Discussion I have to say, the more interviews Timothee Chalamet does. The more I’m questioning if his “acting” in Marty Supreme is really just him being himself.

Post image

You really feel that same level of arrogance from him that his character in this movie displays, and another pattern I’m noticing is the more successful he becomes in his craft the more it’s getting in his head.

I get that he is an actor with a goal that he’s made very clear that becoming an Oscar winner is something he’ll stop at nothing to achieve, but he’s not very humble about it.

Nothing is wrong with having a goal like that, but he’s setting a big example of what happens when fame gets in a person’s head.

I love it . He made a whole movie with the videos

26

u/ElmarSuperstar131 Mar 07 '26

The Weeknd actually has good potential as an actor, he needs to stop playing self insert roles.

21

u/CurrentRoster Mar 07 '26

he should only be doing small parts cuz his line delivery might not be fixable

30

u/WhichHoes Mar 07 '26

He needs help with the speaking parts of acting. From his music videos hes kinda solid on the non verbal, but yeah, he needs an actual character to play that isnt a version of him

8

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '26

I thought he did a solid job on Uncut gems, but I agree that the acting in his movie and Idol was not hahahahah

6

u/WhichHoes Mar 08 '26

Even in uncut gems it was eh vs everyone else lol. "Hey feel this, feel this" was okay in a creepy way, but once Sandler hits him, that shrieking "what the fuxk is this" cracks me up

2

u/Competitive-Meet-511 Mar 08 '26

Well that's more learnable than the non-verbal parts.

Remember when Emilia Perez existed? Yeah I feel like people secretly miss that and have invented something to complain about.

As someone who’s family has had a box at the Metropolitan Opera for generations, I was deeply offended by his comments. I was so upset, my monocle fell off my face and now I can’t find it.

Now where did my monocle go?

My local equestrian club is full every weekend, I have to book my time a few weeks in advance. Does that mean that every single person in my country owns a horse, likes horse riding, does it at least once a month and that it's as popular sport/activity as football or basketball are?

Or maybe, just maybe, it's a niche hobby that's still alive, but absolutely not as much as in past, mostly because people are not as interested as before and have other things they'd rather do?

one of the top comments on fauxmoi on a post about this was “all it took was a comment about about ballet for the world to turn against him” or something along those lines

18

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '26

That sub is the shittiest cesspit on Reddit.

10

u/joobleberry Mar 08 '26

they’re all saying they’re “celebrating his downfall” like be so for real

9

u/HoopistV Mar 08 '26 edited Mar 08 '26

It's genuinely hilarious to me. The irony is that whenever someone criticizes him for his "lack of being humble" or his "arrogance," they actually come off as being even more arrogant. It's like they see themselves on this moral high horse, where they are the judge of what is or isn't acceptable behavior.

How dare he express how much he believes in himself! How dare he demonstrate a genuine personality! How dare he be cocky! How dare he!!

In reality, those people actually need therapy. They can't stand seeing a confident, happy, successful individual because they themselves are likely miserable.

2

u/JeanVicquemare Mar 09 '26

What I've learned from this is that there are legions of people rooting for his downfall and just waiting for the chance to say "You know, I've never found his performance impressive.. then he said that ballet isn't a relevant art form anymore and I was vindicated.."

He seems like a pretty normal guy to me

5

u/Chungpels Mar 07 '26

Sean Penn has been convicted of assault multiple times and Reddit doesn’t care and roots for him to win. Timothee Chalamet says that no one cares about ballet and opera anymore and people act like he’s a sociopath. Get over yourself.

11

u/pbooths Mar 08 '26

It's been decades since Sean has beaten anyone up! That's why reddit doesn't care. 😆

12

u/FMTalks1792 Mar 08 '26

1987 was the last time Penn had an assault incident. 39 years ago. 😄

3

u/Stock-Mix-174 Mar 08 '26

err im pretty sure he punched a journalist in 2010.. so it's fairly recent i would say

2

u/FMTalks1792 Mar 08 '26

It doesnt come up in a search. But even if so, that was 16 years ago. I don't think most people think 16 years ago is "fairly recent" or care.

3

u/Stock-Mix-174 Mar 08 '26

idk what search you're using but there's literally a wiki section on his page abt his legal issues where he's been arrested for punching 5 different ppl, and that doesnt even include the highly public and rumored domestic ab*se he did to madonna (which she only denied to help him in a lawsuit 3 decades later)..

In May 2010, Penn pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge stemming from an altercation with photographer Frank Mateljan in October 2009.\122]) He was sentenced to perform 300 hours of community service and undergo 36 hours of anger management counseling.\1)\)

He's quite problematic but yea it's not that recent. He's still complaining abt being arrested for assault tho, comparing his arrest w will smith's slap and moaning its not fair - so dude's not rly owned up to his mistakes imo

10

u/neverOddOrEv_n Mar 07 '26

The majority of people especially young people do not even know about sean being an abuser, whereas timothees stuff has been happening in real time. Most importantly does the academy care about either of these things? Probably not lol

20

u/HotPassenger4598 Mar 07 '26

Seriously. Homie is spitting truths that people don’t like.

3

u/taralundrigan Mar 08 '26

Its actually ridiculous. Not to mention, Timmys family is literally apart of thr ballet. He probably could have worded things better, but he isn't wrong. No one actually gives a fuck about the arts anymore, its important to protect and support it.

2

u/ChartInFurch Mar 08 '26

His family is separate from the ballet?

11

u/Stank-Hole Mar 07 '26

I'm convinced all the people hating on him haven't actually watched any of his interviews.

I've probably watched 90% of them over the past 8 years and he is legitimately a very articulate, intelligent person who is not unlikable

4

u/Competitive-Meet-511 Mar 08 '26

Can you recommend some? I'd love to see that articulate side but he does seem to have a pattern where he makes a very insightful statement with insane depth and then can't flesh it out on the spot.

7

u/Rodney_u_plonker Mar 07 '26

Some people don't like they tricked themselves into imagining he was an arty little elf boy when he's a dude bro hypebeast

That's a worse crime than actual assault to many people depending on how online they are

3

u/Environmental_Arm778 Mar 07 '26

A dude bro hypebeast?

I’m sorry what?

4

u/Appropriate-Talk4266 Mar 08 '26

These people have brain worms. Just ignore them

They cannot conceptualize any amount of nuance in other people. It's either artsy elf boy or MAGA fuckboy dude bro hypebeast.

Anything beyond a stereotype just breaks their mind. They cannot understand that a guy can be both an artist and serious about movies, but also not necessarily vibe with fucking ballet and opera somehow.

It's all or nothing. You're either full 100% artsy boy who loves and support and consume all niche art or you're a chud who plays videogames and likes football.

Nevermind that, btw, these people only virtue signal their artsy side, but I can assure you 99% never even went to see a ballet and are for sure not regular patrons.

He had this mystique going but it turns out the more he talks the dumber he sounds. That’s about it really. His crime is not being mysterious anymore.

9

u/enceinte-uno Mar 08 '26

I agree. I think because he did a few “sensitive, old soul, artistic, deep” roles early in his career (Little Women, Beautiful Boy, Lady Bird, CMBYN), people were also expecting him to be a sensitive artistic indie type irl, when really he’s just a regular dude who would jump at the chance to date a Kardashian. And some people take that personally lol

3

u/ChartInFurch Mar 08 '26

he’s just a regular dude who would jump at the chance to date a Kardashian

This makes some people absolutely insane and it's crazy to witness! And the youngest BA winner jumped at the opportunity to stick his tongue down Halle Berry's throat as well. At least Chalamet has consent.

16

Me too man, unfortunately subs like Fauxmoi have no other goal but dig up any all instances of this guy being less than perfect, so we have to hear about this shit constantly. I dont personally think he's insufferable, I do think he says some silly stuff sometimes but nothing so far that makes me think he's some terrible guy.

5

u/ModelMancer Mar 08 '26

They built him up to be some graceful, genius savant for some reason. Maybe it’s the same. If his name was Tom Campbell maybe he wouldn’t have got that reputation. Kinda get it though, when he was just starting to get to household name status i’d of got Art School, cigarette + coffee + 1960’s greek cinema enthusiast, always wears a turtleneck and glasses even though he doesn’t need them vibe. I guess it broke their hearts that he’s just a kinda-nerdy chud.

He just seems like a normal dude tbh. I don’t think he was playing himself in Marty Supreme, think he was playing himself in Don’t Look Up.

This story is a PRIME example of how malleable all the fucking dopes are to agents of chaos on the Internet. A clip that came out months ago, carefully edited to eliminate context, has taken a poorly phrased but ultimately true point someone was trying to make and twisted into malice. And you all ate it right up.

If you got “offended” by this you’re either a sanctimonious douche or a duckling chasing other duckings over the waterfall.

It’s insane. part of why Mikey won last year is because her character and personality while campaigning were such polar opposites. It highlighted her talent. Whatever Timothee is doing, by blending his on and off screen personas, has been undermining it.

I wouldn’t call it inevitable, but people are putting way too much weight on the SAG and BAFTA losses, especially since the BAFTA winner isn’t a nominee. Michael B Jordan just showed that Best Actor is competitive, not that the show’s over for Chalamet. Since his stupid comments went viral after voting ended, it can’t hurt him as far as this year’s Oscar’s goes. All that being said those anonymous academy voter polls indicate support for Jordan, so we’ll have to see.

12

u/the_Tannehill_list Mar 07 '26

SAG was long predicted as Sinners' big night to shine too. I wouldn't be surprised if the Oscars winners are all the original favorites from January

2

u/SaneMadHatter Mar 07 '26

For ensemble, SInners was predicted, but not Actor.

And that was the early sentiment. The day before SAG, most were predicting OBAA to win ensemble.

6

u/reginaldjaynes Mar 07 '26

The video was posted days before, and only went viral the day voting ended.

4

u/heartlessloft Mar 07 '26

Inevitably is questionable I would say him and Michael B Jordan are neck and neck.

7

u/Minute_Conflict_2037 Mar 07 '26

He is gonna lose. Oscars loves to give Oscar to old guys rather than young. They dragged Leo so long for it…. It is either Leo or Ethan that’s taking Oscar this year.

My 2 cents.. lol. I’m ambivalent about him. I’ve seen him in some things and have enjoyed his work. I’m neither wild about him nor do I dislike him. Honestly he doesn’t mean enough to me, nor does any actor, to affect my life. But since there’s this tempest in a tea cup going on I’ll say this, I believe it’s a generational situation. Opera and ballet aren’t as well attended by his generation as previous generations. I think he believes what he said and didn’t say it to cause awards controversy. Speculation? Could this wave of dislike be residual dislike of his current girlfriend? Guilt by association if you will.

Why is everything recently focused on this guy? If it wasn't so negative, I would have thought that he hired people to flood the internet with all these posts.

This may be the cattiest Oscar season since Davis and Crawford. It’s embarrassing how much people still give a shit about this nonsense.

2

u/DiceloConejo Mar 07 '26

This is my first time really following along with the awards season and race. Is it always this toxic?

No doubt he is a Great actor, he might win but the movie is bad.

2

u/bonivermakesmecry Mar 08 '26

Dude is overrated as hell, wake up people

2

u/BarbaraStreusand Mar 08 '26

I hope so, i fcking loved the character and everything i have seen so far of him. The best thing is that he triggers all of you, i love this so much

2

u/Mananni Mar 08 '26

In the early days I’d honestly thought him deep and well-read but I think now he’s turning out to be as uncultured as so many others and that’s disappointed us I suppose.

I can’t shake this interview when he was asked what he reads and he keeps going along the lines of “I read a lot of different things” - which is cringy cos it’s painfully obvious the last thing he read in the last decade were the instructions on his curling cream. (Well and quite a few film scripts of which to be fair he’s made good work)

And he says things stupid sixteen years olds say when they’re unfiltered and not things classy people say when they first of all have class, a degree of knowledge and enough wits not to fuck themselves up when they open their mouth. I mean do his PR people not train him????

2

u/Organic-Milk3146 Mar 10 '26

I cannot imagine giving a shit about this stuff

2

u/luukse Mar 11 '26

He doesn't drop the act until the DVD commentary.

5

u/AstroBtz Mar 07 '26 edited Mar 09 '26

That's nice.

Move on. It really isn't that deep of an issue. It sucks but the world will keep turning. And the opera and ballet will not go anywhere.

4

u/Old_Tangelo_3828 Mar 07 '26

Please just stop.

4

u/Prior_Chemist_5026 Mar 07 '26

There are more important things to astroturf guys...

6

u/theoriginalelmo Mar 07 '26

Why do people get so defensive about Timothee? The guy is an arrogant nepo baby and he is a good actor, both can happen.

Can he still win the Oscar? Yes, he is still the favorite in my opinion.

Can h also come off as a jerk? Yes

The hate for Chalamet on Reddit will always fascinate me.

3

u/failedsynopsis Mar 07 '26

The hate is real. Buddy can’t express an opinion and people be lining up to crucify him.

3

u/Thin-Ad-4356 Mar 08 '26

Just read this morning I believe on Reddit that he has a personal chef with him on movie sets, and the chef prepares three different breakfasts daily of which chalamet choosing one and having the other two thrown out. Entitled asshole?

4

u/Ok_Vast3534 Mar 07 '26

Oh my god I was pretty indifferent to him winning (though I thought his performance in Marty supreme was great) but now I’m genuinely rooting for him because this is insufferable 🙄🙄🙄

2

u/SeaSmoke838 Mar 07 '26

People are doing too much. This discourse is becoming silly

2

u/MonthForeign4301 Mar 07 '26

Jeez, that Jack Nicholson guy really does seem to play Jack Nicholson in every movie he’s in

2

u/Commercial-Cut-111 Mar 07 '26 edited Mar 07 '26

I’be never been to the opera. Closest thing I’ve come is watching Gary Marshall’s depiction of one in Pretty Woman. I didn’t even watch the 2004 film Phantom of the Opera but see it came in 9th at the box office. And I’m willing to bet most of the people complaining about TCs comments have never been to the opera either but are frantically typing about how offended they are at this very moment.

2

u/Rigamortus2005 Mar 07 '26

He's the goat

2

u/OrinocoHaram Mar 07 '26

Timmy is an actor that is a) a little overexuberant in his press tours b) oversaturated right now, because he's a good actor and he's handsome so he's in everything. Therefore there is a backlash of people finding him annoying.

If you see some of the comedy things he's done recently it seems like he doesn't take himself too seriously and likes to play up to whatever character he's doing at that time.

Also, if you watch Dune or CMBYN or A Complete Unknown or fucking Wonka it's clear that he has at least a bit of range. I like the guy, i don't love him, but give him some credit

2

u/Dusty_Negatives Mar 08 '26

At this point I want him to win just to watch all the man babies fucking melt down. Good god.

2

u/swampgasorr Mar 08 '26

Wow the hate brigade is out in full force for Chalamet
