Medication my metoprolol gave me a heart rate of 45 while sleeping
My first time ever taking metoprolol last night before bed and within thirty minutes my heart rate started mellowing out like crazy. I was really nervous about bradycardia so I woke up every couple hours out of nervousness and would check and it would always be 50-45. i’ve NEVER ever seen my heart rate that low in my life 😭. I mean sometimes my watch has caught my hr around 57 when i’m sleeping at the lowest but wow i didn’t expect it work that quick. and I would stand up and usually my hr would skyrocket to 130-140 but it stayed around 100. whaaaat! modern medicine ammiright

Mine reached 35 on ivabradine and my doctor was like "it's fine don't look at the numbers"... I was always waking up exhausted and with a headache

This is what happens when you take heart medication (when you don’t have a heart condition), unless you are experiencing symptoms during the low HRs, doctors are usually completely happy with continuing the medication.
If you were experiencing brachy rates when you were not on heart medication then that COULD be an indicator of further issues that’s why it seems so scary. As far as we’re concerned the medication is working as intended :)

My resting HR is usually 55-60 on POTS meds, sometimes it dips into the 40s. It's only an issue if it makes you symptomatic.

This is likely completely safe. Drs likely don’t GAS unless it drops into the 30s; even then some don’t worry as it’s largely about how you feel on heart lowering drugs. My HR drops into the 50s sometimes (lying down) on pots meds. I’d only worry if it went below 50 awake and below 40 asleep.

I got down to 34. While I do have spikes in hr over 120, I also naturally go as low as 55-60 bpm so I was questionable on taking it in the first place.

Mine does this on propranolol. My cardiologist says as long as I stand up and it goes above 65 before I take it, I’m fine. It usually goes as low as 41

What dosage are you on?

Metoprolol was my first beta blocker and it didn’t help me. Then I went to propranolol. I’m currently on 30mg in the morning, 20mg at night and an additional 10mg 2x through the night if I have adrenaline surges.

What's your normal overnight heart rate?
When I first started midodrine my overnight went from averaging around 75 to about 50. It evened out now at about 65.
My doctor wasn't super concerned unless it went below 40. But I did not like the idea of being consistently below 50.

I take my metoprolol as soon as I get up in the morning. I see how my HR is doing first, and then take just enough to to get me through the day. My HR is always a lot lower in the evening and night. If I just take a set amt it in the morning without checking, it's probably is going to be a bit too low for my liking at night. I take extended metoprolol.

I have a Wenckebach heart block so my heart rate gets down to 15 at night. Really trips me out seeing it that low but I have no symptoms. Cardiologist is not concerned. Only if I was experiencing symptoms while awake. I am worried that if I have to take any medications such as a beta blocker, I might have problems.

This is not abnormal. Have you ever worn a holter monitor when you weren't on medication? That how I find out what my showing hr was and was shocked given my awake hr was often above 90 bpm. Normal sleeping hr is often between 40-60bpm. You're fine but call your MD if you're still concerned.

In the 40s is perfectly okay while sleeping. Mine is typically in 34-45 range during sleep, and 50-67 during wake (I have bradycardia). But cardiologist aren’t usually concerned unless there are other factors and it’s a bit lower than that.

My HR hits 40-45 without meds while sleeping. It makes sense that you're nervous, but I think you can let that go. I was nervous taking propranolol at first, so I can relate. It impacts my sleep (though my cardiologist assures me it cannot), so I only take propranolol during the day.

Unless symptomatic we don't usually worry about occasional Brady in 40's overnight

Mine occasionally drops below 40 during sleep. Just about 10-15 minutes at a time, which is enough to alert my Apple Watch. Apparently it’s nothing to worry about:)

A hr of 45-50 while you’re asleep is not concerning - your heart rate, blood pressure and temp naturally drop once you’re asleep so your body can rest.

I’m regularly around 90-120. Even with Midodrine, which obviously you can’t sleep until it wears off in 4 hours. Usually at night my rate is around 80 to 90, but once in awhile it will be in the low 60s - upper 50s range. I have a pacemaker set to pace if my heart rate drops below 50 because when I faint, my heart rate drops and then stops. When it kicks in my chambers start to beat out of rhythm which feels weird as hell and will wake me out of a dead sleep. I have hyperPOTS and I think the nights it gets low are after my adrenaline has been heightened for so long that my body just crashes and I go into a dissociative state.

Mine reaches 45 even without beta blockers :')
