Baldwin is kinda polarizing tbh, but I don’t know if she really has any downsides to teaching, maybe of an aggressive personality but thats really it. She gives you a shit ton of great practice work (and mandatory aleks) - if you do it all, and understand it all, ur gonna be golden. Exams imo were very similar to past exams/and problem sets

Meaning she’s the best professor and you’ll learn a ton, but if you’re concerned about GPA, avoid her

I will also say baldwin. She is very nice to you as long as you put the effort in and show you care. So showing up to her office hours, asking questions, showing you are trying and want to do well. Even still, her nice is still blunt sometimes. I had her for Ochem 1 and when i retook ochem 2. I had gotten a 96 on the second 0chem 2 midterm and during finals prep was at her office hours, and asked her a silly question. for which she called me out for and said “come on that’s something you should absolutely know by now” and let me figure it out on my own. This being said, she is an amazing professor and will give you all the tools you need to succeed, so long as you put the effort in.

Honestly recommend McGrier. His practice exams are pretty similar to the actual exams. You will have to teach yourself a lot of the material tho bc he does go pretty fast in lecture but I usually just watched YouTube videos that had practice problems.

Dr Chang

Chang was a really nice guy who i liked as a person, but i struggled with his lectures. The whole idea where he pulled lots of his exam questions from his slides and stuff messed with me and led to me trying to memorize his slides rather than learn the material, which i understand is a skill issue and my fault

I would definitely go with parquette! His teaching style is kind of iffy but at least he records lectures and also those weekly quizzes are done with a small group rather than alone like other professors. Oh and there is an opportunity to earn 10% extra credit on your grade if you do the EC questions in class!!

I love Dr. Chang, he is my goat. Very approachable guy who wants us to succeed in his class. His exam averages aren’t the best in the world, but every question was either in a previous quiz or recitation worksheet and he tells us in advance which of these questions he will be asking. I’m excited to take ochem 2 with him next semester!! Lmk if u have any questions :)

I have two opinions. This is not an easy class no matter which professor you choose.

If you're neurotypical Dr Baldwin is an amazing professor. She will not only teach you everything you need to know for ochem 2 but she is a great resource to get a letter of recommendation from. She is a blunt person though and a lot of people are put off by that. However she gives you all of the resources you could possibly need to pass that class and a lot of other professors use her work to give their students extra help so if you want it from the source she's great. Go to office hours and TA hours and work your butt off. She's gives exam review, practice sets, practice exams, all the videos are online, she's a resource goldmine. High energy and talks like a Gilmore girl which is great if you have ADHD and watch things on 2x speed.

If you're neurospicy however I would recommend taking Dr Walters during the summer. She's calmer and slightly slower, she's the most like Dr Baldwin in terms of the content taught in my opinion and she uses a lot of Dr Baldwin's resources as well. I highly recommend going to the office hours the professors hold in the mornings before class as this is when you can typically get the best help. She doesn't talk quite as fast as Dr B and she doesn't provide the same amount of resources or have the videos posted like Dr B does but she still has a lot. There's just something about the way she explains things that clicks better in my mind.

Neither one of them grade solely on exams and both give you other work to help you even out your scores a little bit. I personally preferred the way Dr B had hers written but looking at them both the content is very similar, it's just worded slightly different and they both have curves so those are the choices I'd recommend.

Good luck!
