Announcement Welcome!

Hello! And welcome to r/OcarinaOfTime, the subreddit for the discussion of the game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, a game produced by Shigeru Miyamoto for the Nintendo 64, Gamecube, 3DS and Switch from 1998 - 2021.

Now, you may be wondering why this subreddit has suddenly been made public after laying dormant for over 9 years. As of today, this subreddit is under new ownership, after being abandoned by it's previous owner.

In future I hope to grow this community, and I look forward to doing so.

What’s your guys most anticipated moment/spot/thing in the upcoming remake ? For me, it’s the shark at the lake lab. Wondering I it will be alive & realistic or just another still model chillin behind the cage lol.

So jealous of Canada's Ocarina of Time bonus

I'm so jealous of the bonus Canada is getting! I'm from Korea, and honestly, the coin we're getting is pretty nice too. But still, Canada's bonus just hits different. It has that classic, nostalgic Zelda vibe that I miss so much.

Don't sell yourself short there kid...

This is on Ship + HD Textures. With my suspicions raised due to an earlier crash out of the blue, I saved immediately after the dialogue closed and sure enough it crashed as soon as I stepped away from him. When I reloaded the save he was still like this but I didn't interact with him again. I looked but couldn't find any other examples of this happening. Does anyone know if this is a known thing and I just didn't turn over the right rocks, or did I manage to find something new?

Ocarina of time 3ds sold almost as much as the N64 version, OOT is familiar to many generations, where do you think the remake will finish in the rankings?

Im gonna make a bold prediction and say itll pass tears of the kingdom. Definetly not in the first year but eventually. I dont see BOTW being passed because it might be hard for the switch 2 to sell enough consoles.

BOTW only sold 3m its first year, but it was so popular that it contunied to sell more and more. It sold more in many of its following years than it did in its launch year. I think over time OOT remake will be a staple switch 2 game just like Smash bros, BOTW and Odyssey.

Discussion Ocarina of Time's new art style is growing on me

I was originally super upset about the art style Nintendo chose for the new Ocarina of Time remake but I have to admit, it's growing on me.

By having said that, I changed my mind and preordered the game and increasingly do get more excited about it.

However, I still firmly believe that the remake could've been on another level if they had stuck to the old stylized cartoon art style mixed with real elements.

I'll probably love the new remake for what it is but to me personally, as someone who played the game when it was released, it's not a faithful recreation and by that very experimental.

Discussion Place your bets: will Nintendo have the balls to recreate the original OoT TV commercial for the remake?

• Upvotes

The original commercial for OoT became iconic to the point that the Big N used it as a model for the Twilight Princess reveal at E3, and later recreated it during the OoT 3D marketing campaign. It's enough of a tradition that it seems like a natural thing for them to do leading up to the remake.

The commercial in question: https://youtu.be/JntHVUp7m4E?is=1TdBinNefk0tcMAA

Official 3DS remake version: https://youtu.be/Jfg6RfClZJg?is=OIPJ0UWYMEfbvuiT

What do you think? Willst they soar? Or willst they suck?

With Zelda's 40th anniversary coming up, I wanted to create something special!

I designed a custom Zelda-inspired skin for the Switch 2, including the Joy-Cons, console back, and dock. Each piece has its own details, but everything comes together as one complete design.

Finally finished the whole setup and put together a video to show it off!

What do you guys think? 👀

This remake is the first time I’ve ever pre ordered a game in my life

I’ve never played the original version on the N64 as I didn’t own one or have any family or friends who did. But I did play the 3DS version years ago when I was little. I never finished it back then because I was stupid and didn’t know what to do but I bought it again earlier this year after losing my original cartridge and finally beat it for the first time.

I don’t know why exactly but this game means a lot to me. It’s the first Zelda game I’ve ever played (currently playing A link Between Worlds for the first time too) and I just loved it from start to finish. The atmosphere of the game, the music, the different locations, everything just hits different. I never grew up playing the originals and don’t know why I even got so into this game, but I did.

I’ve never used a switch 1 as I lived under a rock when it came to Nintendo when it first came out so I completely missed that console. I heard about the switch 2 when it came out last year but wasn’t fully into gettibg one straight away. At first I was just thinking of getting a switch 1 lite or oled to play older games I missed. But then this remake announcement was definitely the main thing that nudged me more in the direction of the switch 2.

As the title says, I’ve never pre ordered anything before but when I watched that short first reveal and the trailer I was feeling really excited for it and was enough to make me pre order. I never really spend a lot of money on myself so this marks the first ever console I’ve bought with my own money from working.

Anyway I know this is a long post but I just felt the need to share my thoughts and maybe someone can relate.

Screenshot New type of chest… Spoiler

Someone during their preview decided to wander off towards Gerudo Valley, and found this locked chest.

Navi also says “Hm... I don't think we'll find a key lying around.
Seems like there's not much we can do for now.”

I wonder if these are adult-only chests that open up later in the game? Or maybe after a certain key is found or trigger is hit? Could give more reason to explore the overworld as an adult.

Discussion Should I play the 3ds game before the new switch 2 remake? (never played before)

I've been playing different Zelda games a while ago, and since I had a convenient 3ds, I tried the 3ds remake of Ocarina of Time. However I couldn't find the motivation or time (no pun intended) to play much - I still haven't gotten out of the Deku tree, I think.

I'm very excited for the remake and can't wait to play it - especially with the option to sing the notes of the ocarina as someone with a perfect pitch haha - but I'm not sure if I should finish the 3ds game before the new one.

On one hand, I already know the core "plot beats" of the story, and I want a comfortable gameplay (the new UI sounds good). But on the other, I'm worried that with all the new added features of the remake it could be too much to take in at once. (However I really enjoyed Breath of the Wild, so maybe my worries are unfounded...)

Maybe I should abandon the 3ds game and play the original on an emulator for the atmosphere??? I don't know at this point.

Edit: Wow, I never expected such an amount of replies with such an unanimous opinion haha. I'll play some other Zelda game while waiting for the switch 2 remake :]

Question Anyone see footage of sword being drawn?

• Upvotes

Only footage I've seen is pulling out the sword with an attack. Like in OoT/MM. Haven't seen anyone just unsheath sword like in WW/TP and onward. Is there any confirmation on this? You can really not unsheath your sword without attacking?
