Had this same conversation about supreme. Basically they are easy ways for parents to buy their kids things like shirts, bags, ect but hit that “Christmas present” level of cost. Went in about few other things and we were on the same page.

Then I said “yeah pretty much what shoes have turned into as well” and they stopped talking. Said I was NOT right and designer shoes are totally worth it. Fucking things that keep for feet from dirt, rocks, sharp things, contaminated water, ect… are supposed to be designer? You put em on the fucking ground.

Just think it’s crazy how far consumerism can go.

I mean, I don’t know about ‘designer’, but yeah expensive shoes are probably the most worth it of any clothing item. For the exact reason that they support your weight all day and have an outsized effect on your comfort in the moment and the health of your feet in the long run.

Sure, sometimes people pay extra for fashion. That’s okay too tbh, but yes at that point it’s the same as spending for fashion in any other area.

I just found the reasoning of “imagine buying expensive shoes because they touch the ground” funny, because that’s exactly why expensive (can be) worth it.

I have to disagree, it's going to be poor people trying to look wealthy gobbling this nonsense up. Most of the wealthy people I know are very discreet, drive their paid off cars like Camrys, and wear Asics, not Jordan's.

I asked my cousin who is a woodworker. I said what if we found some of the most expensive wood materials and metal for the hinges and you made it by hand and engraved it with his tools or burning it on. He said even with the most expensive materials, with charging for making it by hand vs mass produced there is no way that box would sell for more than $500. He said as it is right now, the box probably cost between $3-10 to make if that. Edit he actually called me today funny enough he saw a news article about the box and one of his friends was talking to him about it. He thinks the box would never exceed 75 cents to $1 for everything including packaging. Shipping would add maybe 50-75cents. So basically he is pretty certain (guy has done woodworking 15 years longer than my cousin), that there is no chance in hell this box even costs more than $2 shipped and ready to sell. Utterly disgusting both because of the grift and because of the fans who will defend the box and buy it. Her fans are old now have to be all over 30+. They should have the fucking intelligence and maturity at this point to call out grifts but certain artists can murder someone on the street and they would stand in support at the trial. Did anyone expect anything different from Beyonce and her abusive disgusting husband Jay-Z? Both had the guts to talk about awards and who gets them this and that. Next thing you know their 9 year old daughter has a Grammy. Tupac doesnt have a Grammy, lol

I get that, but they could have made it better. Especially if they're demanding $900 for it. Stylize the outsides w/ a honeycomb pattern, use a better quality wood that has a gold/honey tone, etc.

I could go to Home Depot, buy some cheap-ass pine, and build this. There's nothing special about it.

The bee is barely visible and otherwise it's an ugly box made of cheap-ass wood. They could have done SO much better. For example: use better quality wood (something with a golden/honey color even), and instead of the faint bee print on the top, do like a honeycomb design on the sides; they could've kept the 'bee box' design but made it look better.

I'm perfectly aware of what bees are and I love them. (I honestly do not like the 'Queen Bey' stuff buuuut). As it is, this is just a greedy ripoff move from someone who already has more money than Midas, for a piece of junk that no one needs. Better quality = at least it's a nice decoration piece, and shows your interest in Beyonce's music/etc.

Some, but a box joint jig makes those corners easier than they look. Plus a router template to carve out the handles, and edge banding glued onto the lid. A first year woodworker could make this, no problem.

If it makes you feel better it looks like she used her balloon knot as the bees head, so that's pretty unique.

It doesn't have four stones in it? What am I supposed to do with an empty case?

Or, hang on, maybe there used to be honey in it, and now it's empty, so it's a useful pot to put things in, like a popped balloon.

Or maybe Beyonce knows we're nihilists, so she's giving us the blackest, most meaningless gift of all: NOTHING!

If anyone gets more than one of these references I'll be amazed.
