How was the internet connection in Palau?

Hi. I'm moving to Palau in a couple of days for work and I was just wondering how was the internet situation there? I googled to get some ideas about the speed and costs and what I always read is that the internet connection in Palau is slow. I am planning to bring my PS5 ang gaming laptop so I can still do gaming stuff. I am wondering if I can download games and still play online games seamlessly while staying there. Thank you in advance to those who can answer. Such big help.

From what I've experienced, you won't be able to play games "seamlessly". Internet here is slow and downloading games on other devices that isn't a phone could take a while, I tried downloading a game on my laptop and in a day it only got a quarter of the way done. Make sure everything is updated before coming out here. I'm sure others can explain it better than I can but I'm only speaking from my experience. I hope this helps.

I see. I guess I have to pre-download games before I leave like what you've said. Thank you so much.

No problem, if you need any other information, I can try to help and answer with what I've experienced.

Totally fine. I have a PS5 and download games overnight.

You will lag a little, but I was able to play online with people. Ping is not great but doable.

If you get homenet from PNCC, opt for the 100 dollar always on plan. They give you 20 mbs download. If you get thr cheaper ones you are looted to 5mbps for thr lowest tier and 10 mbps for 30 a month. Or smuggle in a Starlink mini, buy unlimited roaming. I game fine with homenet connection from pncc.

Will Starlink work if a Mini or dish was able to get into Palau? I heard it was banned. I was thinking of bringing my Mini for my trip there in October. But I’d assume PPR has decent wifi.

Does incoming immigration or customs check your bags for that stuff?

20mbps for a $100 oh my. Do you think that I can play online games with a 10mbps download speed with a lan cable connection? I'm fine with not playing online games for awhile if the connection is not good, but with GTA VI coming in November, I'm wondering if I can download the game on the PS5 with 10-20mbps internet speed. Thank you though for your response

Depends on the internet you pay for. I get 40mbps down and 10mbps up and can download games and play online simultaneously. But there are plans for 10mbps down that is more common. But it also depends what games you play. you'll mostly be playing with asia or us west coast. Ping wise you're looking at 50-100 in japan/Asia and 100-200 for US west coast. I've played apex, cod, Street fighter and Marvel tokon and the 10mbps plan does the job for all of them.

Where is the info on the 40mbps down plan? I only see 20mbps online.

Speed Test

Im subscribed to the 20 mbps plan and these are the speeds I get. I know others with the same speeds on this plan. For context I stay in ngebudel airai and the others live in ngermid. Could be specific to those areas tho

I also play APEX and COD. But, I am more concerned with downloading a full digital game on my PS5. I may try to get the 40mbps down and 10mbps I hope it's not that pricey. Thank you though

Internet at hotel is awful. I could not get esim actually, so tried to use hotel internet, also free wifi at WCTC Shopping Center, it was better than at hotel.

don't, i live here and i play games and its such a big pain, download speed are at 10mbps if you are lucky and no one's on the wifi, and your lowest ping would be Japan servers at 80ms, all i can say is Goodluck! because it's a big adjustment if you are used to low latency and stable connection🥹

places away from Koror internet can be poor. Even if wire line to a router. PNCC claims distance problem. So why can't they just FIX IT ??? This is the reason some want Starlink. Competition is a good thing.

Agreed compettiion is good. But look at PNCC speeds. Everyone will switch to Starlink. PNCC will never let that happen, not a million years lol
