Show & Tell Went to the mothership

Went today with my SO to the Nikon Museum in Shinagawa city (Tokyo), Japan. Ive seen in one place every camera and every lens in existence that Nikon ever produced. Also the hospitality was really warm. At the end you could take a booklet (they ranged only in the Z cameras), i took the one of a Z8, since I own it. They packaged it in a Nikon museum envelope. Also there is a shop where you can buy some small memorabilia stuff like T shirts, caps, porcelain stuff (cups, etc). I bought a pen with the Museum engraving and a camera belt. Here are some pictures, enjoy.

If you mean the Shinjuku Plaza Tokyo, no. I couldnt plan it timely since it is open 10.30 -18.30 and we have all days pre-planned. Maybe i will get lucky, we are staying till thursday. And Shinjuku... O boy. That place is chaotic AF 🤣💥

Ah very nice! That’s the one. This is my third trip haha. Very little planned this time around. I’m staying right beside Shinjuku Plaza so that one will be easy. Will try fit in the museum. Thanks for the post!

Been there 1 year ago, amazing to see all cameras and lenses. Trying the D6 was the best

Yeah, they had around 8 cameras for a try out, even the D6, amazing experience!

If you have a chance to go - you 101% must do it! Every one of us went into the museum with the camera in our hands. The employes there bowed and thanked us for the loyalty, the front desk lady said "thank you for showing interest in Nikon " (in perfect English) and it felt so good 💛🖤

Very cool! I wasn't aware of it; thanks. I would love to go to Japan. Hopefully, someday.

Go now. With the current exchange rate, it seems as if the entire country is having a 40% off sale.

We just got back the other day, and yeah. The plane tickets were the only expensive part. Everything else was way cheaper than home.

Agree, my experience is the same. We went to BIC Camera and I couldnt believe it - DJI RS5 Combo tax free costs 410 euros, while in Europe its 680. Without thinking, I bought it right away. And I was even allowed to open it in Japan, no need to wait till i come home, they havent sealed it into the tax bag.

I looked at buying a z5ii at Yodabashi, but I learned the warranty wouldn’t work in the US. Oh well, it was still find to see everything.

I think they don’t really care about the tax thing lol. Some places don’t even bother with it

So many products. I remember the film era: EVERYONE owned a camera, and in those days, Nikon was #1.

Then what happened was that their incredible conservatism made their loyal customers very happy but failed to attract new customers. And then the Cell phone happened and gutted the entire industry.

But this collection shows off Nikon's glory days

Well Canon switching was the real death knell. Nikon kept their captured market, but Canon leapt ahead and got sports shooting etc.

Before going to the museum I already knew I will make photos for everyone to see the goodies they keep there. Maybe this will motivate someone to go and see it for themselves.
