Spent almost my whole childhood and teenage in northeast, never faced any racism. Sure I knew I was an outsider but nobody really picked on me for my culture and religion. 4 years in mainland and omg, thank god I wasn't brought up there. Not saying all the people are like that. But most are. And worst part is it's so normalised in their culture they won't even accept it. In West Bengal people hate talking about caste, maybe during marriages sometimes but intercaste marriages are pretty common. So I was horrified by the kind of stuff these northies take pride in. Nagaland ofc doesn't have that caste issue at all. And it's as if they have an issue with everything different from them. Not like Biharis don't eat fish at all? Why would you ridicule us Bengalis for eating it then? I remember there was this Bihari guy who was brought up in Kolkata of all places! And the way he and his dumb*ss friends joked about Nagaland and Bengalis in class, I had to fcking complain to the academic and hostel authorities thrice only then was he asked to write an undertaking and shut up. Dude even had the guts to draw india and china map on the whiteboard (worst drawing ever) in front of the class and write "naga land ??" And it's even worse that the northeast people from my class, the Assamese and Bengalis from Assam and Tripura mostly, didn't say shit. Even the Bengalis from West Bengal were just okay and smiled innocently at their racist jokes against Bengalis. Maybe of course I got picked at cause I called them out for it. No regrets though. Joy Bangla, Long Live Nagaland. F*ck Racists.

Hello lovely people, Iām planning to solo trek Dzukou valley mid Nov, a week before the hornbill festival because Iām trying to avoid the crowd (and rain)
Besides the trek, Iām looking to indulge in local cuisines and culture. Iāve watched a few videos on the Dimapur market and foods but most of them are raw, I wanna try grasshoppers and silk worms and the likes, where can I taste them cooked/preparations? Whatās your top go to spot for beef/mithun, whatās your top spot for pork. I donāt have any dietary restrictions, Iām open to suggestions on what else I should try.
Iāve been told thereās rice beers and different wines, where can I find shacks serving them, what starters do you recommend with them. Iād like to experience and experiment how yāall have it.
Whatās the Wednesday market and whatās New market, which ones do you prefer, Iām primarily looking for top shells( jackets ) and cargos/parachute pants. Please also advice on how to reach either from Dimapur station.
Post trek, I want to explore the villages, whatās the best way to travel to and fro village to village, please note Iām a solo student, Iād prefer if I donāt have to hire a car myself.
Thank you for your time :)

Always try to speak in nagamese with the non local folks, whether they are auto drivers, construction workers or shopkeepers. Follow the ways of the people in south India and let us not be too easy going, though I agree it's a bit much that they resort to violence to impose this rules. Imagine being a rural Assamese folk like from karbi anglong and still feeling lost in translation in their own land.

See the logic of these bengali and bihari peoples. How nagas are mahabharat creatures.

I am planning for 3 nights and 3.5 days in Kohima. I want to explore the places, culture. I also want to do dzukou valley trek.
I wanted to know about the availability of scooty(for 2 days) to travel near places. Do we have these option in Kohima and is it feasible or should I stick to public transport
2nd, can I start for dzukou in the afternoon, stay there at night, come down by next day lunch time?

Okay so thereās been a very sudden change of plans and now Iām going to Nagaland TOMORROW
Iāve booked my train tickets and everything. Iāll be reaching Dimapur on the evening of 17th and my return train is on the 21st.
Iām a Malayali currently in Siliguri and this is my first time visiting Nagaland AND IāM SO EXCITED ARGH !!
I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanna go to Kapamodzü. Like thatās one place I absolutely do not wanna miss.
BUTTT HEREāS THE PROBLEM. I have no clue how to get there or where to stay or literally ANYTHING.
Iām also kinda broke sooo please tell me if there are any cheap and safe dorms/hostels for girls. And how does public transport work there?? Are shared taxis a thing? Cuz I cannot afford to book private cabs everywhere
Alsooo should I stay in Dimapur or Kohima? How do I get to Kapamodzü on a budget? And what other places should I visit? I wanna see pretty places, explore villages, eat LOTSSS of Naga food and just experience everythinggg.
And is there anything I should be aware of as a girl travelling there? Any does and donāts? Things I should avoid?
I KNOW I shouldāve planned this earlier but this whole trip happened out of nowhere
So yeah, please drop your recommendations, travel hacks, cheap stays, literally ANYTHING that could help.
Help a broke girl out šš
Also I donāt have a driving licence, so no scooty/bike rentals for me. BUT I can ride a bicycle if thatās an option anywhere lol.
Also mods pls donāt delete this. I tried looking up Kapamodzü on the wiki but couldnāt really find anything useful and Iām struggling to figure out the travel logistics. Just looking for some local advice
(PLEASE, PLEASE,PLEASEā¦)

Are there any real estate brokerages or agencies in Nagaland?
I'm interested in getting into the real estate industry in Nagaland and wanted to ask if there are any established real estate brokerages or agencies operating here, particularly around kohima Or Dimapur.
I'm still new to it and I wanna get to know more about
how the local property market works, especially apartments, houses, rentals, and property sales.
I'd really appreciate any ideas or any type of advices realting to it.
And are lands hard to buy in and around kohima? As far as I know, we've bought some in Dimapur and it was easy, but I'm not sure about kohima.

Hey, I'll be upfront, I am a North Indian guy who joined this sub recently out of genuine curiosity. To be honest, an average North Indian or even South Indian most probably has never met a single Naga person in their life. We just know that this state exists in the northeast (wouldn't be surprised if some don't even know that).
Although I joined this sub simply out of curiousity, I have observed a lot of posts calling out people for:
-lurking on Naga women
- trying to impose North Indian beliefs and culture on Nagaland
-ignorance of Nagaland generally
While these things are deeply disturbing, I also cannot help but ignore a deep disdain towards India. I am not a political person and neither am I trying to stir anything up. I want to understand what the general consensus of Nagaland is about India and what are the primary reasons for the disdain? Is it simply what I have mentioned above or there is more to it?
I am also asking this is question because we genuinely know very little about your state. If you reply to this post, I would encourage you to keep the conversation healthy and avoid saying anything which leads to getting this post blocked by the mods.
