I’ve seen this film before so I know how it ends but surely there’s no way Doeren is back after this year right?

I believe you seriously underestimate our commitment to mediocrity. A loss to UNC this year might get the powers-that-be to maybe start thinking about talking about a change.

As a UNC fan (and student whose birthday is the day of our game against yall) you’re gonna walk in at 4-7 and blow us out of the water and stop us from going to a bowl game lmao that’s how this rivalry has worked for a long time

As long as he is fired after that I'm good! lol

I think it’s written in his contract somewhere that every win over Carolina gets him at least another year. He’s going to be there a long time…

About maybe talking about a change **

We have the only coach on college football who actively talks shit to the fan base...like, blaming losses on the fans not showing up. Dearest Dave, please read the room.

Yeah, I meant…this dude should be fired but likely won’t. I’ve been a state fan for over 25 years and it’s all just disappointment

We always say being a Wolfpack fan builds character. I’ve built so much character over the years I can have a town.

I've been avoiding jumping on the Doeren's Gotta Go train but after yesterdays complete collapse, utter capitulation, I'm in line for a ticket.

Same movie, different day.

I always appreciate it when Doeren lets me know early in the season not to get my hopes up.

He did the opposite this year though. He said we were gonna get 10 wins!

Time for Doeren to resign or retire

Realistically what happens if we fire Dave. Best case, we get a mid major coach and catch lightning in a bottle and we win the ACC or at least get an at large bid to the playoffs if they expand to 24 teams or something. Then that coach goes to A&M or Mississippi State or somewhere that has double our budget and we try to catch lightning in a bottle again.

Realistically, we probably go backwards if we fire Dave and we all sit here wishing we hadn't because now we're Carolina last year.

The only way I'd want to fire Dave is if we can hire an NC State guy who would be here for life after having success and there just aren't really any names that fit that description. We could gamble on Philip maybe?

Look at what big programs are paying coaches that are very small upgrades over Dave. We're paying Dave half. We just don't have the budget to compete and we're outperforming our budget every year. Everything I've read since our loss is "Where will Jake Dickert (WF Head coach) be next year." I'd rather just keep Dave, keep beating Carolina, and keep having a good home record so we can enjoy the games we go to.

Programs run on booster dollars. We are simply not going to get as much money from donors if Doeren stays.

You're right that one of our best cases is being a launching pad for an up and coming coach.

However that's not as bad an outcome as it was pre-NIL when you had to worry about replacing recruits that de-commit after a coaching change.

Assuming a coach has to have some major success before leaving, you'd have the fan interest and booster money from that success to just buy new players (and a new coach) on the open market.

If we repeat that cycle (success > good hire > fundraising) 2-3 times over the next two decades *maybe* State can become a legit powerhouse for a while. Maybe.

But who are we kidding. We'll keep Doeren to save $10m and bc we convince ourselves we'll lose the Rivers kid if he leaves. The endless cycle of mediocrity and stupidity will continue. I hate it here.

The issue is that boosters have to give money first, and I doubt they do it again after the Will Wade debacle. They ponied up for the first time in my life and were rewarded with a lot of hype, a subpar season, and an embarrassing exit. Donors don't want that again, that's why we have Justin Gainey instead of the flashy mid major hire. Boo would need to go to donors and know he has money like UNC did w BB before he could pull the trigger. I agree that it's a losing mindset, but we have a loser for an AD. We need Debbie back.

Good point on the Will Wade debacle and I agree Boo is a dipshit. Firing DD midseason and using the time to shmooze boosters and get a head start on the search (like VT did last year) is the smart move that he unfortunately won't make.

Debbie is a wonderful member of the Wolfpack family, but she was not a great AD. Outside of the Wes Moore hire, I'm not sure what her legacy is. People also forget that she left Maryland in financial ruin, which directly led to them leaving the ACC.

I think it's time to get rid of Boo and Dave and start fresh.
