memes and poking each other for shits and giggles. Sure, toxicity always existed and still did then but that was "This guy is a real asshole" toxicity. Not whatever the fuck it is nowadays where you struggle to comprehend wtf youre reading.
Simpler times man, simpler times. Deleting Facebook after graduating high school was the best thing I ever did. Being thrust in the middle of today's social media as a teenager must be genuine hell. No wonder so many teenagers have so many issues.

8
u/holyfreakingshitake Sep 01 '26
Why would anyone normal ever continue to use twitter. People that pay Elon for verification automatically have their comments featured first, and then that loser pays those accounts for creating "engagement" aka posting the most deranged ragebait they can come up with 24/7. Completely fucking unserious website

In my state, the most conservative Trumpy state in the USA, everyone was quick to say how much they loved Dolly and how she represented what America stands for. A local AM propaganda radio show was talking about how the rags to riches and working hard is what USA is all about and how everything Dolly stood for they supported.
I called right into the show and discussed how Dolly created the book program that state lawmakers defunded and how she supported trans rights when our state law makers passed antitrans laws, and how she preached compassionate Christianity when dealing with LGBT accpeptance, which again our state lawmakers tore down support for gay citizens. Then I asked does Dolly really stand for what you modern republicans stand for, and that she really did stand for the qualities most Americans support.
The host argued superficially for a few moments then went to commercial break. My point is I can see most crazy MAGA people who loved Dolly for her music but realized she was WOKE.

You can go read about it now. Dolly's was likely vandalized in retaliation when a
redditor*instagrammer posted a comparison of dolly's star's flowers and trump's heavily vandalized star. Trump has had his star completely destroyed several times over534

They found out she actively disagreed with them almost across the board. That's the why.

And they call anyone who doesn’t agree with them snowflakes. Projection.

u/HistorysWitness Sep 01 '26

u/FatchRacall Sep 01 '26 edited Sep 01 '26
Realistically? Probably MAGA. They hate kids (once they're born, unless they're r*ping them), helping people, empathy, christian values. Pretty much everything Dolly really stood for and prioritized in her life.
MAGAts are realizing she was everything they hate, and she didn't hate everything they thought she should hate. The most amazing thing I keep seeing is all the people trying to either smear her name, hate on her, etc.. I expected people trying to make her political now that she's dead and can't tell people to stop politicizing her, but I didn't expect MAGA to just give up and hate on her so easily.

Probably because I run in more left circles than I do right ones, but I've seen notably more people on the left decry Dolly as a sort of "false profit" or someone not worth remembering for a variety of reasons - Kid Rock collaboration and not loudly supporting Palestine are ones i see most frequently along with allegations of racism, supporting the Salvation Army and others - than I have those on the right.

Why are y'all wondering if it was intentional when MAGA had vocally turned on Parton the second they realized she provided kids books and supported LGBT? Some had boasted they were going to public buildings and pulled the flag back to full mast. This isn't a mystery.

It's easy to be shocked that someone would do something like this until you click on a bad link and end up in a forum with 20,000 people talking about how Tom Hanks is secretly wearing an ankle monitor because he was convicted of pedophilia in Australia.
If 1 in every 5,000 people are completely out of their minds insane then a city like Los Angeles has thousands of them. It doesn't mean anything about our society, it's an outlier getting attention. 30 years ago most of us would never have known about this story.

u/jhascal23 Sep 02 '26
