To the people upvoting the comment saying the person should have picked up the octopus: I am surprised so many people on this sub do not understand that
The octopus is heavy, slippery, and unwieldy. It would probably take two people to effectively pick that thing up and toss it over.
Picking it up can risk injuring it.
Making contact with ocean life risks transmitting foreign pathogens from us to them. Their immune systems are not designed to handle the pathogens that we handle, and this can easily kill them.

I read “sneezing” smh.
Also I believe octopuses can squeeze through any hole, as long as their beak can fit.

That is extreme!
There's no point trying to help them. They're already cramming themselves through the hole. They'd have to pick up the large, wet, heavy, octopus. And pull them out. They'd get stressed or hurt.
If they were walking near a door they could. But they're already escaping through a hole.

Give the poor guy a hand, and just throw 'em overboard...instead of making him squeeze thru the tiny freakin hole.....Plus I wanna kill this camera man. /s
Edit: added /s for those who thought I was serious. I know not to tangle with anything in the ocean. Ive been suba/cave diver for 12 yrs. I figured the comment about the cameraman was enough to let you know I was kidding.

If someone tried to pick it up, the octopus would undoubtedly think it’s under attack and suction itself down and refuse to let go. Plus the guy was too busy being the shakiest cameraman ever

....yeah, your right, I didn't think about the octo suctioning down, then ya got a bigger problem! Should just toss the cameraman over board, he sucks..

Do you have any idea how heavy, difficult to hold, and strong this creature is? Leaving it be was the correct decision. Handling it could have hurt it or transfer foreign pathogens to the creature.

Very ignorant comment. Wild animals are always better if left alone. Learn something and do better.

Do you know what sacrasm is, I didn't know I had to put the /s there for the ignorant...so I edited my post. I've been a scuba diver/cave diver for 12 years, I figured the comment about the camerman, would be enough. You have no idea who I am. Do not insult me.

u/Mister_Way Oct 10 '24
That is not the appropriate way to think about wild animals. WTF dude, if it's handling its own shit, stay the fuck away.

u/Lyna_Moon21 Oct 11 '24
WTF dude....ok time to explain..again. Sarcasm. I figured when I wrote about the fuckn idiot camerman, that was enough, guess not.../s..... I edited my post for you, I've been a scuba diver/ cave diver for 12 years. I know what the ocean is like, and how to handle it. So, you stay the fuck away.

Sarcasm is difficult to convey over text. If you aren’t explicit about it, people may think you are legitimately giving harmful advice.

Are you okay? You seem quite on edge. I was not trying to write a “nasty” comment. I was genuinely trying to point out what was happening.
If you look at the other comments here, people (including myself) clearly could not pick up on your sarcasm. It’s a pretty common occurrence online, and it’s just good to keep in mind for the future.

Leave it alone, it's over. I really have no desire to continue any conversation with you..

Suit yourself. I’d rather not talk with someone so full of themselves that they would belittle others just for having an anime character in their username.

u/Lyna_Moon21 Oct 11 '24
You must be like 15 to use that crap as your username, cause only children use Pokemon and anime. So stop HARASSING me. It's 3:24am in the morning. My guess is you do not live in the USA.

So you said something really stupid and you assume people would know you, a random idiot on the internet, are just pretending to be stupid, not that you really are stupid.
And you think I'm the one who made a mistake?

You are making no sense, you really are uneducated:
"So you said something really stupid and you assume people would know you, a random idiot on the internet, are just pretending to be stupid, not that you really are stupid." So, I'm stupid, but I'm not really that stupid. wtf does that mean? Ever heard of innuendo.
And don't come at me in a post, telling me what to do about anything. So stop posting your incomprehensible senteces. You insult me in one sentence, then take it back. Stop replying, pls, because all you've done is insult me.

I think they actually have to check if their beak will fit since I'm pretty sure that's the only non-malleable part of their body. Octopuses are the fucking best

Calamari is squid

Yeah ikr they belong in the same family lmao what are you up to? Trying to have beef with every comment? Get a life
3
Oct 10 '24
Btw it's calamari, not calamares. The only other comment i replied to, i was agreeing with them, so maybe you had a stroke or something, but sure, let's have beef. We could have sheep, goat, antelope, buffalo, or bison. They're all "beef" by your standard, since they're in the same family as cows.

Same family doesn't mean the same name in food. Basic intelligence isn't hard to have.
I never thought someone would be throwing a tantrum over being corrected but here we are. School must have been rough for you.
