Summary
I support the draft's goal of moving Nepal's market from retail-dominated to balanced retail-institutional participation. My concern is that the draft is built around controls and inputs (limits, approvals, phases measured in months) rather than outcomes. Controls tell institutions what they may not do; they do not give them a reason to participate. I ask that the final policy be anchored to measurable outcomes, with controls serving those outcomes.
Recommendations
1. Set outcome targets with published baselines. Within six months of adoption, publish the current institutional share of equity holdings and trading turnover, bond-market participation, and fund assets in SME and index vehicles. Set annual targets against these, and report progress publicly through the proposed IIRSS and participation index.
2. Tie every control to a stated risk and an exit condition. Each limit or restriction (covered-only short selling, no margin trading, intraday caps, single-issuer and sector limits) should state the risk it addresses and the measurable conditions under which it will be relaxed, such as surveillance results and settlement-failure rates.
3. Gate the phases on results, not calendar months. Moving from the pilot to expansion, and on to derivatives, ETFs and REITs, should depend on published criteria being met, with a stated review date if they are not.
4. Name owners and deadlines for the incentives SEBON does not control. The draft refers to tax policy and to alignment with NRB and the Insurance Authority, but assigns no responsibility. The final policy should list, for each item, the responsible agency and a target date: tax treatment of long-term capital gains, dividends and securities-lending income; investment limits for EPF, CIT and SSF; and insurer and bank investment rules.
5. Replace dual approval with a time-bound process. For banks and financial institutions, SEBON and NRB should agree a single coordinated approval with a fixed decision period, so that approval cannot be delayed indefinitely.
6. Keep compliance proportionate. Quarterly stress tests, extensive disclosure and a long registration file should scale with an institution's size and risk, so that smaller institutions are not shut out.
7. Hold the regulator to the same standard. SEBON should publish an annual report against the outcome targets above, so the policy is judged by results and not by the number of rules issued.
Conclusion
Controls are a legitimate part of opening a market safely, but they should be a means to deeper, more liquid markets and not an end in themselves. A policy that states its outcomes, its owners and the conditions for loosening its own controls will earn the confidence of institutions and investors; one that does not risks becoming a rulebook without participation.

Thinking of buying MEN after the bonus proposal. I know the price will adjust, but does the current valuation justify an entry, or is this just FOMO? 😅

I am a literal beginner in share market. I want to invest money on share and I already opened Dmat account from Sanima bank. Now I have to make a broker account. What is the procedure and where should I seek for a broker account ?

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice from experienced investors and traders regarding CHCL (Chilime Hydropower Company Limited).
As far as I understand, CHCL has been affected by the Rasuwa floods. I’m wondering how long it might take for the stock to recover and whether there are any reasonable estimates for its recovery timeline.
Here are my current details:
I realize I should have evaluated my position earlier, but now I’m trying to make a sensible decision rather than letting my emotions take over.
I have a few questions for experienced investors:
I understand that nobody can predict the market with certainty, and I’m not expecting guaranteed returns. I’d really appreciate advice based on fundamentals, technical analysis, and the company's actual situation.
Since I’m a beginner, please share your reasoning and help me understand how to make a better decision instead of simply telling me to hold or sell.
Thanks in advance!

This is a natural consequence of the devastating flood, which damaged revenue generation at 3 of its 4 operating hydropower projects. Sanjen can’t sell electricity because of damage to its transmission and substation, while Rasuwagadhi and Chilime have suffered serious damage to the projects themselves.
We’ve seen significant damage to hydropower projects from natural calamities over the last few years. The future is uncertain, and almost every listed hydropower company is exposed to natural disasters. The way to survive is diversification and insurance.
Under such circumstances, will we see a valuation rerating across the hydropower sector?

I went to NMB bank 2 days ago to update my account/demat from minor to adult. I filled all the infos and signed the required docs for both bank acc and demat acc. My NMB bank details and contact number were updated instantly and works normally but my Meroshare account still shows me as Minor and account status is Frozen for debit as well as still shows my parents contact info.
How much time does it takes generally to update meroshare account?

Guys, as a value investor and long term investor.. what do you think of this bonus declaration by MEN? Is it good for long time to hold on, after recent flood problem, do you think it was wise to give bonus and will they be able to give such bonuses in future? Any insights will be helpful

Which app do you guys use for portfolio tracking and NEPSE analysis?
I'm currently using ShareHub but thinking of switching to StockYan app. Saw some good features there. Anyone using it? How's your experience? Should I switch or stick with ShareHub?

The market depth on my broker’s platform updates instantaneously, but the order book on the official TMS website refreshes with a noticeable delay or needs a manual reload. For anyone trying to build a position on an actively trading scrip, that lag makes it hard to read order flow in real time.
Has anyone found a way to get TMS depth to auto-refresh, whether through a browser extension, a userscript, or a setting I’m missing? I’m also curious whether the broker’s feed is pulling from a different data source altogether.
This matters more as NEPSE looks to introduce instruments like short selling. The platform will need to handle far more demanding, higher-frequency use than it does today.
r/NepalStock • u/heykapilai • 4d ago
I assume company due diligence is one of the missing artifacts in NEPSE market.
In-depth DD takes a lot of time and effort, which I can do in the future, but for now I want to validate if investors are even looking for it. For now, I have leveraged AI to generate basic DD so it will give idea how it will look like.
link to video: https://youtu.be/2U9rRQ8Cduc
Your feedback on below will be highly appreciated:
- whether creating such DD reports are worth it, specially if my goal is to have paid subscriber
- content wise, how do you rate out of 10?
I would be open for a separate discussion if anyone is interested.

I think we all agree that Prabhu ko fund does well than NIMB NICA LAXMI, NABIL haru.
So I have been closely following mutual funds, especially Prabhu ko, they had Added API significantly around 200-240 ko range ma, full 7-8% of NAV , same with EBL 500-550 ko range ma.
Ahile recently they picked up TAMOR ma concentrated position, Upto 8-9% of NAV . Feri aru Mutual funds haru le khasai kineko dekhdina .
I'm reckoning yetro position Lina kei ramrai research gareko chan hola, will be interesting to see how this fiscal year plays out Ani yo bet kasari play out Huncha, maybe aru funds are way to smart not to put any money here or Prabhu probably has found another multibagger.

Far more money has been lost by investors preparing for corrections, or trying to anticipate corrections, than has been lost in corrections themselves - Peter Lynch.
Most people are inherently pessimists, and every small news they link it upto lah ava bajar ajhai jharcha. Esari they tend to spread fear aru ma by posting Ani as a result they start to believe their own lie Ani affu le ni under allocate hanchan. As a result they have more medicore return than mutual funds.
