Nah it’s more BUT he detained immigrants and prevented them from reaching European shores (don’t ask how) and that’s why a lot of people actually like him. A lot of people were/are fine with a dictator in Libya as long as he stops the boats with whichever means necessary (for example that is why the Italian government kept him alive for so long by telling him the plans for missile strikes on his estate in advance, and was very much opposed to removing him).

i'm not really sure about using him to keep the area destabilized - he was the main stabilizing factor in Libya. he basically hollowed out all the country's institutions, which is why when he was overthrown the entire country just collapsed. and i'm not sure what the US gains from libya being a warzone.
the west did try to rehabilitate him, though. he finally handed over the suspects responsible for the lockerbie bombings (the reason why the sanctions had been placed in the first place), paid a bunch of reparations to the families of some of the foreigners he killed, and got rid of his weapons program. he didn't have actual nukes, but he did have a nuclear program and repeatedly tried to get nukes from pakistan. he also gave up the shit ton of mustard gas and other chemical and biological weapons he had and stopped funding random terrorism groups. and lastly, he allowed foreign companies to start drilling for oil again.
so the "NATO killed him because he would've united other countries against them or to destabilize the region" argument doesn't really hold much weight with me - the west pretty much had everything it wanted from him and thensome.

Not to be too credible but it likely had nothing to do with the weapon bay doors. The F-117 is not perfectly stealthy in EVERY radar bandwidth, that would be difficult for even a modern stealth aircraft- the higher bandwidth of the specific radar type they were using in the area meant they could get the fuzzy shape of the F-117 regardless of what the weapon bay door was doing. Of course, that doesn’t mean they could really get a missile lock, but the unit commander in the region also had spotters ahead of the radar installation to help provide bearing and approximate range/height. More than one missile flew at the F-117, but only one really did damage, which is itself pretty lucky. Also, they weren’t really exposing themselves to SEAD, as the F-117 had no RWR to tell when it was getting locked up. They also very specifically limited the time they had their radar engaged to remove that risk.
However, most of the credit should probably go to the United States Air Force for letting the situation come about in the first place.

I think most people just carry the sentiment that Serbian nationalists and war criminals weren't persecuted hard enough. Realistically Serbia faced little to no consequences (beyond the sentencing of a select few) for the atrocities its armed forces committed and seeing as nationalist sentiment is on the rise again, this doesn't surprise me the least bit. Like, IMHO Nato should've gone full Nuremberg trials on the Serbian leadership, because as far as I can tell, that seems to be the only effective way. Too bad nobody in charge seems to learn the valuable lessons History provides for free.
