Im from southeast texas. Ive lived in a very liberal city since i was 18 though, and I’m a liberal myself. If I cut out all the people in my life who voted for trump I’d have no family left. They’re good people at the end of the day, stupid but good and misguided maybe.
I’m also a liberal from texas, but I went no-contact with my maga family. It was the best hard decision I’ve ever made. Now that the veil of “but they’re your family they can’t be awful people” has been removed, I can see them more clearly and am sooo glad to not have to be surrounded by those miserable twats
Edit: I love all these comments taking me sharing a family dynamic as a personal attack and then telling me I’m a miserable asshole without knowing a single thing about my family other than that they’re maga. Sorry yall prob had ppl in your lives cut you off for being maga as well, but you don’t have to project that shit on me lol
Then again, it could be confirmation bias upholding your decision rather than looking at them with any real human empathy. But, you know, they are bad people and it isn’t you! They lack empathy! It’s all them!
And then we can all stay broke and miserable arguing about which one of our owners we like or dislike.
I prefer to treat “problematic” family like alcohol: a little bit now and then is fine. But too much too often will make me sick. Don’t mean I don’t have a bottle in the house. I just don’t have to drink it just because it’s there.
Hahahaha my parents and siblings are broke and I’ve got a very supportive husband, friends, in-laws…sticking with your family simply for financial support is pathetic
I’ve seen people duped my entire life. Most of them are family and they have the best intentions. They’re certainly not stupid. They believe and they follow.
Right, and y'all remember how so many fellow Americans were hurt under Clinton, Obama, and Biden.. some were actually shot dead too on American grounds by their ICE officers? ThEY arE AlL ThE sAMe.
It's just objectively true, if voters are guilty of everything the person they voted for does then we're all guilty... in fact under that logic the only innocent people are those who have never voted
they probably just don't know enough. i wouldnt say all "trump supporters" are bad people, some of them are just misguided, ignorant, or dull in the head.
Using the excuse of "not knowing enough" while we live in the information age is absolutely ridiculous. If they dont know it's almost certainly willful ignorance. They don't want to know, because some part of them understands that knowing will force them to acknowledge that they are shit people and have been for their entire lives.
The information age isn't as great as people think... information is easy to obtain but it hasn't gotten any easier to understand AND it's gotten harder to verify
I don’t really think it’s an excuse. I just think they just don’t know anything about politics and see the dumb shit Trump says and take it as the truth or think he’s funny. Yes, I think they’re stupid. But not all of them are necessarily horrible people.
Even if we can argue that it comes from ignorance, why would you choose to have anyone that dangerously ignorant around? I can't force you to cut these people off, but I can guarantee you that your life would be a lot better off if you did.
I say ignorant as in they just really don’t care or know that much about politics and just see the things he says and believes it. I don’t personally have anybody like that in my life, as my family and friends are entirely blue.
Or - and hear me out because it’s a wild assumption - they have different beliefs and values. Scandalous, I know. I don’t know why people don’t adhere tightly to my specific beliefs and values. They’d be better if they did.
These things are alot more complicated than you're making them out to be. Some Trump voters think you're hurting people by voting democrat. Some people are just wrong and misguided and maybe even duped. It doesn't necessarily make them bad people.
At the end of the day most of these people want exactly what you want. Family, friends, a decent job and a place to call home with some food inside it.
This is true for some of the people that voted for trump sure but to label every single person who did as this is equally as hurtful and damaging towards any sort of progression forward, I truly cannot overstate how harmful having this much lack of nuance can be
They're good people in the sense that they look out for each other. My mom is the only Democrat in her Florida neighborhood and she owes her life to the dumbass Republican who looked out for her when she tried to OD. My grandpa is a full in fascist Cuban Trumpster and he helped pay for me to go to college even though he thought it would turn me liberal (it did).
This isn't to defend conservatives. They are supporting fascism and that's fucked up and bad. But if you think they're all evil monsters who never care about anyone or never do anything good then you need to study more history. The banality of evil is far more terrifying than the boogie man of fascism you have constructed.
It's a massive generalisation. Not everyone who votes for a particular party is a huge hardliner, and the majority are not of the opinion that people will be hurt by Trump being in power. I get that's hard to accept when we can see the hurt he causes, but some people aren't majorly political or have a good grasp or understanding of politics in all its glory. Framing everyone that votes for the republican party or Trump as pure evil, only presents us from being able to talk to them and change some of their minds.
I live in Oklahoma, the reddest state in the country, and I feel you on being forced to rub elbows with these people... sometimes. I get along to get along, but I only choose to associate with family and work people that I have to. I have cut off all my friends who supported this, and have plenty left. If I can do it, you can too, man. Holding them accountable is the only way they might take it seriously and rethink their choices. If they don't, they weren't worth having around anyway.
Difference between caring about your family despite flaws and appearing on a commercial album for your friend that has flaws and has not acknowledged his faults at all. This will make money for Kid Rock and bring him attention. Much different than just being someone's friend.
I think about this with fellow parents I know, even though our kids are friends. It's crazy, but the reality is we live in a society and we have to get along and life and friendships are complicated.
I'm not political but that's some loser shit honestly. How old are you? Genuine question... Anyways, enjoy being alone for the rest of your life because not everyone is going to have the same opinions and preferences as you.
