It’s hard to reintegrate with people who seek to divide us.

You’re right. It’s very hard.

And that’s the bitter pill.

It's also been tried and failed for years, but that doesn't bother you. Because you're not the one who'll lose out from sending other people once more into the breach...

Your kumbaya-ing has only emboldened the right that there are no consequences for their actions, that their useful idiots on the right of the Democratic Party will work tirelessly to make excuses for them and sing kumbaya with them, and they don't even have to change a single thing about themselves. They can laugh at Nancy Pelosi's husband getting attacked with a hammer and still benefit from the naive efforts of the wishy-washier Democrats to reach out to them when they don't deserve it. What you advocate literally just amounts to rewarding them for attempting a coup and laughing and sneering in their countrymen's faces as they took their rights and lives.

It's easy to virtue signal about accepting fascists when you're safe in the knowledge that they won't come for you in particular. Sacrificing other people's rights, safety, and lives so you can have the illusion of peace, harmony, and normalcy again isn't some bold act of compassion. It's selfish, cowardly, and cynical.

And in the context of it already having been tried and failed numerous times over decades, it's also definitional insanity to remain wedded to it.

They see you the same way, right or wrong. I cut people off because I was badgered into it by my own family or friends, then I found them using that as a target to say ‘ha you’ve got nobody’ when I just did what I was told. This recent political turmoil has been confusing as shit for me - I don’t really understand socialising and I didn’t get most are hypocrites or just abuse privilege to make obvious small sacrifices… but only ever to show how good they are. I think I sometimes trust someone who’ll openly say ‘yeah im actually not always making the best choices, im actually a jerk’ who’s way more self-aware.
