Discussion Syracuse Basketball 🏀

I watched the Syracuse v. UConn game a few night ago (played on Oct. 12). I think if Syracuse had come out and played ball (and, obviously, if some adjustments had been made early on 😭) I think it could have been a closer game for a longer period of time.

They spent too much time in the first half battling from a deficit and then ran out of gas, even with UConn's lulls. And then they didn't have the energy to combat UConn's machine, unfortunately.

So, this post was really just to say that I was impressed with them. And that Tyi Skinner foolishly wasn't on my radar before, but they are now! 👏🏾

they won the second quarter and kept the third quarter competitive for a bit.

Izoje was neutralized, Skinner kind of struggled to get the team going in the first quarter but she was the best PG by the end of the night. the first PG substitution (schmitt?) for Syracuse wasn't good which was great for UCONN's initial run.

the team was smart and took advantage of Strong in foul trouble. her on the floor and having a poor night was good for the orange.

had Syracuse made their early fts, they would have been in it, probably winning one more quarter. but UCONN knew how to start and how to close. those meaty fights in the middle make things interesting. i hope we get more preseason games like it. it gets to be boring when the favorites win every quarter by 10-15 points

I agree with most of this. I think they looked good in the second quarter and about half of the third. I actually didn’t think they took advantage of when Strong was on the bench in foul trouble in the third quarter though, and that’s when the lead started to widen.

But also it was a lot of missed shots, Uche wasn’t getting many attempts, and probably some kind of talent/experience matchup so UConn could close out in the end

That being said, Syracuse definitely has promise but I’m not going to read too much into an October preseason game to decide what their entire year is going to look like

UConn won every quarter except the second quarter. I don’t really see how the reality of the game lines up with Syracuse’s falling short because of how they started.

I also don’t think it’s a coincidence they struggled in the second quarter when they took Strong and Jpop out for the first time and then strong picked up her 3rd foul.

In general I think UConn had more control over the mistakes they made than Syracuse. So it feels like a bit of a disingenuous description of the game.

Also Skinned was great!

So if they would have played better they would have played better? Enlightening.

Also Tyi Skinner played at SMU last year, and hasn't played a single official minute for Syracuse in her life. Dafuq you talkin' about my guy?

No, my point is if they would have believed in themselves, the game would have been closer and not a blowout.

What the hell are you talking about? 😂😂

op clearly referring to the exhibition game. you know the season hasn’t officially started yet right? this is all we have to talk about and skinner was playing. if you didn’t even watch why bother commenting with such confident ignorance? lol
