He already has an NBA frame and is very physical along with having plus athleticism.

I’d say a lot of the time having an NBA frame at 18 isn’t always a hood thing.

u/AdeptWelder3250 19h ago
He has the athleticism and IQ to boot tough. It’s not like he walked into #1 in the country for no reason

He’s fine. I’m not that impressed but we’ve had some great prospects lately. Just seems like a guy that will peak earlier than others and he has some red flags overall I think with his maturity.
And a lot of the highlights I’ve seen of him, he’s playing against a bunch of private school kids in the PNW. Just like Arch did when he was in high school. He looked unstoppable against those evangelical schools with all of 200 students in all grades combined.
I say all that to say: we’ll see.

I will never far disagree a with a time will tell rebuttal. I do believe a lot of people myself included have been made to believe this draft class is just disgustly subpar. We’ve been well treated the last few years and I can see how he’d just be viewed as meh or take it or leave it. I want to believe the streak of good draft classes will continue but only time will tell
Watch his film before he went out to Seattle/ Rainer beach for his final year. His last year just makes it look like Zion in highschool but he had some great summer match ups leading up to that year

Paolo Banchero came from one of those high schools.

Seattle is loaded with talent. It’s actually gross they don’t have an NBA team. That city loves hoops man

To me he seems like one of the more raw projected #1 picks recently. I dont think hes the type to peak early unless you are basing this straight on size and athleticism. Because he has improved a lot as a shooter and a ballhandler. When he first burst onto the scene he was just dunking everything but now hes a lot more well rounded

Has some Scottie B in him but he's more gifted offensively but not as good as Barnes defensively when he came out

I see a little Paolo in him. Big body. Good skills. Slightly stiff.

Ahhhh this might be the comp for him right now. I was thinking maybe Cam Boozer, or like a slightly smaller Koa Pete? But Paolo feels very right with the handle, the driving, the finishing. It's not always the most efficient shot but he just has a lot of tools with a really solid bag for his size.
Overall I really like the looks of this right now, and the touch looks kinda promising.

Stokes has more skill than Koa Pete in just his pinky finger
1
u/NAW_MIP_2026 7h ago
I agree, the comp was mostly to highlight how he uses his size and physicality. He uses his physicallity like a big power forward but has more small forward size and skillset.

u/needapermit 8h ago
I’d say Boozer def a step ahead than him, Paolo makes more sense
2
u/NAW_MIP_2026 7h ago
Yeah small forward Boozer was not really a skill comp, more just a playstyle comp. I don't really know if he has the size to play PF at the next level but he really plays with physicallity a lot like Boozer/Paolo, the handle at his size just screams Paolo.

Wow. Hes 6"7? Very impressive for a guy this size

That sequence where he lost the dribble, grabbed it, picked his dribble back up and drove in for a dunk was preeeeetttttty

He reminds of Scottie Barnes. But i think he has more scoring potential

u/Schmoova 19h ago
He’s like if Scottie traded some defense for offense. I doubt he’ll ever be the defender Scottie is, but has way more 1st/2nd option offensive potential IMO.

I’m confused by him. He seems slow-footed, but he glides when he steps so he covers a lot of ground. He also seems pretty ground-bound until he rises up out of nowhere for a dunk. He reminds me a bit of a small forward version of Cam Boozer, but with more vertical

u/NAW_MIP_2026 15h ago
Small forward Cam Boozer was my first thought too, but I think SF Paolo(non derogatory) might be the real comp.

This has nothing to do with Stokes but I am shocked that Christian Reeves career arc has him ending up as a starter for Kansas. What a stud

u/Amazing_Owl3026 13h ago
He's obviously a great prospect but similar to Sarr he's only number 1 due to there being no number 1 in the draft. I could see him being a star if he improves a ton but I could see him being a 3rd option just as easily

u/Papi_Petty Hornets 9h ago
what is he? lol like what position would he be in the NBA? idk if he’s a big guard or will be a main ball handling forward like Paolo

He doesn’t look impressive to me against Pitt State
That is all I will say for now

Doesn’t jump off the screen that’s for sure

u/No-Sport276 19h ago
The physical tools pop immediately? He absolutely jumps off the screen as a ball handler at that size. Seems super long and athletic.
Doesn’t mean anything yet, but you can basically watch this and go “oh I get immediately why he’s a lottery lock”
I’m a KU fan with tempered expectations. Every 1 overall recruit for the Jayhawks seems to underachieve relative to their hype. Wiggins, Peterson, Josh Jackson, even going back to Xavier Henry. I’m not going to get over my skis about a freshman after a few games.
All of that being said I think his scouting report looks about right. He’s a lead ball-handling do it all wing archetype. He has an NBA body at 18. In baseball you would call him a 5 tool guy. Not every 5 tool guy pans out, but his tools are fairly loud. He’s practically tripping over himself here and he’s still finishing his drives above the rim. Dude is a handful

u/iLiketuttles704 19h ago
That’s alot of text man but I disagree with pretty much everything you said. Looks too slow to be a wing and not big enough to be a true 4. His handle looks unimpressive based off the clip alone (he almost got ripped). Doesn’t look overly athletic or skilled. It’s one clip and I’ve never seen him play so I’m not making any concrete judgements . Maybe he’s a dog with a lot of intangibles to be a great player . Just an observation

Shabazz Mohammad

u/CoercedCoexistence22 Pistons 13h ago
Unlike Shabazz he's not superglued to the ball once he catches it, at least
1
u/Accomplished-Habit38 20h ago
A lot like scottie barnes or something. Much much better than the rest of the awful players projected around him at the top of this draft
1
u/Balsamic_ducks 18h ago
He plays an NBA game already. He looks like a super charged Tyreke Evans or a poor man’s James Harden
