this one, if what the lawsuit alleges is true, is pretty undeniable though. He's alleging the song uses the exact melody and lyrics that were sent to drake in a demo, that went uncredited. theres no reasonable "parallel thought" argument there (if true)
I mean in this specific instance its so blatant I always assumed he was paying homage? Like rappers using lines from "La Di Da Di" or the "six million ways to die" punchline
acting like you're the only one who knows what "interpolation" means makes you look kinda goofy bro. It should be credited. A character in the last ninja turtles movie used the line "6 in the mornin police at my door" and ice t is credited. kanye used the line "can i have a bad bitch without no flaws, come to see me without no draws" and mase was credited. if there's anyone here who doesn't understand how this works, it's you. sorry.
He has not literally done that over his career lol, y’all be saying anything when it comes to this guy and it’s always never going beyond what u can see on the surface either.
We need to hear the demo, because without that it's completely baseless. Not to mention the hook he's suing for, "interpolated the 2011 Lykke Li track “I Follow Rivers”." Lykke Li is credited for the song already. So he's saying he copied Lykke Li and Drake copied his copy... we'll see.
I can't imagine how shitty your life is that you make negative comments about Drake whenever you see his name pop up. You accusing me of projecting and being upset when we both know that it applies to you and what you look and smell like in real life, is so funny to me. Try to enjoy your life kiddo, you only got one
Lol yall want to hate him so bad. Lmao. Read the actual story dumbass. Its a money grab. The dude suing sampled a different artist. Drake actually sampled the different artist as well. They are credited, not the random guy who also sampled the original artist. Fuck yall are fuckin stupid.
yeah, i am pretty sure Lykke Li cleared the sample because she fucking said so. this dude is suing him because he thinks the OG (Lykke Li’s) version his. it is not
As someone who comes up with a lot of shit in my sleep or barely awake phase I’m always wary of this. Like did I just create something original or did I just dream up something I’ve heard.
Internet is going to be stupid about this but the guy can’t take credit for interpolating someone else’s song. They would just give the credit to the original song. So this is pretty weak unless he’s mainly noting the lack of a credit from the demo sent which would fall more on the producer than artist
>Fifteen seconds in, Avi was stunned to hear Drake perform word-for-word, note-for-note, beat-by-beat, the exact same chorus that he (Avi) had recorded and sent,” reads the complaint.
>FNZ are credited as co-writers on “Janice STFU,” which also interpolates “I Follow Rivers.” Hirschfield says the song’s hook is “literally identical” to both the melody and lyrics from his demo, which features the lines: “Reach me, baby/ Call my phone and say you need me, baby/ I’m so green, you gotta teach me, baby/ From Vancouver, you a BC, baby/ Pull up Maybach, beep beep, baby/ And my shit came with the heat seats, baby/ Swear my label gotta free me, baby/ Blow on me just like some green tea, baby.”
It will be super easy to prove or disprove these claims. Either there is evidence the plaintiff sent a demo with those exact lyrics and melody, or there isn’t. Speaking as a lawyer, I don’t think any lawyer would say that so unambiguously unless they knew it was true.
What? The complaint’s description of the plaintiff’s reaction is legally irrelevant. That’s just narrative.
I’m talking about the allegations that it was “word-for-word, note-for-note” and “literally identical.” That’s an allegation of objective fact, not emotion. The plaintiff’s attorney wouldn’t say that unless they had a recording in hand that is identical to and predates Drake’s song.
Artists are on the hook for it as well if they're paid. Think back to the Vanilla Ice drama for ripping off the base line from Under Pressure. Production may pay some but since it was unauthorized he would be paying royalties for life if it went the other way. Similar to how Diddy pays about $750,000 a year for sampling Sting in every breath you take.
A large chunk of UMG executives were just laid off, and Drake's next rumored contract with UMG is estimated to be over $1.5 billion. He foreshadowed this on Iceman. But you losers are going to gloss over all of this.
No, you clearly don’t 🤣 “a large chunk of executives” were fired because of a court case that the record label won? 🤣 which executives? You of course don’t say. How many executives? You of course don’t say. How were they in any way related to the case? Once again, you don’t say.
Did you listen to the original song? Almost none of the lyrics are the same as the original song so if Drake used those exact lyrics he would’ve been stealing from the guy suing not the original artist.
I’m talking about specifically the lyrics. The lyrics Drake used and the demo used were totally different from the original song. If they’re the exact same as the demo from the guy suing wouldn’t that specific interpolation belong to him? I’m not saying they’re groundbreaking lyrics but I really doubt Drake came up with the exact same lyrics by coincidence.
Ok cool thank you for answering. idk a lot about music law and I know record labels are shady but based on the article it seems like the dude suing has some legal standing if the demo is as similar as he’s saying.
I’m actually asking if anyone has an answer. If the original comment is correct and this lawsuit is baseless then I feel like I should be able to steal any sampled Kanye song with the original lyrics he added and the only person I’d technically be stealing from is the person who made the song Kanye sampled. Idk a ton about music copyright so I would appreciate some clarification
You pigeon holed loser they don’t give out medals for shitting on everyone and everything. How about you use your time to do something other than jumping on a bandwagon of celebrity hate.
Destroyed as in soundly beaten in the beef. I don’t think anyone with a functioning brain thinks that a rap battle loss would cause Drake to drop off the charts. He’s so plugged in to the music industry streaming machine, that’s never going to happen
Nope it’s a system of algorithms that push “new”music in playlists and artificially boost streaming and therefore sales numbers for artists like Drake.
Those numbers do not indicate interest of listeners, more interest of streaming platforms to push his music due to his online marketing budget being larger than some countries’ entire GDP
Why isn’t he in jail then? Where’s the lawsuit for this alleged predator behaviour? Trust me if he did do it, he’ll get a bunch of lawsuit to get their money
Yes Drake brang a 17 year old on stage not knowing her age. This occurred in Colorado where the age of consent is 17. Calling out an incident that’s like 15+ years old where the woman from that incident already said she didn’t feel uncomfortable. People like you throw that p-word around way too loosely.
Calling a 17 year old a “woman” while downplaying her being put in an uncomfortable power dynamic in front of a crowd by a grown man, who FOUND OUT HER AGE, btw. Mf said “I can’t go to jail man…” then continued to kiss her and grab on her and shit… yeah, I have eyes, I saw the clip. And drake is a fucking creep. Just because one girl was okay with being assaulted by a celebrity doesn’t make it okay lil bro
https://youtu.be/Fp5b9dW1nrA?is=VFgrsrLkOmUi4_Ex
^^^^ Here’s the event in question. Just rewatched it to check. Once he discovers she’s 17 the touching stopped. He does give her a cheek kiss when telling her it’s time to go back to her seat. But again, age of consent is 17 in Colorado, and the woman herself said she didn’t feel uncomfortable shortly after the video was released and she held this same stance during the beef with K-dot.
Tia Owen’s (the woman from the video) defended Drake when the video came out, and pictured is her defending Drake during the K-dot beef. Men who act more outraged than the alleged “victim” are ridiculous. She cleared Drake when she had all the leverage to bury the man. Y’all are entitled to your opinions tho.
“It’s okay because she’s a fan and didn’t get offended or press charges” is a terrible excuse. As I said before, same rationale that makes Trump believe he can get away with ‘grabbing women by the pussy’ without consent. But go off, fanboy
And your stance was, “he didn’t know how old she was so it’s fine.”
Oh wait, then you saw how she explicitly said she’s 17, and switched up to “the touching stopped then”
Oh wait, then you realized we could see the same clip where the touching and creepy ass comments def did not stop, and switched up to “they consented so it’s fine.”
You’re goofy asf, goal post shifty mf. surprised you can even form such terrible arguments with your nose shoved so deep up Drake’s ass. I’m done with you lil bro
i don't give a fuck what the girl he did it to said jackass, he kissed and groped a 17 year old on stage knowing damn well she's a minor. those of us with full functioning brains are allowed to think he's a fucking creep.
Yes he did. He said himself “I can’t go to jail yet” into the mic, and continued to kiss her and hold her against him. Yes she was a willing participant. And yes he is still a fucking creep who should be locked up
Exactly what he said he could/would go to jail for, maybe 🤔
I believe his quote from the video is “I can’t go to jail yet, man! Why do you look like that…” 🤮
Drake did this song on his livestreams last year. It was originally “That’s Just How I Feel” he reworked the song and it turned into Janice STFU, but buying any negative Drake headline is in style these days
😭😭the very first “example” the short used was probably the most obvious example of paying homage I’ve ever seen. That alone lets me know the video is largely biased
“I wrote this song inspired by another song but even though Drake credited the original artist, my version which I based off the same Lykke Li song is exactly the same as the version Drake dropped” lmfao what?
Yea I dont buy it because the original sample came from Lyki Li who is credited and gave Drake her blessing and she herself has worked with Drake in the past. Not to mention Drake previewed this song in the summer of 2025.
He did this with HIS FIRST SINGLE. Took kinfolk Kia shines best and hook melody for U Da Best and tried not to pay him. Kia won in court. He’s BEEN a thief
He's gonna get a shit load of money offered to settle out of court. I really hope he stands his ground and takes it to trial and wins. There's digital footprints on all that stuff now.
He could potentially get less money in a court win than a settlement, but a court win puts a permanent negative mark on Drake's career and legacy. It is also proof that he's a bit of a hack. Settlements seem to be easier to sweep under the rug.
