discussion “Lies” Would Be Better Without Zach Bryan - Single Review
“Lies” is listed as Zach Bryan’s song, and sits on his new EP, “Young Manhood and Other Donatable Organs,” but this is truly a Lana Del Rey track by design, and she owns it. The guest singer’s controlled, ghostly coos are perfect for a ballad of this nature. Racked with heartache, Lana is never able to raise her voice above a murmur. She needn’t do anything more, though. The singer wrings out ample emotion from her softest purrs. In contrast, Bryan is overwrought and pushes too hard with his whining vocals. He is an invasive presence that disturbs the balance of his own song.
The duo’s lack of cohesion is especially apparent in the narrative. Both Bryan and Lana spend their time trying to convince each other that they’re happy in this broken relationship. The writing is bland and impersonal, a far cry from Lana’s solo work, where she would usually be revelled in despair, providing a bookish account of the female perspective. Bryan limits what she’s able to say, and, unfortunately, the addition of interplay and an additional angle doesn’t enrich the story.

He really do be like a guest on his own track, pushing where she pulls back. Lana carries the whole mood and he almost ruins it with that strained thing he does

Lana decided to do the track this way so your dis is inherently dissing her. They both are great in my opinion. But to you your own!
