Please be respectful. This seriously is not ragebait. I understand that the majority of us have probably have a winceful reation when his name comes to mind. It's fair to thnik of the huge warts in his game that will probably never improve, such as his lack of athletism and size. These weaknesses make him a defecient defender, who teams will hunt frequently. This remains the reason why he is still on the Sacramento Kings' roster, with no team willing to unload any substantion assests for him. These weaknesses make him a defecient defender. What if the Spurs possess the greatest collection of defenders, who could deodorize Sabonis' biggest flaw. The Spurs are packed to the gills with amazing defenders with Wemby being one of the greatest defenders to ever step foot on the court. For his flaws, Sabonis has a very high basketball IQ and knows where to be on defense, which may may be adequate for what is needed of him. If there is a team that could remain a mid to great defense with Sabonis, it would be the Spurs.
With that dislaimer out of the way, don't you think Sabonis would make everything easier on offense as well as on the boards. He was most successful on the "light the beam" Kings who played at a breakneck tempo. The Spurs prefer to play at brisk tempo, and Sabonis would fair well in this environment. The man is a superiour rebounder, who is one of the premier outlet passer, which would allow Wemby and the rest of the team leak out and play to their strengths. Sabonis is also known for setting bone crushing screens which open up his teamates for great looks. This has been witnessed this past week, with him clearing space for Darius Acuff Jr. While just being preason basketball at this point, could potray the value Sabonis could provide to the talented Spurs' frontcourt. While his lack of three point shooting could be detrimental to the team, Sabonis's high basketball intelligence could mask it. At his best, Sabonis could be the ultimate glue guy for this roster. this man''s compuser, intellect and selflessness would marry really well with the current Spurs roster and could help take the burden off key players so they can be less fatigued in late game situations.
With all this being said, Sabonis does possess many high level skills, but his flaws can't be ignored, the Spurs have the perfect combination of defenders to hide his defensive liablities. However, Sabonis provides the aptitude and skill on offense which would bring a level of steadiness the offense is in dire need of. Let me know what you all think. This year reminds me of when we came up short against Heat and brought Boris Diaw in, who was incredible and brought us a title. I just want to have a conversation, because I just can't help to think of how great this could work. Sabonis only has one more year on his contract, so if it doesn't work, we can move on fairly easily. I think a fair trade might include Keldon Johnson, who was awesome in the regular season, earning sixth man of the year, but came up short in playoffs. We are so close to being a championchip team, but I don't think we have solved our offensive issues from the Finals.
