Absolutely not. You'll only be disappointed afterwards. I know I always am.

No you most likely passed on them for a reason or they are from abroad.

No. Do yourself a favor and delete OKC into a black hole, never to be seen again.

I hated the mysterious ones that I couldn't see on a free membership so I paid for a few months, but after a while something broke in the algorithm and the site itself started breaking down so I deleted my account once and for all about a year ago. No significant lasting matches. I get more quality matches on Bumble tbh.

Did once , most of them were from far away(Kenya, Philippines, ....), the rest were ones that I swiped left on for a very good reason.

I have premium for almost 3 month and never had a like from another country, probably because I don't want it in my preference and limit my distance to 25km (so only people who are within my area can like me) and set it as dealbreaker...
only someone with a vpn could do it, but I think it depend heavily where you live, for example in paris you might fall on more scams and false people trying to get passport and stuff, also vpn is forbidden on okcupid and if the app detect a vpn active, it automatically ban you.

as a man, I think premium is important, you can send unlimited intro and likes, and I think without it I would've gotten way less matches (since average looking guys get way less attention...)

at some point the pools of people get lower (after like a month or two) and you get way less interaction (likes/matches) but I personally still get interesting matches.

I believe the best is to take premium for 2-3 month, and then switch to another dating apps and get premium, but on okcupid stay on your free account anyway, and maybe pay premium for another 2-3 month after like half a year/a year.

but you do you.

None of the dating apps are worth paying for access. I’ll stay single before I pay anyone money to get into an algorithm
