Medication Midodrine help: 134/96 blood pressure starting the meds

For anyone on Midodrine, is this normal? I know it raises your blood pressure, but why it so high. I’m also more lightheaded and nauseous on it. I’m confused why my doc prescribed me this when I already have high blood pressure after standing. I get “grey-outs” when I stand up from laying down and than my blood pressure raises to around 135. How does this medication work?

Your doctor probably noticed blood pooling, especially if you were experiencing lightheadedness and dizziness. That’s likely why they prescribed midodrine as a trial to see if it helps. Midodrine isn’t prescribed solely for low blood pressure; it can also help reduce blood pooling by constricting blood vessels. It may even benefit some people with hyperadrenergic POTS, although it needs to be used cautiously because it can raise blood pressure

I actually never experience lightheadedness or dizziness on the regular, but I can’t see for a few seconds when I stand up from lying down. I do have blood-pooling so that makes sense.
