MKR Aus S16E07 - NSW Live Discussion
Hey all, gonna be putting up another thread for our QLD friends when the ep airs thier time :)
21
u/rakuli 4d ago
Is MKR set in a world without any other timing mechanism besides the oven's?
A world with no phones, no home assistants, no telephone callback services?

If the only thing wrong with their food is salt, they are doing great compared to everyone else.
→ More replies (1)12
u/AfterWin3671 4d ago
When the mum was getting upset about the salt all I could think was how I wished she could see how bad the last night was. They’re okay !!?

You’re on a cooking and eating show!! It’s not weird that you have to defend yourself!

That seemed way better than the bogans who got the same score
13
u/strwbrry_milky 4d ago
Their score would’ve been higher had the bogans actually voted remotely fairly

I went through today feeling a love for my fellow human beings. There was a certain lack of pretension in the air; food was plated on weird plates and nobody cared; my chicken's eggs were safe from prehistoric lizards; and everyone had goals in life more substantial than a palazzo in Italy. It was a real coming together of the community -- and it was awful.
Thank god. MKR round two brings the hate back into the room.

u/yeehaagrandma 4d ago
I’m confused, I don’t know who to hate? Someone will have to step up and become the new head a hole. Who will the producers choose this time?

Angus and Simon exist in that type of aussie guy field where they have listened to a lot of the Hamish and Andy podcast and think they too are funny and could of been comedians as well. The type to ring in the show and give the boys their own punchlines back to try and make them laugh.

u/Ok-Contribution7731 4d ago
Id pay to see an oddball season with all the weirdos together
The meat master vs Shane and Jane on who can cook the shittest pigeon would make for great television

And Harrison described himself as “eccentric” and mispronounced eccentric, so that fits.

u/ImNotSomeKindOfDevil 4d ago
Mum would of been the type to worry a lot about salt on food I reckon and they have adjusted to not using a lot of salt, just a feeling
4
3
u/BulberFish 4d ago
Our house is similar. There's so much salt in everything, we tend to add as little as possible in our cooking and our tastes have just adjusted.
14
u/Correct-Active-2876 4d ago
Those bimbo bogans are marking very savagely. They’re not going to win so they might as well be fair

Of course they didn’t have enough salt. Jane already used it all to plate up her entree

What the heck is Zoe on about? What does she mean it’s not a big deal?! 🤯 She’s basically not going to eat anything! This is insane!

She likes sports and competitions. Well it’s like playing soccer but not gonna kick the ball. Just watch it

The disingenuous scoring from the girls is simply ridiculous. They should have to announce and justify their scores to the group.

u/Lost-Property7184 4d ago
Scoring FOUR for those dishes is ridiculous!

Considering they would not stand a chance if they went head to head at HQ - both scores below 6 I thought were quite harsh tbh

Guys when a meal is completed who collects the plates ?
How awkward would a bad critique be and then having to collect plates straight after haha

u/d-wjr 4d ago
Never thought about that 😅
2
u/CockroachCreative740 4d ago
I think production helps with clean up and getting the food out on time especially with stuff like ice cream 🍨 they don’t have a large window of time to muck around walking two at a a time sometimes up and down a flight of steps etc. also their kitchens are SPOTLESS between each course so they definitely get some help with some things!

u/ImNotSomeKindOfDevil 4d ago

I still don't understand why we need to watch the judges eat first. Then the contestants critique with the contestants cooking not hearing the critiques and coming back for the chef's feedback. It's just a whole lot of filler.
6
u/Detrius67 4d ago
Yes this really bugs me too. It used to be they'd watch the judges taste and then get immediate feedback before heading back to the kitchen. Feedback that could have potentially helped steer the next course. Now the contestants stand there like naughty school children while the judges give them deadpan stares while tasting the food. It's like some weird humiliation fetish.

I'm sorry, but the entire premise of Zoe's existence in this season is absurd. The fact she's making out as though she'll be deliberately put out by contestants including (have to check spelling for this strange word) meat on their menu.
→ More replies (1)3
14
u/sslxw1 4d ago
Zoe should have just let the team know she's pescatarian from the start - then they could have easily plated the dish without the meat parts... such a simple solution to not waste so much food
8
u/AfterWin3671 4d ago
I doubt the producers would have allowed this. Not enough drama !!
2
u/Correct-Active-2876 4d ago
Exactly . She’s rage bait . Watch them make her more and more demanding and difficult
15
u/LemonElectrical3359 4d ago
So, Zac keeps disagreeing with the OG’s critiques…. Yet the judge’s critiques are matching the OG’s…. Isn’t Zac noticing a pattern now??

u/Ok_Albatross_3887 4d ago
Why are the OG boys and bogans so aggro? It’s not making for good tv, it’s just bitchy.

Maybe it makes me a little like ableist or something but coming into a TV show/competition where the whole premise is eating and rating other people’s food as someone with very strict diet requirements like being a pescatarian is a bit ridiculous, and then acting as if it’s shocking that people are a bit weirded out by that when you will barely be able to eat any food is complete lunacy.
12
u/Appropriate_Fig_241 4d ago
surely she can see why it would be an issue when judging relies on eating the food cooked right????? 😃

As a vego myself the pescatarian situation is so annoying. In my view, one of two things need to happen:
- People with strong dietary preferences can't apply for the competition, or
- They have to be catered for, with a separate dish (or swap the meat for seitan/tofu) or whatever. Like you'd do for your mates, or like how restaurants basically always have options
As it stands it's a lose-lose situation, and just makes for a bunch of annoying drama. But, I suppose, that's exactly what the asshole producers want, so 🤷♂️
2
u/SmurfSmeg 3d ago
I just wish she’d told the team beforehand, the Mum would have definitely sorted her some plain potatoes and carrots. Sucks now because the other teams will probably learn from this and have a veggie option for her in future instant restaurants.

Angus & Simon seem like they probably have a podcast together. Undoubtedly awful. They have no subscribers, but they buy and run ads with inane banter promoting themselves on all the podcasts I do listen to.

u/False_Collar_6844 4d ago
I'm gonna level with Zoe here as someone who has alot of eating restrictions (both preferences and medical). I have alot of critiques about how meat centric these instant restaurants can be but it is unrealistic to expect that the food will be to your taste, especially at this leg of the competition. Scrape the pate off and move on.
2
u/Infamous-Mention-851 4d ago
Or just have a taste. You’re not allergic - it’s not going to do you any harm.

u/censored_ 4d ago
The girl who didn't even eat the food gives better critiques than the bogans "nmmmyeah it wasn't great"

Would not be surprised if Colin and Manu are told to score up slightly if teams score down on purpose eg bogans and the og boys
7
u/Expensive-Pear-4376 4d ago
Do the bogans ever... not match..? Everything they wear is the exact same thing which is fine and all but it makes it more of a struggle to tell them apart

Almost. I think you’ll find the correct spelling is a big “palette” of food. Nuances.

u/thehealthymockingjay 4d ago
if zoe had pre-warned them that she was pescatarian then maybe they could have left the beef cheek off or the liver pate off that way she could still eat something!!! speak up next time that way less food will be wasted!

Manu has fallen totally in love with the hipster that looks like Colonel Sanders I reckon they will actually end up mates

u/Infamous-Mention-851 4d ago
I think I’d someone’s a pescatarian the hosts should then just offer them the vegetables (+ seafood if it’s on the menu). For instance tonight Zoe could quite easily have had the potato, carrots and gremolata. That’s what I’d do if it were at my place.

u/sceptical-beagle 4d ago
Settle down guys. You’ve been there for a week and hated each other 30 mins ago. The gate crashed vs “OG” is such unnecessary drama
