I just refuse to care about charts this much, a billboard position has never ever influenced my listening decisions

It still means something to the million dollar corporations. They use the metrics to decide who to invest in for things like licensing music for commercials, shows, and movies.

For this very reason. It’s all a racket, only the rich can play. For all of its criticisms, Spotify has introduced me to more and made music more accessible for me.
