I was there tonight. Paolo looks insanely good. Vucevic is top class re-addition. WTF Penda, Jase & Franz injured in a pre-season. Bane still awesomely Bane. Da Silva stepping up. Cain is on the verge of what we need.
I miss AB.

u/RollingAHogie25 19h ago
Paolo's weight loss is really going help him. He looks so much quicker and looks like he has a lot more energy. Last year it was kind jarring how heavy he looked in his uniform. As long as he stays healthy I think he is in for a big year.

Im not watching but i saw the IG post about franz getting injured?! What happened??
2
u/Effective_Ad4606 Jalen Suggs 21h ago
Took a deep 3, looked visibly in discomfort right after and started holding his shoulder. JT also mentioned he took a hit on the same shoulder on the prior defensive possession
1
u/green_mean_machine 21h ago
The injury happened the posession before when he swiped down hard and jarred the ball loose. Immediately grabbed his shoulder/triceps area. Took a three the next posession but was in obvious discomfort

u/NikThaGreat9 Jalen Suggs 21h ago
Davison looks way bigger than 195 to me. Carter is listed at 190 and only an inch shorter. Davison looks like Paolo compared to him. Either way we need to sign him.

Can’t believe we got the all star version of Mo Wagner to replace him in Vucevic.
He’s the sort of player that’s just gonna keep the scoreboard ticking over when the starters are out and that’s a big piece we’ve been missing lately.

This offense preview already looking way better than with Mosley but he was a really good development coach

u/Muted_Lead_1105 21h ago
Franz just got a bruise it seems like. Nothing a little stretching and massage gun can’t handle
3
u/WinDisastrous8493JWY 21h ago
If it was major the guys wouldn’t be sitting on the bench. Penda and that hammy is a little concerning.
1
u/Tardypop1 Cole Anthony 21h ago
I think they’re just sitting out the guys out for the lols and pre season. We got the scrub squad in anyways
1
u/ArKiVeD 21h ago
Penda, Jase, and now Franz? I didn’t see any of them happen. Did any of their injuries look bad?
1
u/centralfloridadad 9h ago
Penda's hamstring is likely the most serious and it looked really mild as Hammys go. Jase had soreness in his lower back, and that should heal up long before his hangover this weekend recovers. Franz should be fine.

3
u/Tardypop1 Cole Anthony 21h ago
I didn’t Franz or Jase. Penda grabbed his leg and just walked to the locker room.

Let the record reflect that we now have three injuries tonight: Jase, Noah, and now Franz. Absolutely incredible.

u/Useful_Lemon_ 22h ago
Franz torn rotator cuff?

2
u/Muted_Lead_1105 22h ago
I’m loving this squad a lot. Especially with how aggressive Paolo has been on offense. Franz being a facilitator. Bane sparkin 3’s. Da Silva being a major lift off the bench. And man SHOUTOUT VUCCI MANE!!! being aggressive the whole time. GO MAGIC LFG!!!!
3
u/MolloyAusDerEcke Stuff The Magic Dragon 22h ago
So Franz went back to the locker cooling his right arm/shoulder? 🫣
1
u/Chatterfang555 21h ago
This is not good. Penda, Richardson and now Franz all have some sort of minor injury 🤦🏻♂️😬
1
u/tmac2g17 Franz Wagner 22h ago
What happened to Jase?
4
u/Effective_Ad4606 Jalen Suggs 22h ago
Lower back soreness apparently, he was clutching it during the game while he was out there too

u/gorays45 Franz Wagner 22h ago

1
u/BadAtExisting Stuff The Magic Dragon 22h ago
So after this game can they let us into the Kia Center this weekend to sage the arena and locker room to get all the injury juju from the last 2 seasons out?
3
u/sitesuckslmao 22h ago
Missed the last couple of the 2nd until 5 left in the 3rd but I am happy with how Paolo has played these last two games. I still think he slows the offense down a little too much but tonight he's generated good looks for his teammates even though they weren't converting them in the 1st quarter

7
u/Tardypop1 Cole Anthony 22h ago
Wendell hate is so forced he’s funny af and plays good
6
u/Effective_Ad4606 Jalen Suggs 22h ago
Underrated and if he keeps up the availability like last season I think more people will come around on him too
3
u/NiffytheDeviser Tristan da Silva 22h ago
bashing him (and Suggs more recently) are just popular peanut gallery bandwagon topics. you'll get the oddball weirdo that, for some reason, brings up about the "mistake" that was the Desmond Bane trade. Lot of people just want to stir the pot and hunt for likes.
2
u/OrlandosVeryOwn OnlyFranz 22h ago
If Desmond Bane averages 10+ 3PAG we are a top 4 seed easily. I love Sweeney getting him the ball
2
u/itssexitime Paolo Banchero 5h ago
Its nice to see people finally understanding that 3PAG is such an important stat. I used to say this is why Gary Harris is not a needle moving SG, and constantly took heat. I don't care if someone shoots 40% from 3 if they only take 5 or less a game.
1
u/OrlandosVeryOwn OnlyFranz 4h ago
Last year we forced DB3 into too much on ball role. We need to be getting him in actions to generate threes. That is why we traded so much for him. Mose couldn’t do that, Sweeney has shown that as a priority. Going to be an exciting year
1
u/itssexitime Paolo Banchero 3h ago
Yes when Weltman traded for him and said he could play some PG I got concerned because he wasn’t being used in his optimal role. Last night was the perfect role for him. It’s just smart coaching.

loved that last touch pass from WCJ to Paolo. WCJ has more than solid chemistry with Franz, Paolo and Suggs at this point and has a keen eye with hitting them with solid passes to score.

The high volume is needed badly

I know Vuc is alegend... but are u having an eye on his defense? No way he is the starter in front of WCJ.
1
u/psiANID3 Franz Wagner 22h ago
Yes. Vuc was never known for defense. He’ll be a good bench spark, kinda like Moe was

Vuc is so much better than wcj.
2
u/TopConversation6017 22h ago
He will do great vs certain teams. Miami is one of them since they have the worst guards in the league. Elite pgs will make him pay on switches every time.
1
u/RoniSuave Jalen Suggs 22h ago
Wendell is also a good Giannis defender and your gonna want him out there vs Vooch when we play the heat healthy
1
u/Sea-Damage7251 21h ago
Yea agree, I'm not a fan of wcj but he does do well against bully type players. Guys like giannis/duren etc, wcj has a great combination of speed and strength to make life difficult against them. Same with bully type guards like Brunson.
I do wonder if the pro's outweigh the cons though. With the structure of our team, he really kills us on offense. Either takes up space in the lane doing nothing of note, or shoots sub 30% on very wide open threes. Selfishly speaking the lack of shotblocking makes us a bit less exciting too watch too.

It is scary how versatile we can be. P at the 5, VOOCH at the 5, dell at the 5, maybe JI at the 5

Never used an antenna in my life. Guess I gotta buy one and figure out how the hell it works if I wanna watch Magic games this year…
1
u/Tardypop1 Cole Anthony 23h ago
It was like 20 bucks and you just screw it in and scan for channels
1
u/whtge8 Paolo Banchero 22h ago
I don’t need a separate remote or anything? All I have is my Roku remote.
1
u/Tardypop1 Cole Anthony 22h ago
Nah I have Roku to. You can look it up online for the right setting but it’ takes like 5 minutes.
1
u/whtge8 Paolo Banchero 22h ago
Are you watching this game via the antenna? How’s it look and is there any lag or anything?
1
u/Tardypop1 Cole Anthony 22h ago
I’m getting a bit of static but i can probably mess around with the box and set it up right. It’s just chillin on the floor.
Quality is good no lag

Cain is making well. I am a fan

u/Tardypop1 Cole Anthony 23h ago
I’d say 50/50 great effort but gotta knock your free throws down and complete easy dunks. Nice corner 3 and great effort to make plays

Suggs aint doin shit but fouling out there. Needs to just be smarter

I hope Sweeney can find some way to rein him in this season. Someone needs to save him from himself

Paolo changed his release he moved his guide hand it looks like. He’s missing free throws and jumpers, hopefully it starts working when the games count

It is funny because the doomers are in FULL effect during a preseason game. 1st quarter of a game and shots aren’t falling on good looks, but offense looks fluid most of the time. Definitely an improvement

It's the same team as last year with all the same problems. I was thrilled when the Magic got a new head coach, because it at least gave us the opportunity to see what was on the coach and what was on the players. We can now see that distinction very clearly.

u/Equivalent_Round9353 23h ago
To all the Einsteins downvoting this comment, I've screen captured it and will be starting a thread midway through the season with this as the featured image. We'll see how well it holds up, and how well the downvotes hold up 😂

Jase isn't an NBA player I really don't know what people see in him
2
u/Equivalent_Round9353 23h ago
It's clear one thing hasn't changed from the past few seasons: the Magic can't shoot 3s. Not sure how a team can contend for anything if they can't drain the 3 consistently.

Pre season gonna be rough for a defensive team. Refs wanna keep it tame
1
u/Melodic-Lettuce-6869 Paolo Banchero 23h ago
Franz looking good offensively but has given up double digits already defensively
2
u/lemanruss4579 23h ago
We already know Franz is great defensively, doesn't really matter what happens in preseason.

u/IsGoIdMoney Anthony Black 23h ago
Do preseason games have less defense to avoid injury? Looked like there was a lot of scoring in the preseason games. I haven't watched the NBA preseason before.

Good ball movement , glad to see Paolo throw that grenade back to Jalen for a wide open 3. Feels like he would’ve took a middy last year

Really looking forward to tonight, I still have questions. I was disappointed with the game in Cleveland and all I saw was flaws. Tuesday night in Orlando was nothing but positives and I can see this team in the top 4 in the East. I think we are on to something and I want to believe, just not convinced yet.
1
u/P5Manchero 1d ago
The game in Cleveland was ugly as hell but I chalk it up to having none of our guards. It really unlocks Paolo especially to have ballhandlers who can get him the ball going downhill vs starting from a dead stop on the perimeter.
