AMA Hey r/NASCAR! Carson Hocevar, driver of the No. 77 Spectrum Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports, is here before he heads back to Talladega. Ask him anything!
Hey r/NASCAR! We’re Spectrum, and we’re excited to cohost an AMA with u/carsonhocevar, driver of the No. 77 Spectrum Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports.
It’s been a big year for Carson. He picked up his first career Cup Series win at Talladega in April, beating Chris Buescher to the line by just 0.114 seconds, and went on to earn his first spot in the Chase. Now he’s heading back to where it all started on Sunday, Oct. 25.
Carson will be live in this thread on Tuesday, Oct. 20 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM ET to answer your questions. Ask about superspeedway racing, that photo finish, the windowsill victory lap, race weekend life or anything else.
Can’t make it Tuesday? Drop your questions below ahead of time and upvote the ones you want him to see. Carson will answer as many as he can when he goes live.

Since you do a lot of iRacing- how similar is it to the factory sims in terms of realism, and how close does iRacing come to real life? It’d be great to get your take on this since you’ve done the sim so much!

Throughout your career, are there any drivers who you’ve raced against who you’ve felt deserved more of a shot than they received? Be it due to funding, team availability, or what have you?

Howdy Carson, got a few here for you.
Will you make a cameo in Days of Thunder 2?
Are there any sponsors/paint schemes you hope to run at some point in your career?
If you had to pick a nickname for yourself other than Hurricane, what would it be and why?

Who's the hardest driver to pass while making your way through the field, or going through lapped traffic?
Who's the nicest driver to you?

What’s something drivers have to think about regularly throughout a race that most fans are oblivious to (or at least unaware of the frequency)?

Hi Carson! My questions to you are:
. You have had a few Spectrum paint schemes so far this season. Which one is your favorite?
. Your go to Chili’s order?

I have heard a lot of drivers talk about sim time and it seems (from the outside) those who take that seriously generally do better on race day. What things are you doing during the downtime to prep between races? And what is Spire doing as a whole to improve even more for next season?
Thank you for all of the excitement - you’re the first and only Chevy driver I have ever owned diecasts and merch for. The Talladega win got my kids into racing and we can’t wait to see more.

Once the property is entirely finished, what’s the first thing you’re going to do on it?

During Watkins Glen weekend, do the drivers fly out and meet their motorhome at the track or do you ride in the motorhome from charlotte to glen? If flying, is their a nearby private air strip or do you fly into Rochester?

Hey Carson, my niece got me to start following you on social media this year, and I've become a big fan.
Your career stats are a bit of a slow burn. You went three Truck seasons without a win while still winning Super Late Model races on the side, then won four times in 2023 and moved to Cup. So my question is...
Did anything change for you between 2022 and 2023, and did running late models during those Truck years help your development as a driver?
Also, other than Sabrina Carpenter, what music do you listen to before a race to get psyched up?

u/Charte09 Kyle Busch 1d ago
Who’s the hardest to race against in Super Lates or just any pavement late model you’ve raced?

I know you're into NASCAR history and watching older races. Just curious what's your favorite race of all time if you had to pick one?
I know that's a hard question to answer, so, if you can't pick a race, what's your favorite year?

Carson,
When you got the call to take a cup seat what was your reaction? Thoughts, emotions, all that.
I've had the privelage of getting a few LMSC rides and my first thought is "I hope I don't crash this teams only car".
Also Spectrum can you spot me and pay my bill, tight on cash, thanks.

One crucial question I have for knowing what characteristic traits a human possesses is:
What is your favorite kind of cheese? - That is if you are not lactose intolerant.

At the Cup Series level, everyone is obviously an incredibly talented driver. What do you think separates the guys who consistently run up front from everyone else? Is it more about raw talent, understanding the car, confidence, or something fans don't really see?

As a current Holland Mi resident, I’m curious what your favorite West Michigan beach town is and if you ever come back to visit during the summer? Myself I love South Haven and Grand Haven. Was actually in Grand Haven at Toasted Pickle when you got your first win at Dega this Spring, good memories for sure

Who was the driver you looked up to before you made it to Nascar? And now that you're a full timer in Cup, who would you go to for advice/insight?

I know the answers to half of these questions just from being a fan, watching a few streams on Tw**ch, and listening to other interviews you’ve done. Who do you go to when you have a question about: racing? Relationships? Heartbreak? How did you meet Jordan your roommate? Thanks for the answers and your time!!

Totally funny aside but I told my friends Carson was my new guy since Kyle passed, and every time he does good I gush about it. Well, one time we were playing Fortnite and I was watching the race and when my buddy went down he shouted out “Tasukete (help me in Japanese), Hocevar-San!” And since then Hocevar-San has become one of my online aliases.

Of the 36 current full-time Cup drivers, what's your estimate on how many are regular posters on here, including burner accounts? Don't need names, just a number.
