Lionel Ritchie wrote "Three Times a Lady" (for the Commodores) in 1978, "Lady" (for Kenny Rogers) in 1980, and "Lady" (a different one than the Kenny Rogers one, this time for the Commodores) in 1981. All were hits. Big ones.
Dude really likes the ladies.

From his days with The Commodores, but I love "Sail On." Such a good message. HIs music was a staple growing up, though.

Essay question: do the presence of lockers at Laura’s school make the video’s premise problematic, or are they just a production error in depicting a college campus?

80's culture was out of pocket. Haha. You make a great point.

I believe Easy by The Commodores will become part of the American Songbook. That being said, Dancing on The Ceiling

I remembered watching the Commodores doc, and Lionel said the rest of the members were sick of the success of his ballads.

His stuff for Kenny Rogers was peak Lionel. I'm not sure he has ever received the recognition he deserves for his songwriting. The industry needs to get on this stat.
He is definitely Gershwin Award level worthy.
Never mind - he got the Gershwin in 2022.
Sail on

brick house is the one that always gets me, mostly because it's so funny that the king of slow jams also wrote the horniest bassline of the 70s. the ballads get the credit but that groove is undefeated

I used to say Stuck on You but now Say You Say Me Hits Harder, bit of a rare one but the B-Side to Dancing on the Ceiling, Hold My Hair, makes me cry

Sweet Love and Just To Be Close to You from his Commodores days. Both top 10 Pop hits too, but kinda forgotten nowadays. Can’t remember last time I heard them on a SiriusXM channel.

Stuck on You has always stuck with me, and the fact that he did a duet of it with Darius Rucker for the Tuskegee album just made it that much better
