VS Battle Pain vs İtachi

Post image

In my view, when assessed from a philosophical and literary perspective, Pain is a far better-written character than Itachi. Itachi really is a magnificent character, and I was an Itachi fan right up until the 2020–23 period; he’s still a character I love very much, but he cannot be counted amongst the top three best-written characters in the Naruto universe.

In terms of power, however, Pain is definitely in a much more advantageous position thanks to his ‘Hax’ ability and his clones; if Itachi does not fight in his Edo form, the battle ends very quickly and Itachi loses.

In terms of characterisation, my ranking would be as follows:

1. Sasuke

2. Pain

3. Obito

4. Naruto

5. Itachi

I'm going to be so honest, I don't think Itachi is well written. I know that's a cardinal offense to say, but he's REAL close to being a Mary-Sue. He's good at everything. He did a bad thing, but it was the only choice he had. Every decision he made was actually the right one because everything worked out. He only lost one fight and he did it on purpose. He zero diffs Kakashi and Orochimaru. He's actually a double agent that no one knows about AND he has an all powerful sword and shield that never gets elaborated on why or how he has it. He seems like someone's over indulgent OC.

And his foreshadowing is terrible. He's a good guy, we promise, but he did show his little brother the genocide of his clan thousands of times. And sure, Sasuke was going to get absorbed by Orochimaru if not for Oro's body failing (something Itachi had no knowledge of or hand in), but because of divine intervention he never really faces consequences.

while i do agree that itachi doing that is fucked up i disagree by saying his foreshadowing is bad, in the sasuke retrevial arc it’s hinted that itachi is being pressed by his father to attend meetings and how other uchihas were furious at him for not attending meetings and linked it to the death of shisui, also in his introduction all of his actions were explained, it was explained why he perfectly showed up at that exact time and kakashi wondered why exactly itachi didn’t kill him when if he was pure evil he wouldn’t have to, it also explains besides just pure plot as to why he didn’t kill sasuke when he had many opportunities too

As I said, when evaluated in terms of philosophy and literature, Pain has a more comprehensive and complex writing style.

I can see itachi outsmarting pain but in terms of raw strength pain takes the win
