Never seen so many Pittsburgh Steelers jerseys and bars in my life. Is there some sort of connection between the two areas or is it just coincidence?

Steeler fans are everywhere. A lot of them are from PA, but a lot of them are not. I’m not a Steelers fan, but have traveled a lot and can say with authority that they are pretty much everywhere.

In my experience those who are actually from western PA call them the Stillers.

So true. Been down here for 5 years from Pittsburgh. Half my family is down here and own a restaurant in Surfside. This is Pittsburgh South. Western PA. has been here forever. Everyone else just here because they follow but don’t lead. As far as drivers, I will say Pittsburgh drivers are very courteous and it is shocking how rude the drivers are here. In Pittsburgh, we have hills, one way streets, incomprehensible merges, so we are used to being be polite and letting folks into our lane. In Myrtle, the old folks and the NYC/NJ folks conform to the block and shock. Block the lane so you can’t move over and flip the bird when you do. I’ll never get used to it. My daughter goes to USC (the Gamecocks-the true USC). We bleed garnet and black along with our black and gold. I will say I miss great pizza and great bagels (NYC/NJ/Philly/Pgh), but I get tired of the half-baked (pun intended) recommendations I see folks posting here. I can tell where you are not from the mecca of great food, just saying…. For example, if you don’t understand that bagels are boiled first before baking, then I know you are BS’ing me with your recommendation.

Born and raised in SC, we didnt have a “local” team until the Panthers came in the mid 90s. The majority of people I know over 30 are all Steelers, Dallas, Washington, or Raiders fans.

West PA has been moving here for five decades. East PA moving here is far more recent since none of them can think for themselves and just follow whatever northern Jersey/NYC do.

Back in the mod 00's there was a website www.gobacktoohio.com that just displayed a road map from Myrtle Beach to Ohio. It was good stuff.

As a conservative local, this is accurate. However, my enmity doesn't revolve around their politics (MB won't be going blue for awhile, despite the mass migration, and for the reasons you've stated), but the impacts on cost of living here in Myrtle in combination with city/county leadership catering entirely to out of towners looking to retire here on northern incomes. The issue that I have is that Myrtle Beach is doing so much to attract retirees and everything (our local leadership is almost entirely realtors, they don't care about anyone already here), and wholesale abandoning improving the quality of MB residents.
Myrtle Beach's idea of job creation is 711 across the street from a Scotchman, and it's destroying the ability for locals to survive here.

As a local born and raised in Myrtle, we want you all to leave immediately no matter your whatever. Get the fuck out!!!

On social media a lot of them say “Don’t come, we’re full!” And it’s kind of understandable because the infrastructure is not keeping up with all the development down there. I bought a house by the beach there this summer, and (to my face) people have still been very charming to me. Of course I’m not down there complaining that they can’t make a good pizza or bagels either! I’m from Maryland and I know exactly why I’m leaving. I’m happily trading crab cakes for brisket and chicken and biscuits! Some people unfortunately bring their terrible north east manners with them. So between that, the aggressive driving and the added traffic , I just can’t blame the locals for feeling a little salty about it.

No jobs have been created in the last decade that aren't retail or service industry. It's not sustainable. We can't invite in a half million retirees and offer $13/hour to the people that have to help them when average rents are $1600+ and homes START at $350k.
Cost of living inflation and zero job growth is destroying the ability for locals to survive.

I've never heard a local complain in person, but both transplants and locals will complain online. I guess most locals are just busy in real life, mostly by trying to figure out how magnets work.

😂 I’m from Pennsylvania but I’m in this sub because my dad moved from Myrtle Beach in February back to Pennsylvania. I used to visit him. I’m glad he moved back to Pennsylvania because I got to see him more before he died last month.

There is way too many transplants here, you all should go back because Myrtle Beach is ruined now!!!

Yinzers love that boardwalk. Sewer pipes on the beach remind them on playing in the crick.

I mean, good. The people I’ve met when visiting Philly were heads and shoulders nicer than most of the natives I’ve met in SC.
1
u/antihero_84 Nov 26 '25
Most of the "natives" are from Ohio, south Jersey or western PA. Get mad at other northerners.
-1
u/Few-Counter7067 Nov 27 '25
I’m not mad at Northerners. I like yall. I’m talking about SC natives in general. I’m from here myself.
